Chapter Three: Finding People

"It's truly a case of heaven being jealous of talent; how could someone like Jack die so young?"

The slightly overweight man sighed beside Wu Yu, clearly indicating that Jack's death had been a great blow to him.

"But why are you following us?" Wu Yu said with a hint of disdain.

Just now, Wu Yu and the others waited outside until the man calmed down before leaving. But who knew that the man would follow them up so eagerly and even pretend to be very familiar with them, chatting with Wu Yu.

"Now that Miss Violet has come to the capital, how could I not extend my hospitality? Don't worry, Eugene will cover all your expenses for the next few days, and I guarantee you'll eat and drink well," Eugene assured him confidently.

"Jack is dead, why are you still helping us? You don't have any bad intentions, do you?" Wu Yu looked at Eugene warily, after all, Eugene's actions when he first appeared had left a bad impression on Wu Yu.

“How could that be!” Eugene quickly defended himself. “What kind of relationship do I have with Jack? My things are his things. Not to mention entertaining you for a few days, I can give Miss Violet anything she asks for.”

"Really?" Wu Yu wasn't sure.

“Of course, and Jack must have arranged for you to come to the Dragon Merchant Guild, that shows how much he trusts me,” Eugene nodded vigorously.

"Um, Jack actually sent us to find your sister." As Wu Yu said this, he felt a little cruel.

Eugene, however, was as if he had been stabbed hard with a knife. He clutched his chest in grief and said in disbelief, "How could this be? Has he forgotten the friendship we shared for three days and three nights, discussing whose sister was cuter?"

"Is that so?" Wu Yu exclaimed in surprise.

"Although he only used nodding and shaking his head throughout the entire event, the intensity of it was absolutely unprecedented in your life. Along the way, we also ate at all the famous restaurants in the capital and visited all the unique attractions. Even a year later, I still remember those days vividly," Eugene said nostalgically.

"You've probably been taken advantage of, haven't you?" Wu Yu was deeply suspicious of this.

"No, that's not right," Eugene suddenly exclaimed.

“Jack must have known that you wouldn’t find me if you came to the Dragon Merchant Guild, so he sent you to find my sister. See, even though it’s a roundabout way, Jack has achieved his goal. I knew Jack hadn’t forgotten me.”

Hey, hey, hey, that's a bit too much of a stretch with your wild imagination. If Jack really remembers you, why doesn't he tell us your name? But Wu Yu could only gently remind him, "Since we can't find you, how come you're at the Dragon Merchant?"

"The Dragon Merchant Guild is my family's business, is there any problem with me showing up there?" Eugene said smugly at first, but quickly became dejected.

"But I'm currently under economic sanctions, and I only have 100 gold coins as pocket money each month, so my friend, please don't ask for too much later. It would be awkward if I couldn't afford it."

Haha, is this the mindset of the rich? You can't even complain about being poor with a hundred gold coins. But for your generosity, I, Wu Yu, will swallow this lemon.

"So, Eugene, you're really going to help us?"

"Of course, feel free to ask if you have any difficulties. There's really not much that Eugene can't handle in the capital," Eugene assured him, patting his chest.

"Thank you so much." Wu Yu didn't stand on ceremony. He wouldn't pass up such a freebie. "To be honest, Violet and I are new to the capital and don't know anyone here. We don't have a place to stay yet. I wonder if you could find us a place to stay?"

“You can stay at my place!” Eugene’s eyes lit up, but Violet showed obvious resistance, so he had to change his mind and say, “I have another property in the southern part of the capital, which is usually empty. If you’d like, you can tidy it up and move in right away. I won’t charge you rent, and you can stay as long as you want.”

"What are the specifications?" Upon hearing that it was free, Wu Yu was already somewhat tempted.

"It's alright, three bedrooms and a living room with a back garden. It's not really suitable for hosting parties. I usually invite my friends there for afternoon tea. After all, Yi'er always says that I associate with a bunch of shady friends, which is an eyesore," Eugene replied after thinking for a moment.

"Deal." Wu Yu agreed immediately. It was indeed not as grand as Violet's castle, but it was just right for Wu Yu, who had lived in a suite since childhood.

"Wu Yu, did my brother say that this person would receive us?" Violet asked with some concern.

"Relax," Wu Yu reassured him. "I think this person has delicate features and a kind face. He must be a good person. Since he's invited us like this, how can we refuse?"

“But…” Violet wanted to say something, but Wu Yu had already left with his arm around Eugene’s shoulder.

······

"This place is really nice." Wu Yu lay down on the big bed and couldn't help but make a sound of enjoyment. The past two months of living in the open had exhausted him.

This detached bungalow was even better than Wu Yu had expected, with luxurious decorations, ready to move in, complete with pots, pans, and utensils.

What pleased Wu Yu the most was that each room was equipped with magical lamps, finally freeing him from the primitive life of using kerosene lamps.

Even Violet, who had been looking resentful, looked much better after going inside to sightsee.

"How is it? Satisfied?" Eugene asked casually, leaning against the wall and twirling the key in his hand.
