The Lin couple, who shared the same idea, were also chatting and laughing with some villagers from Taojia Village, watching their busy grandson and granddaughter-in-law, son and daughter-in-law with smiles.

The more I look at it, the happier I become; the more I look at it, the more blissful I feel.

People say that the educated youth sent to the countryside harmed many people, but the couple is very grateful for this opportunity, as it allowed their son to meet such an excellent daughter-in-law. She is not only capable but also talented, and she not only led the Lin family to its current status but also gave them such an outstanding grandson.

Now that they can see their grandson get married, they are content with their lives.

After An'an got married, Zhao Huanhuan accompanied Lin Yuan to work in Kyoto.

The four elderly people said they had seen everything in Kyoto and didn't want to go back. They felt that Harajo, where they were used to living, was better and they wanted to stay and keep their grandson and granddaughter-in-law company.

Lin Yuan and Zhao Huanhuan had no choice but to comply, arranging for a housekeeper to cook and clean for them, and asking An'an and Ding Yue to pay more attention to the four elderly people.

After Lin Yuan went to work, she would go to her own store, check out the counters, and go shopping to find inspiration. Then she would go back and continue drawing.

If she has a good design, she will chat with An'an on QQ and send him pictures or fax them to him so he can print them out and show them to the product department. If they think the design is acceptable, they will start making a pattern and samples, and then decide which stores will receive the samples.

After An'an got married, besides picking up and dropping off his wife and spending time with his four elders, he focused on working at the company, thinking about how to improve the company's performance and expand the company.

Five more years passed in the midst of this busy family life.

During the 2008 New Year, the family had a happy reunion and celebrated the New Year joyfully. On the first day of the first lunar month, they received good news: Ding Yue was pregnant.

The young couple stopped using contraception two months before the Lunar New Year. Ding Yue would be thirty years old during the New Year, and An An would be thirty-five, so the couple decided to have a child.

Fortunately, everything went as planned, and the baby arrived.

The family was overjoyed and began busily preparing for the arrival of the child.

They found out the pregnancy themselves using a pregnancy test. The young couple was happy and decided to go to the hospital for a thorough check-up and an ultrasound a few days later, once the hospital reopened, to make sure there were no problems.

An'an asked Ding Yue if he should call his father-in-law's family to tell them, since the two elders there had been urging them to have a child several times a year for the past few years.

Ding Yue said he would tell them when he went tomorrow.

An'an smiled and let her be.

"Then what about your work? Should you take leave and wait until after you give birth, or should you continue working?" An'an was worried that working while pregnant would be too tiring for her.

Ding Yue said she would take a leave of absence once her belly got bigger.

An'an agreed and let her have her way, but said that she would have to personally pick her up and drop her off at get off work from now on.

Ding Yue readily agreed, and An An personally picked her up and dropped her off, which made her the happiest.

Since their marriage, the couple has never argued. An'an always gives in to him and doesn't let any other woman with ulterior motives get within three feet of him, giving Ding Yue a great sense of security.

The young couple were discussing things on one side, while Zhao Huanhuan and Lin Yuan were discussing things on the other side.

"I'll try to retire this summer. I also want to come back. My parents are getting weaker every year, and I'm worried about what might happen to them. Besides, Yueyue is pregnant, and An'an needs to take better care of her. I'll come back and help you take care of things at the company." Lin Yuan felt sorry for her son and her wife.

Zhao Huanhuan nodded, "Okay, let's go back. There shouldn't be any problems this time."

Lin Yuan hummed in agreement. He was too old to rush into anything now; it was the era of the young people.

When he walked around the military region, people always called him "Old Chief".

Every time I hear him addressed like that, it reminds me that he is really old and that he has truly worked in the military his whole life.

"Shall I go with you?" Zhao Huanhuan asked.

Lin Yuan is sixty years old this year, and he is showing signs of aging. Zhao Huanhuan is a little worried about him going to Kyoto alone, and she wants him to bring some things back with him.

"No need, just arrange a car and driver for me to follow along. It'll be tiring for you to come along too." Lin Yuan shook her head.

Zhao Huanhuan nodded. "Okay, that's settled then."

In mid-April of 2008, Lin Yuan returned to Kyoto to apply for retirement.

It was approved a week later.

After handing over all his work, he hosted a banquet in Kyoto for his superiors who had taken care of him over the years and some of his trusted subordinates who had always followed him.

Everyone came; some were happy that he could finally get some rest, while others were sad that he was leaving Kyoto.

After spending most of the day having fun with everyone, Lin Yuan finally finished dealing with things here.

The next day, he packed his things, preparing to go home on the third day.

That night, he received a call from Zhao Huanhuan.

On the phone, Zhao Huanhuan's voice was a little choked up as she told him to come back tomorrow.

Lin Yuan said he was going back tomorrow to ask her what had happened at home.

He knew Huanhuan well; she was so strong, so her current state must mean something bad had happened at home.

"Dad suddenly had a brain hemorrhage and was hospitalized. We're at the hospital now!" Zhao Huanhuan said to him as she walked out of the ward.

"Which father?" Lin Yuan's mind went blank. How could the accident have happened so precisely during the few days she was away?

“Grandpa An’an!” Zhao Huanhuan said softly, “Don’t worry, just leave early tomorrow morning. He’s still undergoing examinations, and if possible, the surgery will be arranged as soon as possible. However, the doctor said the surgery carries a high risk, and we should choose carefully.”
