Chapter 119 Zombie Siege (12) - Encountering a Trap
These are all feelings they've gleaned from their previous experience killing zombies; there's no actual evidence, and they all hope it's just their imagination.
Ning Shu wanted to confirm, so while keeping an eye on the surroundings, she asked Cheng Chuan, "Don't you think the zombies' health bars are thicker than before?"
Upon hearing her words, Cheng Chuan's heart sank. It seemed that it wasn't just his imagination: "Yes, the situation is not good. We may have missed the best opportunity to do Mission 2."
Because if the zombies keep getting stronger over time, then they are very likely to be unable to complete Mission 2.
If that's the case, they might be forced to do Task 3.
He finally understood why, at the very beginning of the dungeon, some players were creating zombies and then killing them; it was probably done by players who repeatedly came to run the dungeon.
They knew how difficult the zombies would be to kill later on, so they prioritized mission 2. If his guess was right, then mission 3 would definitely not be easy to complete.
Can a quest that players who are replaying a dungeon be considered an easy quest?
Cheng Chuan told Ning Shu his guess, and Ning Shu felt like she was about to choke on her own blood after hearing it.
So they're the only ones diligently doing the tasks while everyone else is rushing ahead, right?
Seeing Ning Shu's disgusted expression, Cheng Chuan understood her feelings and advised, "It's too late to think about it now. Just focus on the mission."
Although Ning Shu agreed, he was thinking to himself that the easiest of the three tasks was Task 1, but it was also the most time-consuming. They really were three pigs!
Cheng Chuan didn't want to waste time here, so he specifically found a map of the mall.
Navigation maps are usually located next to elevators or escalators, roughly indicating their current location and what shops are on each floor.
This shopping mall has five floors. The first floor is mostly filled with luxury stores such as cosmetics and bags. The second floor is for clothing stores and training institutions. The floors above the third floor are mainly restaurants.
Their destination was the food court, which is usually located on the upper floors of the mall. After deciding where they wanted to go, they prepared to go up the escalator that had stopped running.
They made it through the first two floors without any problems, but as soon as they reached the third floor, they heard a roar and a group of zombies suddenly appeared and rushed towards them.
The moment the zombies appeared, they heard footsteps moving away from another direction. Ning Shu glanced over and saw several people moving away from them.
Someone's here! Ning Shu was overjoyed and became even more enthusiastic about killing zombies. She wanted to catch up with those people as soon as possible and take them away.
After they finished killing the zombies, they chased after the direction from which the footsteps had left, but found no one there.
Ning Shu frowned: "Strange, where did they go?"
Cheng Chuan: "Maybe they're hiding. Let's look around."
As soon as they finished speaking, they heard something tapping on the glass, and the sound lasted for quite a while.
The two exchanged a glance, and their first thought was of zombies.
However, the sound was very rhythmic, and zombies didn't seem to have the mindset to make such noises, so it was most likely a human making the noise.
Ning Shu lowered her voice to a whisper: "Should we go take a look?"
Cheng Chuan nodded: "Go."
They followed the sound and, when they shone their flashlights on the glass from which the sound was coming, discovered that it was a steel pipe that was being struck.
Ning Shu immediately shone the light source towards the other end of the steel pipe, but the steel pipe suddenly retracted, and then he heard footsteps leaving.
Ning Shu was somewhat confused when she heard a crisp "click" sound from the other side, which seemed to be the sound of the door lock being opened, followed by a roar.
She instinctively moved the light source toward the sound, and lo and behold, a group of zombies charged toward them.
Because they were too close, using "Sky-Splitting Kill" wouldn't be worthwhile, so Ning Shu directly transformed into a sandstorm and "crushed" them.
What Cheng Chuan saw was a sandstorm, wrapped in a beam of light, spinning continuously, with severed limbs constantly being flung out of the sandstorm.
So this is how he usually uses his talent skill to kill enemies? To be honest, he looks kind of cool.
Cheng Chuan stared wide-eyed at the scene before him. This was the first time he had seen his own skills from his own perspective, and he felt rather cool.
There were about a dozen zombies that rushed out this time, which Ning Shu quickly dealt with. After stopping, she felt that she had exhausted more energy than she had expected.
Outsiders thought she was quick, accurate, and ruthless, but only she knew that these zombies were still quite difficult to kill.
Ning Shu took a couple of breaths, looked in the direction the person had left, and said with a hint of malice, "It seems like we're being targeted."
After what just happened, the two of them understood perfectly well that someone had deliberately lured them here to deal with the zombies.
But they didn't understand why, these zombies seemed to have been trapped somewhere before.
The fact that those people went to such lengths to release the zombies suggests they were trying to deal with them.
Cheng Chuan: "Should we go after them and take a look?"
Ning Shu paused for a moment, then said, "Why don't we go check out where the zombies were before?"
She instinctively felt this was a ploy to lure the tiger away from the mountain.
They are newcomers and haven't encountered any other players recently, so they haven't offended anyone. Therefore, the problem is most likely related to zombies.
Cheng Chuan didn't quite understand, but he respected Ning Shu's wishes.
The two searched in the direction where they had heard the "click" sound and found a locked store called "XX Noodle Shop".
This shop is quite large, and there are two smaller shops next to it, whose doors are unlocked.
Ning Shu and Cheng Chuan looked at the three shops that had been the source of the sound, and concluded that this must be the place.
The restaurants in the mall have glass doors and walls, which basically only serve as a partition and do not aim to protect privacy.
The noodle shop was locked from the inside. This shop was very strange. Its door was locked, but there was a lot of bloodstains on the glass door. The tables and chairs inside were either scattered or overturned.
This indicates that the store was previously harassed by zombies, and the fact that it was locked suggests that someone was inside.
Did someone drive the zombies out and then hide inside? If so, how is that related to their earlier encounter?
Ning Shu and Cheng Chuan exchanged a glance. Ning Shu nodded to Cheng Chuan, who then stepped forward and knocked on the glass: "Is anyone inside?"
There was no response. Cheng Chuan knocked on the glass again, but still no response.
Ning Shu: "Since there's no one here, let's go look somewhere else."
She gestured with her eyes for Cheng Chuan and the others to leave first. Cheng Chuan immediately understood her meaning, and the two of them walked in the direction the man with the steel pipe had left.
It was a passageway connecting to the other half of the mall. After walking through it, Ning Shu realized that the corridor on the left seemed to be behind the store they had just visited.
