Just as Ayu was diligently searching for clues, an unexpected incident occurred. She discovered that she seemed to be being watched; every time she went out to investigate, there were always suspicious figures looming behind her.

Once, Ayu had just left an insider's place and walked into a secluded alley when she suddenly felt a chill run down her spine. She turned around abruptly and saw several dark figures rushing towards her. Ayu reacted quickly, dodging to the side and then engaging in combat. Her attackers were clearly well-trained thugs, their moves ruthless. Although Ayu was also quite skilled, she found herself in a difficult situation.

Fortunately, she had some self-defense tools on her. Seizing the opportunity, she used a special spray to blind the other person, allowing her to escape. Panting, Ayu hid in a corner, realizing that her investigation of that powerful figure must have touched upon someone's interests, which was why someone wanted to stop her from continuing her investigation.

This only strengthened Ayu's resolve. She knew she was getting closer to the truth; otherwise, those people wouldn't be so anxious, going so far as to send people to deal with her. Back at the Alliance's base, she told Old Lin about her situation. Old Lin was very worried and advised her to suspend the investigation until things calmed down. But Ayu shook her head. "Uncle Lin, I've waited so many years, and I finally have a lead. I can't give up." Looking at her determined eyes, Old Lin sighed helplessly and only told her to be careful.

Ayu did not back down because of the attack; instead, she continued her investigation with even greater caution. She changed some of her investigative methods, no longer openly questioning people directly, but instead trying to piece together more information about the business tycoon by collecting old newspapers, industry reports, and other materials from that time.

Finally, while flipping through an old, yellowed industry magazine, she found a report that mentioned that the big shot had participated in a secret research project before his retirement, and this research project seemed to have some subtle connection with some special abilities that Ayu had always shown.

Ayu's hands trembled with excitement as she carefully read every word of the report. Although much of the crucial information was obscured, this was the most important clue she had obtained so far. Upon meeting Ayu and her team, the technician was initially wary. Only after Ayu sincerely explained her purpose and assured him that she wouldn't cause him any trouble did he slowly begin to speak: "That project, at the time, was publicly claimed to be researching a new type of energy technology. But actually, I later vaguely sensed that it seemed to be some kind of experiment about developing human potential. I don't know the specifics, though. I was only responsible for maintaining some of the equipment and didn't have access to the core content. But a few times I saw some of the test subjects, and they seemed to have unusual abilities, which is somewhat similar to what you described, young lady."

Ayu felt a tightness in her chest. She felt more and more that the truth about her background was about to come to light, but at the same time she felt a sense of fear, wondering what terrible secrets were hidden behind that project back then.

Chapter 8: The Alliance's Support and Concerns

After Ayu brought the information she obtained from the technician back to the Alliance, the entire Alliance was plunged into an atmosphere of tension and excitement. Everyone realized that this matter might be far more complex and significant than imagined, and that Ayu's background might be the key to unraveling this series of mysteries.
