The first chapter and the author's note both contain a friendly reminder: please do not be misled by subjective speculation. This is not a stock-picking story; the female protagonist is fickle ...
Chapter 6 You're Cheap
Shen Xun, Ruan Yi's nemesis and fiancé.
The Ruan and Shen families have been on good terms for generations, but the better the relationship between the Ruan and Shen families used to be, the worse the relationship between Ruan Yi and Shen Xun is now.
Actually, when they were young, Ruan Yi and he didn't have such a strained relationship; on the contrary, they were very close. Otherwise, why would they have been betrothed so early?
The turning point came in high school when Chen Xun went insane.
He would often give Ruan Yi a hard time, and Ruan Yi, being a spoiled young lady, couldn't stand being treated like that.
However, Ruan Yi did not want the two to break up without a clear understanding. She tried to reconcile twice without success. The last time she gave him a way out was at the indoor gymnasium.
The scene from that time flashed through my mind.
The boy held the ball with one hand, feinted to the side, and as his knees slightly bent, the muscles in his legs taut in a smooth arc beneath his shorts.
With a three-step layup and a deft, stylish flick of the ball, the basketball grazed the inside of the backboard and swished perfectly into the net, filling the entire arena with cheers and applause.
After landing, he shook his slightly damp hair, his Adam's apple bobbing gently with his breath, his sensual, thin muscles rising and falling with each breath, exuding a vibrant youthful energy.
The girls from his school days were like a group of cute little butterflies, bouncing and hopping around Chen Xun, handing him water one after another.
Shen Xun didn't take any of the bottles, his face full of impatience. "Don't come near me."
He forced his way out of the crowd with a sour face.
Shen Xun should be glad that this is an era that values appearance; otherwise, who would like someone with such a terrible personality?
Ruan Yi walked towards him with a bottle of sports drink in her hand.
They've been in a cold war for almost half a month, and this is the last time she'll give him a way out. That guy better be sensible.
Chen Xun caught a glimpse of the girl walking towards him out of the corner of his eye. His body stiffened instantly. He tugged at the hem of his clothes, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and touched his neck.
Eight hundred feints per second.
"Chen Xun! Try pretending you can't see me again!"
Ruan Yi stared at him, shaking the sports drink in her hand. It was grapefruit flavored, her favorite taste.
Shen Xun turned his head uncomfortably and saw her clothes. He immediately frowned and his hands, which were hanging at his sides, unconsciously clenched into fists.
Ruan Yi's uniform skirt was a bit short, obviously because she had folded the waistband several times. Her slender legs were dazzlingly white, and the size of her uniform shirt was also the smallest.
"She could have bought a size up, but she insists on wearing such tight clothes..."
The college uniforms are expensive and high-quality, but a bit too conservative. This is the most popular way to dress right now, and fashionable girls at school all dress like this.
"Ruan Yi, do you really enjoy attracting men's attention?" Chen Xun's tone was unfriendly.
Ruan Yi didn't understand why he said such sharp words, and her pretty face immediately turned red with anger.
"Shen Xun, what do you mean?"
Shen Xun watched as the girl in front of him blushed, his tone becoming even more certain, his face full of disdain.
"What I mean is, you're being cheap."
Ruan Yi was completely stunned. It was quite rare that someone in this world would dare to call her cheap.
Regardless of whether she is the daughter of the Ruan family or not, a girl's clothing and appearance should not be judged in this way; it's tasteless.
Ruan Yi fell silent.
Shen Xun thought he had provoked her, and grinned coldly, "Did I hit the nail on the head? It seems those things were true. You really are... promiscuous."
The surrounding students were taken aback by the tense atmosphere between the two most prominent figures in the college.
The stadium suddenly became much quieter, with everyone eavesdropping and listening intently.
Ruan Yi couldn't understand what he meant by "those." She just thought the person in front of her was crazy and talking nonsense. After all, it had been more than just a day or two since he started acting crazy.
It was disgusting. Ruan Yi felt like she was eating shit if she argued with him for even one more word.
In the silence, the plastic bottle cap popped open with a "click," and Ruan Yi's sports drink splashed all over Chen Xun's face.
Clear liquid dripped down his forehead in strings, soaking his jersey and making his well-defined muscles stand out beneath the fabric. Water droplets clung to the boy's long eyelashes.
"Shen Xun, when did I give you the wrong impression that I'm easy to bully?"
Chen Xun's jersey was soaked with sweat, his chest heaving violently, and he stared at her with disbelief.
“Three seconds. I’ll give you three seconds to apologize to me, otherwise…” Ruan Yi didn’t say anything more.
She raised her hand and extended three slender fingers, counting down.
"Three, two..." He lowered one finger for each number he counted.
Shen Xun stood there, stunned, never expecting things to turn out this way, and stammered as he opened his mouth.
"Ruan Yi, what are you doing? I just..."
"One!" His explanation was interrupted loudly by the last number that Ruan Yi read out.
"Fine, you've missed your chance."
Ruan Yi screwed the cap back on the empty bottle, turned around and left without looking back.
Shen Xun panicked as soon as he realized what was happening. He completely forgot about his pride, which he usually cared about most, and chased after her, grabbing her slender wrist.
"Ruan Yi! Are you serious? Don't throw a tantrum."
Ruan Yi tried to pull her wrist back, but she couldn't budge it at all. Her soft skin was gripped tightly by him, and her wrist turned red.
"Let go!" Ruan Yi shouted as she turned around.
Shen Xun was stunned. He saw that the girl's beautiful eyes were completely red and filled with tears, but she was holding them back.
Chen Xun felt a sharp pain in his heart and reluctantly let go.
I watched helplessly as the girl's figure disappeared into the light at the doorway.
Ruan Yi rushed home and hid in her room, crying uncontrollably. Before this, they were clearly best friends.
Ruan Yi refused to open the door no matter what her mother said, even after knocking on the door countless times.
“Little Yi, please open the door. Xiao Xun is here to see you. Mom asked him what happened, but he won’t say.”
"We can talk things out and resolve anything, okay, baby?"
Ruan Yi, caught up in her emotions, didn't want to hear anything, and her mother had no choice but to tell her to calm down first.
Ruan Yi hid under the covers, her eyes swollen from crying.
Suddenly hearing a rustling sound at the window, she looked up in confusion, only to be left speechless.
Gu Zhi, in an extremely cunning manner, clung to the narrow windowsill and knocked on the window.
Ruan Yi was so frightened that she got goosebumps all over. She immediately stopped crying and rushed to the window to open it.
The boy stumbled in and accidentally pinned Ruan Yi down.
Gu Zhi propped himself up, "I'm sorry, sister, did you bump into anything?" He anxiously checked Ruan Yi for any injuries.
The carpet in Ruan Yi's bedroom was very thick; it only hurt a little, but it wouldn't cause any injury.
"Gu Zhi! You've gone mad! Are you out of your mind?"
Gu Zhi immediately explained after being yelled at, "Sister, I'm worried about you, I'm afraid you might..."
Before he could finish speaking, Ruan Yi grabbed his neck.
"Idiot! Don't do that again!"
The girl buried her head in the crook of his neck, her voice soft and sweet, with a slightly hoarse sob in it.
Gu Zhi froze, desperately trying to control the distance between them by bracing his hands on either side of her.
"Damn... if we don't control this, something bad is going to happen."
