Chapter 257 Mirage?

They each ate a flatbread and drank some water, which was enough to barely fill their stomachs.

After resting, the three left the room and appeared on the street. The wandering zombies smelled the human scent and turned to rush towards them.

This wasn't the first time the three had gone out to hunt zombies, and they worked together very well.

Fang Cheng's metal-based superpower led the charge, while Jiang Ming's water-based superpower and Luo Lei's fire-based superpower each guarded one side.

The three stood back to back, fighting and retreating. After clearing out a group of zombies, Fang Cheng was responsible for leading the zombie horde away.

The other two swiftly dissected the zombies' heads, searching for the crystal cores.

After completing all this, the three retreated towards the suburbs.

There are fewer zombies in the suburbs, so taking a detour back to the base from the suburbs is the safest option.

"Jiang Ming, hold off the zombie horde behind us. What's going on today? Why are these zombies so hard to shake off?"

They fought their way out, pursued relentlessly by the zombies.

The zombies rarely see food, and with the delicious aroma wafting ahead, how could they possibly give up so easily?

Jiang Ming gritted his teeth and unleashed a wave of water, knocking down the zombies chasing in the lead. The zombies behind him couldn't react in time, and those that tripped over the ground fell down in large numbers.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the three ran into a corner and left the zombie horde far behind.

Jiang Ming finally breathed a sigh of relief. "The zombies are getting harder and harder to kill now. As the apocalypse progresses, I think the zombies are also evolving. Their reactions and speed are much more agile than when the apocalypse first started."

If this continues, the zombies will become increasingly difficult to deal with.

Luo Lei cursed and swore, "God is simply not letting people live. When will this hellish life ever end?"

As the three were chatting, two or three zombies rushed over. They each took care of one and went to dig out the zombies' heads.

No crystal cores were found, so nothing was mined.

Fang Cheng swung his axe and smashed it twice on the zombie's head.

"Useless thing, it doesn't even grow a crystal core. It's growing faster than before, so why doesn't it grow more crystal cores? We've been busy all day and only found one crystal core. Looks like we'll be eating coarse grain pancakes again tomorrow. When will we finally get to eat meat?"

The group walked dejectedly towards the suburbs.

As Fang Cheng was cursing, a splash of color caught his eye.

He looked up and, upon seeing the vast expanse of thriving, bountiful farmland, his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets, his mouth gaped open, and he looked as if he had seen a ghost.

The two people following behind him did not notice that Fang Cheng, who was walking in front, suddenly stopped. They both shoved onto him, almost stepping headfirst into the muddy, rotten ground.

Luo Lei pushed him, "Why are you doing this? The acid rain has stopped, but the concentration of acid rain on the ground is still very high. If you fall on the ground, your face will be corroded and rotted. You won't be able to eat any more whole grain cakes tomorrow."

Jiang Ming looked up at him and said, "What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost. There aren't any zombies here. We cleared them out a long time ago."

Fang Cheng was completely stunned. He asked in a trembling voice, "Have you two ever seen a mirage?"

Luo Lei was speechless. "What mirage? Isn't that something that only appears at sea or in the desert? We don't have one in a place like this."

Fang Cheng's eyes widened, and he slowly raised his hand, which was trembling like a leaf, pointing straight ahead.

"A mirage, do you think that's a mirage?"

The two looked in the direction he was pointing, and their eyes widened in disbelief, as if they had seen a ghost.

Jiang Ming exclaimed in a hoarse voice, "Holy crap, holy crap, it really is a mirage! Am I so desperate for vegetables that a mirage full of crops has appeared in the suburbs?"

Look at all those vibrant colors—golden wheat fields, yellow cornfields, and green vegetables! My goodness, it makes my mouth water!

Luo Lei was a little more rational. "What mirage? How could there be a mirage on land? That's clearly just farmland."

Jiang Ming swallowed hard. "Nonsense! We've searched the entire suburbs already. There's no farmland here. It wasn't here when we came this morning. It clearly appeared out of nowhere."

This doesn't make sense! How could such a large field full of crops suddenly appear out of nowhere? Is it a hallucination, or is it a ghost?

Fang Cheng couldn't wait to run forward.

He shouted as he ran, "Who cares if it's true or not, let's go and see for ourselves!"

The three of them realized what was happening and, without saying a word, ran wildly toward the farmland.

They looked so eager, as if they couldn't wait to rush into the golden wheat field.

As you get closer, the fresh scent of crops wafts over you.

The rich aroma of fruit, the fresh scent of grass and leaves, the smell of earth, mixed with some floral fragrance, blend together to create a sweet and refreshing fragrance.

It's the taste of life.

Inhaling it into your lungs feels like it's injecting life into your entire being.

After being surrounded by the stench of decay, rot, and death of the apocalypse for so long, the sudden smell of this odor almost made me want to cry.

The three of them stood at the edge of the farmland, looking at the vibrant and thriving sweet potato field. They stood frozen in place, too afraid to go forward.

They were overjoyed, yet fearful that it was all just an illusion and that the bountiful farmland would vanish once they stepped forward.

Fang Cheng was at a loss, tears welling up in his eyes. "Is it an illusion? Even if it is, I want to see more of this scenery. It's been so long since I've seen such a vibrant scene."

Luo Lei sniffed hard. "I can smell the unique fragrance of sweet potato vines. It's not a hallucination. You can't smell something if you're hallucinating."

Jiang Ming couldn't wait any longer and rushed towards the sweet potato field.

"I can't take it anymore, I'm choking on my own saliva. I want to eat sweet potatoes, boiled sweet potatoes, roasted sweet potatoes, raw sweet potatoes, sweet potato vines, sweet potato leaves, I want to eat them all, I want to eat them right now."

As he spoke, he rushed into the sweet potato field like a pig bursting out of its pen, not even bothering to dig up the sweet potatoes, grabbing the leaves and stuffing them into his mouth.

As the taste of green leaves spread in his mouth, Jiang Ming, like a cow or sheep grazing on grass, lay on the ground gnawing on sweet potato leaves while crying loudly.

"It's not a hallucination, it's real! It's so delicious, it's so good!"

Seeing how much he was enjoying his food, Fang Cheng and Luo Lei couldn't resist either, so they rushed in, lay down on the ground, and started gnawing on it.

Just then, a sound exploded in the air.

"Three intruders detected: one Level 3 Metal-type Ability User, one Level 2 Water-type Ability User, and one Level 2 Fire-type Ability User. The intruders are stealing property from the base. Please return the stolen goods immediately and leave."

If the item is not returned and the user leaves within three seconds, a countermeasure will be triggered.

three……

two……"

The three people who were lying on the ground eating grass, with sweet potato leaves in their mouths, looked completely bewildered.

"What's going on?"
