Chapter Thirteen: The Ring

Three days later, a letter was delivered to the manor.

Jack opened the envelope and read its contents to Wu Yu.

"Black Cloud Mountain Stronghold has a total of 88 members. The stronghold leader is a fifth-level warrior. Under him are one fourth-level mage, six third-level professionals, twenty low-level professionals, and sixty ordinary people. There are many traps and seven sentry posts on Black Cloud Mountain. The coordinates have been marked on the map."

"Very good, everything is ready. Wu Yu, pass on the message that we'll set off after lunch." Jack put away the letter and instructed Wu Yu beside him.

"So urgent? And we only have fourteen people. Are you sure you don't need to make more preparations? I think it would be good if you went to the Adventurers' Guild to post a quest and recruit some more helpers." Wu Yu didn't set off immediately, but instead offered his opinion.

"I don't want outsiders to know about what happened between me and Croton. After all, not everyone will understand the good intentions of others, so I have to handle it myself."

"Alright, but don't push yourself too hard." Knowing that further discussion was pointless, Wu Yu had no choice but to obey Jack's orders and ran to the guards' resting area.

In a small open space in the eastern part of the manor, there are various training equipment, where the guards usually train.

When Wu Yu walked over, they all put away their weapons, found a spot, and stood there quietly, looking like they were watching a show.

"Hey, isn't this our team leader with connections? What brings you here today? Want to practice your skills?" Kevin said sarcastically as soon as he saw Wu Yu, his intentions clear.

In a sense, Wu Yu can really be considered a good person. As long as you can find a reason for your behavior, Wu Yu will understand. Although whether he forgives you or not is another matter, Wu Yu at least tried to reconcile in the beginning, didn't he?

For example, right now, Wu Yu was completely unfazed by Kevin's provocation. After letting Kevin's words go in one ear and out the other, Wu Yu cleared his throat and said, "Jack has ordered you to pack your things. There's an operation this afternoon."

Wu Yu's words had no deterrent effect whatsoever, and the group of guys remained unmoved.

"You remember my name is Wu Yu, right? I've been asking around these past few days, and it seems you don't even have any fighting spirit. Even if Jack wanted to suppress me, he wouldn't use a piece of trash like you. With your meager skills, let alone me, even my brothers wouldn't submit to you," Kevin continued to mock.

"Sigh." Wu Yu felt a little tired. It wasn't because the team was hard to manage, but because he felt that if he didn't cooperate with Kevin, it would be a disservice to Kevin's clumsy performance.

"Don't worry, I won't fight you," Wu Yu said weakly.

"If you really don't like me, then just come and beat me up. I definitely won't fight back. But if you're thinking of provoking me so you can just defend and counterattack, then save your breath. That kind of tactic is too petty. Even if you drive me away, Jack can just find someone else to replace me. So there's really no need for us to be so hostile."

"Hmph." Kevin knew it was hopeless as soon as he saw Wu Yu's indifferent expression, but he didn't give Wu Yu a friendly look either.

"Forget it, I doubt you'd listen to me anyway, so I won't embarrass you. Just pack up yourselves. You'll definitely obey Jack's orders." Wu Yu wasn't interested in trying to curry favor with someone who wouldn't listen. After giving his final instructions, he left.

When Wu Yu returned to the dining room, Jack was just pushing Violet over. After helping Violet to her seat, he went to the head seat himself.

Wu Yu sat down next to Violet and, before the meal started, instructed her, "Jack, I've already given the orders, but those people are a bit resentful of me. You'll have to lead the team yourself from now on."

“It’s to be expected. It would be abnormal if they all listened to you.” Jack didn’t seem to care much about it.

"Brother, what are you going to do?" Violet noticed something was off about the conversation, so she picked up the glass plate and interrupted.

Upon seeing this, Jack stood up again, went behind Violet, patted her head, and reassured her, "Don't worry, we're just going to catch a bad guy. Just like before, justice will definitely prevail."

“Yes, brother is the best.” Violet wrote on the glass with an admiring look on her face.

"Also, brother, you must tell me about your experiences over the past six months when you come back. You haven't come to keep me company these past few nights."

The younger sister was being affectionate with her older brother; it was such a heartwarming scene! Wu Yu looked at the brother and sister with a touch of envy.

"I know, I'll spend a lot of time with you when I get back this time," Jack promised.

Then Jack took out a silver ring from his storage ring, took Violet's small left hand, and put it on her middle finger.

Jack said in a very serious tone, "You must keep this ring safe. It is a rare spatial magic device. There are two in total. As long as one of you activates it, the positions of the two people can be switched. The other one is in my hands. If you encounter any danger at home, then activate it."

"Then what about you, brother?" Violet asked anxiously.

"Don't worry, I'm the most powerful man in Green Town. No one here can threaten me," Jack said confidently.

“Yes, brother is the best.” Violet seemed to have a blind confidence in Jack.
