Chapter 93 Warning
◎“I’ll wait for you.”◎
warn
I got into Yu Xu's car.
This is a very ordinary, common old Ford Focus, but the interior is very clean and extremely bright.
He was visibly nervous, his hands resting on the steering wheel. He didn't look at me immediately, but instead fiddled with the car's ornaments for a while.
“You…” I found his awkwardness amusing, and I chuckled. “Am I making you so nervous?”
"A little," Yu Xu said frankly to me. "It was my first time going on a date with a girl alone, and I didn't know what to do."
I glanced at my own skirt, then looked at Yu Xu.
"Me too."
"First date with a guy?"
"Hmm... with you, this is the first time." I thought for a moment, "But this time is the one I've been looking forward to the most."
Yu Xu suddenly smiled.
He started the car and drove all the way to the movie theater.
I volunteered to buy potato chips and Coke. There were still 30 minutes before the movie started, but we arrived early in order to get good seats. However, the theater was empty, and the large screen was playing advertisements for the upcoming rugby game on a loop.
After waiting for more than ten minutes, with the movie about to start, the huge theater was still empty.
"You're not planning to take me to a horror movie, are you?" I asked him with a laugh. The Empire State has a very strict film rating system; the more gory and terrifying the film, the higher the requirements for viewers, including needing to bring relevant identification for entry.
Yu Xu blushed slightly. "I bought a mainstream animated film, but I don't know what happened today."
I smiled and nodded.
The movie had already started, but our row of seats—no, the entire theater—was empty. I couldn't be bothered to think about it; I just focused intently on the huge silver screen in front of me.
The surroundings quickly darkened, and several cheerful and cute Minions jumped out of the screen. I found it very interesting, and while eating potato chips, I looked up and watched. Every now and then, I could hear Yu Xu laughing.
I couldn't help but secretly turn my head to look at him, scrutinizing him in the exceptionally dim atmosphere.
Yu Xu was intently watching the movie. The dim light fell on his face, and his features formed a wonderfully beautiful picture. Half of him was hidden in darkness, while the other half was full of gentleness and elegance.
Halfway through the movie, no one had come in yet. I felt a little cold and couldn't help but move closer to him.
The moment I touched his body, I could feel Yu Xu stiffen for a moment, but he still draped his coat over me.
“You look beautiful today,” Yu Xu suddenly said.
"The scent of the perfume suits you very well."
"It's beautiful overall, and I mean it."
I wrapped my arms around his waist and rubbed my face against his chest. My long hair slipped down my shoulders and neck, and he gently raised his hand to tuck all my hair behind my ears. I couldn't help but look at him, and my heart inexplicably started pounding.
"I..." Yu Xu wanted to say something, but the huge screen suddenly froze.
We both froze, and simultaneously looked at the screen.
The movie screen, which was playing, suddenly went dark in a few seconds, and the theater became pitch black. I couldn't help but start to get nervous, and my hands unconsciously gripped the hem of his clothes.
Yu Xu reassured me, "Don't be afraid, it might be a malfunction. I'll go ask the staff."
"Hmm." A strong sense of unease washed over me, but Yu Xu's tone made me choose to believe him, and I patiently sat in the theater waiting for him to return.
-
Yu Xu walked out of the screening room.
The entire corridor, like the inside, was eerily quiet. Yu Xu couldn't help but feel suspicious. This was the busiest cinema in the entire Empire State, and with so many popular movies showing recently, how could it be completely empty?
"Is anyone there?" he asked tentatively, his eyes scanning the surroundings. Although it was common for movie theater staff to slack off after checking tickets, it was still quite unusual for them to be acting this strangely.
He didn't see a person until he walked down the steps.
The man was tall and wore a black suit. The top two buttons of his dark shirt were undone, revealing his collarbone.
His attire appeared casual, but the fabric of his suit looked exceptionally luxurious. The man exuded an undeniable sense of pressure, and even though it was clear from his appearance that he was only a few years older than Yu Xu, Yu Xu still felt somewhat nervous.
The man held a pale silver e-cigarette in his hand, but didn't move it, merely fiddling with it rather listlessly. Only when he heard Yu Xu's footsteps did he slowly lift his eyelids and look over.
His jet-black eyes were filled with indifference, arrogance, and utter indifference.
"I need to talk to you." The man calmly put away the thing in his hand and spoke to Yu Xu.
Yu Xu was somewhat surprised, and even felt a chill run down his spine when he heard the man's deep voice.
He knew perfectly well that the other person was not from the same world as him. The domineering and aggressive feeling he brought was a threat and oppression from someone in a superior position. Even though the man had not yet spoken, Yu Xu seemed to already know why the other person had come.
Jiang Zhao's voice was light and cold, his dark and sharp eyes falling on Yu Xu's face, "Do you know who your date is tonight?"
Yu Xu looked at him silently. "Are you talking about Xiao Fu?"
Bang!
Before he could finish speaking, Jiang Zhao had already kicked him to the ground. Although the pain in his abdomen made Yu Xu's face turn pale instantly, he still insisted on not shouting. He knew that in such a quiet environment, even the slightest sound from him would be heard by the very uneasy girl inside.
It was only now that Yu Xu seemed to finally understand the reason for her dazed, confused, and painful state that night.
Before he could think it through, his face was lifted up. To be precise, the man forced him to tilt his head back with his custom-made black pointed leather shoes.
His shoe stomped hard on Yu Xu's face, not with much force, but with a strong sense of humiliation.
"Do you recognize me?" Jiang Zhao's aloof demeanor set him apart from others, but Yu Xu paid no attention to the financial world and had no way of knowing who the man in front of him was.
“Jiang Fu is my wife. If it were before, I would have made a man like you, who overestimated himself and approached her, disappear long ago.” Jiang Zhao looked down at him, a cold and cruel smile appearing on his handsome face.
Yu Xu frowned.
Jiang Zhao stared at him, his expression cold, but his eyes were filled with hostility and jealousy. However, he quickly regained his composure.
He said calmly, "Be sensible and leave her. Tell her that it's not a good match and don't contact her again."
Jiang Zhao casually stepped over Yu Xu's shoulder.
The next second, a check floated down in front of him, and he could vaguely see that it contained a very tempting amount.
"This is the payment." He said coldly, then watched as Yu Xu stood up from the ground.
Yu Xu looked at Jiang Zhao again. Several bodyguards, also dressed in black suits, had separated the two of them. The man not far away had extremely fair skin, handsome and three-dimensional features, and an air of old-fashioned wealth. That nobility had long been ingrained in his bones. He was indifferent, aloof, and yet at ease.
The man left quickly, leaving behind the words, "I've booked the entire movie theater. You have plenty of time to reject her and make her give up on you completely."
Yu Xu frowned deeply. He looked at the flimsy check and silently put it away.
-
More than ten minutes have passed.
I kept glancing down at my watch, my mood swaying slightly before slowly sinking again. But I no longer liked to cry so easily. I patiently sat in my seat and waited until that familiar lemon scent wafted over.
"Yu Xu? Why have you been gone for so long? Where have you been... What happened?" I asked several questions without realizing it.
He smiled at me and said, "Don't worry, the staff said it was a technical issue. I stayed there for a while and made sure it would be fixed before I came back. But he also compensated me with some merchandise. We can go and choose some later."
Hearing his voice, I felt relieved and gently bit my lip.
Just as Yu Xu had said, the screen in front of me lit up on time. I blinked and, as usual, turned my head to get my drink, but in a casual glance, I noticed something was amiss.
Dark red marks were faintly visible on Yu Xu's face, as if he had been...stomped on for a long time.
I was startled, and my heart started racing, completely out of my control.
"What's wrong?" he asked me gently, his voice revealing no sign of anything amiss.
I turned around quietly, my right hand clenched nervously, a chill running down my spine. I was afraid... something would happen to Yu Xu.
If it's just about monitoring and controlling me, why involve the people around me? A completely unfamiliar scene uncontrollably appeared in my mind. I vaguely saw a boy, his face indistinct, gently removing the leaves from my head.
Just seconds later, I saw the boy's hands covered in blood, and he was lying on the ground, howling and crying helplessly.
"Jiang Fu, Xiao Fu?"
I came to my senses when I heard Yu Xu calling my name.
He looked at me, his eyes filled with nervousness. I smiled slightly, "I was thinking about what merchandise to get later. I have so many things I like, I wonder if they'll give us any."
Yu Xu smiled, but from his gentle expression, I could tell he had encountered something.
I pretended not to know, and he tacitly didn't tell me either. It wasn't until quite a while after the movie ended, probably when the injury on his face wouldn't be noticeable, that he got up and left with me.
Although we received some Disney plush toys, the atmosphere in the car was noticeably more somber than before we set off.
“This is fine.” I said, pointing to the corner a block away from the apartment. Yu Xu didn’t stop me; he just slowly pulled the car over to the side of the street.
After a long pause, I finally said, "Don't you have anything to say to me?"
He scratched his cheek somewhat awkwardly, "Haha, did you have a good date today?"
"That's not it," I said seriously. "What I wanted to tell you is that... let's not see each other for now."
Yu Xu's smile faded slightly, and he even looked at me with some difficulty. I watched as his smile disappeared. He pondered for a few seconds and then calmly said, "I... I'm not someone who likes to pry into other people's past, and I know you don't want to say so much, but I don't want to leave you like this."
"Why?" I asked him.
He picked up the coffee from the shelf, looked at me, and said, "I'll answer that question later. Goodbye."
I stared at him for a long time before finally accepting the fact with no other choice.
As I walked towards the apartment, Yu Xu followed me at a distance that was neither too close nor too far, which made my heart beat even faster. When I reached the bottom of the building, I felt a strong desire and impulse, which made me look up at the apartment across the street!
As I expected, the window there was lit up, like eyes that suddenly appeared in the boundless darkness, watching my every move.
As if I had just thought of something, I turned around, walked to Yu Xu's car not far behind me, and knocked on the car door.
He rolled down the car window and looked at me with a puzzled expression.
I reached out to him, and Yu Xu moved closer. I suddenly grabbed his wrist. He was startled, looked up, and I pressed my face against his and kissed him. He looked at me with a smile in his eyes: "Goodnight, Xiao Fu."
"From today onwards, please don't see me anymore, okay?"
Yu Xu looked up and our eyes met in the dim light.
His eyes dimmed for a moment, then he looked at me firmly: "I'll wait for you."
[Author's Note]
What's happened these past few days has been truly exhausting.
Many people may not know this, but in real life I'm actually a non-marriage advocate. I have a stable boyfriend, but that doesn't mean I'll get married, because I'm at the age to get married, and have been for quite some time.
I work in another city and only go home for holidays, but my relatives keep urging me to return. I'm financially and financially independent, and the money I spent on my studies abroad came from my parents, who aren't relatives. They also supported my decision. But my relatives still don't understand my actions.
The above is the premise.
After returning home for the National Day holiday, I was prepared to write every day. However, on the evening of the 3rd, while I was writing, a relative called me out. When I returned, my computer had been smashed by the relative's child. I was furious because this little boy is already at an elementary school level, and I don't believe his action was unintentional. After arguing with his mother, she finally agreed to fix my computer.
On the morning of the 4th, she took my computer out, then left it at the repair shop and came straight back. When I asked what happened, she only told me it was being repaired. But as everyone knows, repair shops sometimes secretly replace computer parts. So I drove back and found out that the computer had actually been damaged from the fall. Because it wasn't in a laptop bag when it was brought in, the hard drive was also damaged, making it basically unusable and beyond repair.
I urgently ordered a new computer and sent the old one back to my boyfriend so he could send it for repair immediately (it contained not only my drafts of a new article but also a lot of other work materials, and unfortunately, it was still ruined). When I got home, I found my suitcase and bags ransacked by the kids, my vlog camera, and my spare flip phone were practically destroyed. I immediately had a fight with my family, but as mentioned above, they continued to pressure me, using my reluctance to get married and my bad temper as reasons. They even thought these were trivial matters and small amounts of money, and that I shouldn't be so petty with a child.
My family is considered quite open-minded, but in this matter, even my parents think I'm in the wrong. All I really want is an apology from the child and an explanation for going through my things. But it seems that not getting married has become an unforgivable offense. In the eyes of elders, any woman who doesn't marry is considered to have committed a thousand wrongs.
I was really, really angry. That night I bought a high-speed train ticket home, but because my computer had been sent back to my hometown, it took me a lot of effort to get it back. I'm completely exhausted and worn out. From the 6th to the 7th, I couldn't do anything but lie at home. Today I'm trying to muster up some energy to keep writing.
Okay, that's all I wanted to say. Sometimes I feel like I can completely break down in an instant... But the good thing is, I've come up with a more interesting new story idea. I've also learned from the experience of this story always having unexpected problems, so I'll diligently learn to save up drafts for that story.
As for the ending of this story, it will continue as usual, with daily updates and the story concluding by the end of October.
