Everyone knows that Xing Lan, who has just been promoted to a high position in the company, is an unapproachable 'high-mountain flower'. However, what they don't know is that he secretl...
Chapter 32 Hero Saves the Dog, Shall We Go on a Date This Weekend?
Under the cover of night, a burly drunkard suddenly emerged from some dark corner, wearing a pair of peeling brown sandals and reeking of alcohol. He rudely blocked Xing Lan's path.
His body swayed unsteadily from drunkenness, but his eyes were clear and sharp. His small eyes stared at Xing Lan with ill intent. He tilted his head back and drank the last bit of beer in the can, then crushed it and tossed it aside, letting out a long burp.
Xing Lan frowned, watching his movements warily, and unconsciously tightened her grip on the leash.
The drunkard lazily wiped the wine stains from his mouth, then suddenly shifted his gaze from Xing Lan, squinting at the little prince who stood obediently at his feet with an ambiguous look.
Samoyeds are known as "smiling angels" in the dog world. This breed of dog has a great temperament, is naturally warm and affectionate, and is very friendly to strangers.
The little prince noticed that the drunkard seemed curious about him, and disregarding the restraint of the leash, he took small, friendly steps forward and sniffed the man's scent.
Faced with the puppy's innocent gesture of affection, the drunkard's face suddenly turned extremely ugly, like a powder keg that had been lit and was about to explode in an instant.
He angrily pointed at the little prince and cursed him without any basis, "You...you damn dog! How dare you bite me! I'll fucking kill you right now!!"
After saying that, he suddenly raised one foot and fiercely tried to kick it.
Fortunately, Xing Lan reacted quickly, immediately pulling up the leash and scooping the little prince into her arms.
The drunkard kicked at nothing in the end, and his expression became even more dissatisfied.
Although he wasn't actually injured, the little prince was still quite startled by the drunkard's sudden shout. He let out a short, startled yelp in his owner's arms, the innocent bark breaking the silence of the night.
Xing Lan, holding the dog, quickly took a few steps back, her brows furrowed slightly: "What nonsense are you talking about? It didn't even touch you, how could it bite you?"
The drunkard pressed forward relentlessly, pointing to an old wound on his leg that he didn't know he'd gotten in a fight, and shouted arrogantly, "I don't care! It bit me anyway! You're the only dog on this street, do you think I'd wrongly accuse you?"
"You damn dog! It bit me so hard! Ouch! Ouch!" He lay down on the ground like a spoiled brat, clutching his leg and crying exaggeratedly, "Pay me money now, I need to get a rabies shot!"
"And compensation for emotional distress! And my lost wages! Don't fucking think about leaving until you pay me!"
Xing Lan glanced coldly at the drunkard who was rolling around on the ground, too lazy to pay him any attention, and turned to walk away.
Unexpectedly, the madman suddenly crawled over on all fours and grabbed his leg tightly, like a piece of chewing gum, impossible to kick away, looking like he wouldn't give up until he got his money.
Xing Lan held her little prince, who hadn't yet lost weight, in one arm and struggled to pull her phone out of her pocket with the other. She was about to call the police when her hand trembled, and the phone accidentally fell to the ground.
The drunkard saw this and reached out to snatch his phone.
Xing Lan's heart tightened. He hurriedly tried to pick up his phone, but he was holding the dog and couldn't move easily. He watched as the drunk man was about to snatch the phone that had fallen to the ground.
But then the man let out a scream. Just as his fingertips were about to touch the phone, he suddenly stopped and lay motionless on the ground.
Xing Lan seized the opportunity and successfully took the phone. He breathed a slight sigh of relief, but couldn't help feeling a little strange.
I subconsciously looked down and saw a third figure appear on the empty road.
The newly appeared figure was tall, thin, and aloof, with his hands in his pockets. He kicked the drunkard who was lying on the ground hard. The drunkard was kicked so hard that he suffered internal injuries, clutching his stomach in pain, coughing violently twice, and a little blood immediately seeped from the corner of his mouth.
Xing Lan looked up and, in the dim light of the street lamp, immediately spotted Li Baidong's familiar figure.
Li Baidong, wearing a simple hoodie and casually dangling a lollipop from his mouth, squatted down, grabbed the drunkard by the collar, and suddenly punched him hard in the face.
"Whose dog bit you?"
His eyes were dark and bright. He pulled a small, gleaming knife from his pocket, weighed it in his hand like a toy, and asked with a half-smile, "Whose dog bit you? Hmm?"
The drunkard glanced at Li Baidong, a tall, burly man with a menacing face who looked like a bull in the night and who could beat someone up with incredible strength, and then at Xing Lan, who was holding a very fat dog with one hand and was obviously not weak either. He silently weighed the difference in strength between himself and them and immediately chickened out.
"No, no dog bit me..." he stammered, frantically waving his fat hands behind him on the ground, trying to sneak away from this troublesome place.
Li Baidong reacted swiftly, stomping precisely on his elbow to stop his hasty escape. He raised his voice and demanded sharply, "Explain yourself! Which dog bit you? Who are you asking for compensation?"
A sharp crack echoed through the quiet air as the drunkard's arm was instantly twisted into a strange position.
He stared wide-eyed, turned his head in horror, and felt his left arm lose all sensation in excruciating pain, as if it had been dislocated.
"Don't you know what to say?" Li Baidong looked calmly at the drunkard, his gaze gradually falling on the man's other arm.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, big brother... I was wrong!"
The drunkard was pale and covered in cold sweat, repeatedly begging for mercy.
Li Baidong looked down at him coldly, slowly raised his hand, and lifted the sleeve of his hoodie. He was about to teach him another lesson when he suddenly felt a hand gently resting on his shoulder.
"Forget it, let's ignore him." Xing Lan lowered her eyes and said to Li Baidong, who was squatting on the ground, "Let's go."
Li Baidong glanced back at Xing Lan, and his fierce gaze immediately turned docile in front of him, as if the guy who had been hitting and threatening him with all his might was someone else.
"Brother..." Li Baidong lowered his voice and called Xing Lan in a soft, sticky voice, as if he were being affectionate.
Xing Lan glanced at him, pulled Li Baidong up from the ground, took a step closer, and calmly whispered in his ear, "Someone like him has no ties in the world, so there's nothing to be afraid of."
"You're still a proper student. What if you really hurt someone?" Xing Lan's tone gradually became serious, with a hint of warning. "You're about to graduate. Do you want to get a disciplinary record at school?"
“…Who told him to bully my brother?” Li Baidong looked at Xing Lan with a wronged expression and muttered softly.
Despite saying that, he obediently let go of the drunkard's collar, gave him a warning glare, and followed Xing Lan home.
The two walked one after the other. Xing Lan glanced at Li Baidong casually and said, "You're quite good at fighting."
"When did you learn it? Did you play it often before?"
"No..." Li Baidong thought about his rich fighting experience since childhood, and touched his nose guiltily to lie, "I just stayed in my hometown when I was a child. As a country kid, I didn't have many toys, so I could only fight each other for fun. I've developed some fighting skills... They were all friendly matches."
"Playing fighting with each other?" Xing Lan's expression was indifferent as she pursed her lips, making it impossible to tell whether she believed Li Baidong's lies. "Your entertainment is quite unique."
Li Baidong chuckled awkwardly twice, quickly followed, put an arm around Xing Lan's waist, turned his head to look at him, and happily asked for praise as if seeking credit: "Brother, wasn't I handsome just now? Does this count as a hero saving a damsel in distress?"
"Consider it a hero saving a dog." Xing Lan, holding the little prince, glanced at him with a hint of melancholy. "Don't do that again next time, it's dangerous."
Li Baidong pouted and whispered, "Brother is the same way..."
"How am I?" Xing Lan suddenly stopped and turned to look at him.
"It's nothing!" Li Baidong smiled brightly. "I just felt that if I were walking my dog and encountered a drunk man today, you would have stepped in to protect me without hesitation, right?"
"No." Xing Lan turned her face away, strode forward, and said stubbornly, "I would never be so impulsive."
Although Xing Lan was being disingenuous, Li Baidong knew perfectly well that if anything really happened to him, Xing Lan would definitely stand up for him without hesitation.
Back in junior high, Xing Lan repeatedly stood up for him when he was bullied. Despite being a model student who always followed school rules, she disregarded the school's severe punishments for his sake.
The scar on his back was from when he took a wound for Li Baidong, and it hasn't faded yet. Every time Li Baidong sees it, he feels extremely guilty and angry at himself for being too young back then. Not only could he not protect Xing Lan, but he was also protected by Xing Lan like a fool.
Fortunately, he has grown up now and will protect his loved ones and not let them suffer any more grievances.

While Xing Lan was away at home for a few days, Li Baidong was filled with happiness.
Xing Lan used to be always busy and rarely spent time at home. He was busy working all day long. Even when his laptop on the desk ran out of power, he would not rest but instead use other devices to continue working.
But recently, Xing Lan has been waiting patiently for him to come home every day with her cats and dogs.
His car was repaired, and sometimes when he felt too idle at home, he would drive to the school to pick up Li Baidong. Li Baidong looked forward to seeing Xing Lan at the school gate every day, and he felt incredibly happy.
One evening, he was leaning on Xing Lan's shoulder watching TV when he saw the male and female leads in an idol drama holding hands and walking down the street. Suddenly, he touched Xing Lan's hand and suggested, "Brother, you must be so bored staying at home every day. How about we go on a date this weekend?"
The word "date" was somewhat unfamiliar to Xing Lan, who hadn't been in a relationship for a long time. He hesitated for a moment and asked Li Baidong, "Where do you want to go?"
Li Baidong thought about it. There were too many places he wanted to go with Xing Lan, and he couldn't decide which one was the most suitable.
"A date is just about going out and exploring." He blinked and looked at Xing Lan with a sincere expression. "We can have a meal together, watch a movie, and take a walk by the lake. As long as I'm with you, I'm happy to go anywhere."
They hadn't actually gone on a formal date yet, so this wasn't an unreasonable request. Xing Lan happened to be free recently, so there was no reason for her to refuse.
He nodded and said to Li Baidong, "Okay, let's go to Huashang Street then, it's been quite lively there lately."
"Okay, I'll do whatever you say." Li Baidong said, nuzzling Xing Lan's neck affectionately with his head.
Xing Lan discovered that Li Baidong was extremely clingy, especially fond of physical contact. When the two were together, he always liked to touch this and poke that, and he would always sniff Xing Lan's scent.
Sometimes, Xing Lan felt like she was raising a second dog.
After the TV program ended, it was already quite late, and Xing Lan gradually felt a bit sleepy.
Li Baidong ate a bag of potato chips out of boredom. He turned his head and saw that Xing Lan had closed his eyes and fallen asleep beside him at some point. His eyelashes were long, leaving a faint black shadow on his snow-white face.
Xing Lan's sleeping face was so adorable, as quiet as a porcelain doll, which softened Li Baidong's heart. He quietly put down the potato chips in his hand, looked at Xing Lan, and softly called out "Brother".
Seeing that Xing Lan did not react, he boldly stepped forward and stared intently at his handsome face, his expression very serious, as if he were counting his eyelashes one by one.
Since Li Baidong moved in, Xing Lan's sleep has been getting better and better, and she slept very soundly today as well.
He could never have known in his sleep that Li Baidong's gaze was no longer warm and sunny as before, but cold and dark, filled with an intense possessiveness and aggression that seemed to want to devour him whole.
Li Baidong stared at him quietly for a long time, licked his lips, carefully wiped his hands clean with a wet wipe on the coffee table, picked him up from the sofa, and walked towards the bedroom.
