Chapter Fourteen: It's alright

Chen Jing walked up to Mo Ke and looked at the "assassin" being escorted. He already had a simple plan in mind and was about to speak when Mo Ke spoke first.

"Are you a member of the Fei family? Or a member of the Hidden Tower? I am Mo Ke from the Black Flag Mercenary Group. I am very grateful to you..." Mo Ke said quickly, with great respect and fear.

Mo Ke saw the young face under the hood and was startled by the person's youth.

Upon hearing her words, Chen Jing coughed lightly, his voice hoarse.

"Now is not the time to talk about this."

What are the Fei family and the Hidden Tower...? Chen Jing had absolutely no memory of these two names.

When Chen Jing made a sound, he realized why his voice had become so hoarse.

Perhaps it was because he hadn't drunk any water and had been so tense all the way... Chen Jing thought to himself.

"Release your entire group and the offerings here, and break out of the encirclement."

Yes, Chen Jing thought that if he couldn't give his invisibility ability to others, or if his spiritual energy was too depleted, he would use the captured assassin members to clear a path for him.

Mo Ke looked at Chen Jing with some fear and nodded: "Okay, okay, right away."

She jogged over, took the key from Chen Jing, and went to open the cell door.

Chen Jing silently observed the scene: the altar in the center, the blood-stained instruments of torture, and the low cheers of the prisoners. Some of the gloom in his heart was dispelled, and he felt less hopeless.

Before he came here, he had already killed two extraordinary individuals. He didn't know how many people were still on the ship, but with the help of these hunting groups and most of the people, even if they couldn't all break through, he at least had a sliver of hope to leave with Wan Tong.

Just after Mo Ke rescued several members of the Black Flag Mercenary Group, some of them had been tortured for a long time and lost their strength, while others were still being interrogated, but they still maintained their fighting ability.

After that… there was no plan. Chen Jing thought he could only improvise, at least to get Wan Tong out of there. The best-case scenario, of course, was for everyone to break out and make it look like the scene was caused by the assassins' prison break, as a cover.

One of the rescued members of the Black Flag mercenary group, who was of a rather burly build, appeared to be the highest-ranking person there. He picked up the sailor's weapon and was about to approach Chen Jing to respectfully inquire about and thank him when Chen Jing interrupted him.

"Break through quickly, or things will change," Chen Jing said in a hoarse voice. He turned around and said the same thing to the ordinary prisoners: "You see, this is an altar. You are not imprisoned or sold into slavery here, but are used as sacrifices. You will die sooner or later."

"Would you rather be killed, or would you rather fight and at least have an escape route?"

After saying that, he stopped talking and stood to the side of the cell, keeping an eye on Wan Tong out of the corner of his eye.

She looked tired, but didn't seem injured. Thank goodness...

Chen Jing suddenly understood why so many people had such strong faith in gods.

If the future is completely unpredictable, causing tension and fear, it's only natural to have faith in God and hope that everything is just a test and that the final outcome will be good.

But the tradition of the ancient Song Dynasty was to believe only in oneself, and the gods worshipped were merely heroes. Chen Jing also noticed the admiring and grateful looks he received from the others who had been captured.

They waited for a hero in their despair.

As people filed out, Chen Jing remained vigilant, not daring to relax for a moment. He worried that the Black Hand might have planted a traitor among the offerings! This was to guard against those attempting to break into the prison, so his hand never left the hilt of his sword. However, the expected outcome did not seem to occur.

It's also possible that the mastermind did indeed plant a spy, but that spy was frightened by Chen Jing and dared not come out.

When he saw Wan Tong come out and pass by him, Chen Jing naturally followed her.
