Episode 145. The Police Station's Confession

Confession: Redemption through Love and the Fog of Truth

Police Department's determination

Lin Wanqing stood at the entrance of the police station, the city's hustle and bustle seemingly shut out at that moment. She took a deep breath, the cold wind sliding into her lungs, the icy touch making her shiver slightly, but the determination in her eyes remained unwavering. The slightly worn-out gate of the police station seemed to her like a door to an unknown destiny, and she was determined to step through it.

She walked step by step toward the police officer on duty, each step feeling like a relentless assault on her own heartbeat. The officer noticed the serious-looking woman and sensed a do-or-die determination in her gait. "Hello, I want to turn myself in." Lin Wanqing's voice wasn't loud, but it was clear and forceful, like a bell tolling in the empty police station lobby.

The police officer on duty paused slightly, quickly sizing up Lin Wanqing. She was well-dressed, and although her face was somewhat pale, her eyes held an unfathomable calm. "Please sit here and tell me the details," the officer said, gesturing to a chair nearby and picking up a notebook and pen.

Lin Wanqing slowly sat down, placed her hands folded on her lap, took a deep breath, and began to confess in detail to a series of so-called "crimes." Her voice was very calm, as if she were telling a story she knew by heart. "A few months ago, the negative public opinion against Zhong Hua and A Yu on the Internet was orchestrated by me. I hired people to contact online trolls, fabricate all kinds of false rumors, and guide public opinion to attack them."

As the police officer took notes, he couldn't help but look up at her, his eyes full of doubt. In the officers' experience, most people who turned themselves in were flustered, or filled with guilt and fear, but this woman was so calm, unusually calm. Moreover, such a large-scale manipulation of public opinion seemed unlikely to be the work of a seemingly weak woman.

Lin Wanqing seemed oblivious to the police officer's suspicions and continued speaking methodically: "Also, the leak of the news that Zhong Hua's mother was hospitalized and needed high medical expenses was also my doing. I wanted to use this to threaten A Yu and make him leave Zhong Hua." She described the situation in great detail, from how she contacted the online troll leaders to the specific instructions she gave them, and then to the channels through which the information was leaked. Every detail was clear and distinct, as if she had truly orchestrated everything.

Entanglements in memories

Lin Wanqing's thoughts drifted back to the past, a time filled with regret and entanglement. She and Ayu were childhood sweethearts, having spent many wonderful childhood days together. In those innocent years, they chased and played in the fields, counted stars together on summer nights, and promised each other that they would always be together in the future.

However, as she grew older, her life took a subtle turn. Ah Yu met Zhong Hua, and they fell in love at first sight. Lin Wanqing watched them together, so happy, and felt a pang of bitterness. The seeds of jealousy were quietly sown in her heart, slowly taking root and sprouting.

By chance, Lin Wanqing met Gu Yanting. Gu Yanting noticed her jealousy towards Zhong Hua and A Yu, and used this to his advantage, luring her into a conspiracy against Zhong Hua and A Yu. Gu Yanting promised that if she followed the plan, he could bring A Yu back to her side.

Blinded by jealousy and love, Lin Wanqing inexplicably agreed to Gu Yanting's proposal. She began assisting Gu Yanting in planning a series of events targeting Zhong Hua and A Yu, and watching them struggle in the vortex of public opinion gave her a morbid sense of pleasure.

But as time went on, she saw Zhong Hua's mother's condition worsen and saw A Yu and Zhong Hua suffering terribly, and her guilt deepened. She realized how foolish and cruel her actions had been, and the beautiful memories she had shared with A Yu, as well as the kindness deep within her heart, began to condemn her.

Finally, after a painful struggle, she decided to step forward and take responsibility for everything, hoping to redeem her own soul and bring some peace to Ah Yu and Zhong Hua.

Police doubts

As the police listened to Lin Wanqing's statement, their brows furrowed deeper. Her account was logically sound and rich in detail, but something felt off. "Ms. Lin, you say you orchestrated all of this. Was there anyone else behind you directing you? Or what was your motive? Just to get Ayu away from Zhong Hua, don't you think these methods are a bit too extreme?" The police put down their pen, staring directly at Lin Wanqing, trying to find a clue in her expression.

Lin Wanqing lowered her head slightly, then raised it again after a moment, her gaze meeting the police officer's with composure. "I know this is extreme, but I love Ah Yu, I love him to the point of losing my mind. Seeing them together, the jealousy in my heart made me lose myself and do these unforgivable things. I regret it now, so I'm here to bear the punishment I deserve." Her voice trembled slightly, as if she was suppressing the deep pain in her heart.

The police officer sighed softly. Although he felt things weren't that simple, Lin Wanqing's statement didn't seem to have any obvious flaws for the time being. "Alright, Ms. Lin, we've recorded your statement. However, we still need to further investigate and verify these circumstances. In the meantime, you may need to cooperate with our work." The officer closed the notebook and stood up.

Lin Wanqing nodded silently. She knew that the path she had chosen was still long, but she had no way to turn back. She was led to a temporary interrogation room and sat there alone, the air around her seemingly frozen. She waited quietly, feeling both fear of her unknown fate and a sense of relief at being freed.

The Eye of the Media Storm

Just as news of Lin Wanqing's surrender was circulating within the police station, it was inexplicably leaked. Major media outlets, like sharks smelling blood, swarmed to the station. In an instant, the station entrance was completely surrounded by reporters, their cameras and microphones pointed at the gate.
