Episode 122: A Banquet with Undercurrents

After hanging up the phone, Gu Yanting leaned back in his chair, a sinister smile spreading across his face. He began to plot an even more vicious scheme, determined to ensure that Ah Yu and Zhong Hua would never be able to recover their lives...

Meanwhile, in their secluded cottage, Ah Yu and Zhong Hua were unaware that Gu Yanting's conspiracy was quietly unfolding. They enjoyed this rare moment of togetherness during their brief respite, oblivious to the fact that a greater crisis was closing in on them...

In the days that followed, Ah Yu and Zhong Hua lived together in the small house, relying on each other. They cooked and cleaned together, as if they had returned to those simple and beautiful times. However, this peaceful life did not last long.

One day, Ah Yu returned from buying daily necessities with a very serious expression.

"Zhong Hua, I think someone is following me. Gu Yanting may have already found our approximate location," Ah Yu said worriedly.

Upon hearing this, Zhong Hua's heart tightened. "What should we do? Should we leave here immediately?"

Ah Yu nodded. "Yes, we can't stay here any longer. But before we leave, I think we need to figure out a few things."

"What's wrong?" Zhong Hua looked at Ah Yu with a puzzled expression.

Ah Yu hesitated for a moment, then said, "I've recently discovered some clues while spending time with you, which vaguely point to your background. I think this might be related to our current situation."

Zhong Hua was stunned. She had never imagined there would be anything wrong with her background. "My background? What have you discovered?"

Ah Yu sat down and slowly said, "I found some documents and photos. The information on them seems to indicate that you are related to a fire many years ago. Moreover, these clues also seem to be intricately connected to Gu Yanting."

Zhong Hua tried hard to recall, and suddenly, fragments of her childhood flashed through her mind. Those blurry memories gradually became clearer, and she remembered that she once had a younger brother next door, and that younger brother was very likely Ah Yu.

“Ah Yu, I think I’ve remembered something. I suspect I’m the girl next door who’s been missing for so many years. That fire back then might not have been an accident,” Zhong Hua said excitedly.

Ah Yu was also deeply moved upon hearing this. If Zhong Hua really was his neighbor, then there might be a huge conspiracy hidden behind all of this.

"We must find out the truth. Only by figuring out all of this can we truly get rid of Gu Yanting's threat," Ah Yu said firmly.

So the two decided to embark on a journey together to uncover Zhong Hua's past. They packed their bags and left the cabin under the cover of night, heading towards the place Zhong Hua remembered.

They arrived at the small town they once knew, but it had been completely transformed. Most of the streets and houses had been demolished, leaving only dilapidated ruins. However, Ah Yu and Zhong Hua did not give up. They inquired everywhere, searching for anyone who knew anything about what had happened back then.

After several days of effort, they finally found one of their old neighbors. This neighbor was over seventy years old and in poor health, but when he heard Ah Yu and Zhong Hua's purpose for coming, he still tried his best to recall what had happened back then.

"That fire was indeed a bit strange. I remember there were a few strangers loitering around the area a few days before the fire. And after the fire, a man hurriedly left with a little girl. That little girl seemed to be Zhong Hua," the elderly neighbor said slowly.

Ah Yu and Zhong Hua were shocked upon hearing this. It seemed that there was indeed more to the story than met the eye regarding the fire years ago.

"Do you remember what that man looked like?" Ah Yu asked eagerly.

The old man shook his head. "It's been too long, I don't remember very clearly. I only remember that he was wearing a black suit and looked very wealthy."

Although they didn't get any more specific information, Ah Yu and Zhong Hua felt they were one step closer to the truth. They continued searching for clues in the town, leaving no possible place unchecked.

Finally, in an abandoned warehouse, they found a tattered diary. The diary belonged to a worker who was at the scene of the fire years ago, and it contained some details about the fire.

“According to the diary, the fire was deliberately set to steal an important document. And that document seems to be related to Zhong Hua’s family,” Ah Yu said while looking at the diary.

Upon hearing this, Zhong Hua was filled with anger and confusion. What secrets was her family hiding, and why had they suffered such a disaster because of a single document?

As the investigation deepened, more and more clues pointed to Gu Yanting. Ah Yu and Zhong Hua suspected that Gu Yanting was likely the mastermind behind the fire years ago, and that he had been searching for that document for many years. Zhong Hua's appearance gave him an opportunity to obtain the document.

“If Gu Yanting really is the mastermind, then he definitely won’t let us off easily. We must find evidence as soon as possible and expose his true colors,” Ah Yu said.

However, just as they were preparing to investigate further, danger was already creeping in. Gu Yanting's men finally found their trail, and an even greater crisis was about to erupt...

Gu Yanting's men appeared like ghosts in front of Ah Yu and Zhong Hua, surrounding them completely.

"You've given us quite a search! Come back with us to see Young Master Gu!" the leader of the men in black said with a sneer.

Ah Yu quickly shielded Zhong Hua behind her, warily watching the men in black around them. "You won't be taking her away!"

The men in black swarmed forward, and Ah Yu fought back fiercely. He was exceptionally skilled, and for a time, the men in black found it difficult to get close. However, the enemy outnumbered him, and gradually, Ah Yu began to feel overwhelmed.
