Chapter Ninety-Seven: The Sorcerer

The faceless cocoon also discovered Chen Jing and his group, and they attacked it before it could make a move.

Bang!

He Lili fired the first shot. The bullet hit the cocoon and bounced off the hard cocoon, leaving a white mark.

This is great news!

This means that the cocoon is not yet at the Qi Realm level!

The cocoon was also fixed in place, without legs or anything, and it seemed unable to move. Just like before, Li Ai rushed in directly, her hands turning into sharp claws, grabbing at the faceless cocoon.

Her sharp claws landed on the cocoon's face and body, but only left a few white marks.

“So hard!” she said.

Chen Jing knew that Li Ai's beast-like claws were different from ordinary claws; they were magical abilities attached to spiritual energy, and in terms of sharpness, they could rival ordinary swords.

How can it be so hard...? Can a cocoon be as hard as armor? Chen Jing was somewhat taken aback.

Chen Jing then prepared to activate the "Eye of Assassination" and use the Xuan Tie Straight Sword "Lone City" to enter. The Xuan Tie Straight Sword is much sharper than an ordinary sword blade, and with the Eye of Assassination that can see weaknesses, Chen Jing was confident that he could break through the defense.

But the faceless cocoon-like figure suddenly emitted an extremely distorted sound, as if it were overlapping.

"Blazing Flames!"

A ring of flames exploded outwards from it, sweeping outwards like a bomb exploding.

Li Ai rolled repeatedly, nimbly dodging most of the flames, but her body was still burned, and even her already simple clothes were burned to tatters.

The flames burned on the maggot-like corpse beside the faceless cocoon, clearing a patch of ground.

The flames came quickly and went quickly, disappearing without causing any collateral burning.

"Celestial Cultivation Realm".

"Warlock."

He Lili and Li Si shouted in succession.

Chen Jing didn't dare to get close. He channeled his spiritual power into a palm lightning bolt that Dao Nan had given him and threw it behind the faceless cocoon, trying to avoid hurting Li Aidan, who was rolling towards the door.

boom!

The explosive palm lightning was quite powerful. Even with the cocoon blocking it, it still had a decent effect. The faceless cocoon let out a painful hiss and did not immediately cast a second spell.

Ta-da!

Wearing armor, Dao Nan rushed to Li Ai's side and slashed at the faceless cocoon with his sword.

He left only a fainter white mark than Li Aidan.

"Damn it! Is this steel?!" Dao Nan cursed, and quickly retreated with Li Aidan. He wasn't as agile as Li Aidan, and if he were hit by the previous spell at close range, he would definitely be either dead or seriously injured.

The maggot-like corpses in the room stood up and lunged at the faceless cocoon.

"Blazing Flames!" The Faceless Cocoon continued to roar, and another ring of flames swept through, burning all the maggot-like corpses to ashes, leaving none standing.

"Scatter!" He Lili commanded as she shot out a bolt of lightning. "Be careful of its area-of-effect spells, and don't stand together."

"Try to suppress it and prevent it from casting spells randomly."

Li Ai let out a roar and pounced again, intending to attack with a combination of pounce and bite, but still only left a few white marks.

Entering the "Eye of Assassination" state, Chen Jing rushed forward. He had already seen that the biggest weakness of this faceless cocoon was the white thin tube connecting its mouth to the maggot-like corpse on the ground!

The straight sword "Lonely City" slashed, breaking through the dissipating flames layer by layer, and struck the thin tube.

Chen Jing felt no resistance and cut the thin tube.

After the white tube was severed, a pale red liquid gushed out, accompanied by the faceless cocoon's agonizing and fearful screams.

Perhaps due to pain, it could no longer cast the spell that brought forth flames.

He Lili fired electric sparks again and again from behind, while Li Si also condensed some kind of sinister red ray and blasted it towards the faceless cocoon.

After several times, the faceless cocoon stopped making a sound.

The blood from the thin tube fell to the ground, flowed onto the other maggot-infested corpses, and slowly disappeared.

"Well done," Li Si said to Chen Jing.

He Lili patted her chest and said, "Luckily, we had a close-quarters encounter. If we had kept our distance and let it cast its spell without us being able to interrupt it, even if we had won, we would have lost many people."

“Peel open its cocoon,” Li Si said. “It can be used as a shield.”

The task of peeling open the cocoon naturally fell to Chen Jing, Dao Nan, and Li Aidan. On the surface, Chen Jing was groping on the cocoon, but in reality, he was using his assassin's eye to find the weak points on the cocoon, and then he used his straight sword to cut an opening, which Li Aidan and Dao Nan then peeled open.

"That's amazing... A cultivator at the Dan Realm with such a cocoon is practically invincible." He Lili, who had nothing else to do, said.

“Indeed,” Li Si agreed. “While normal Dan Realm cultivators can quickly unleash various magical or powerful spells, their bodies are extremely fragile. There is almost no way to overcome this before the Qi Realm. Even if a few cultivators can learn the technique to create pseudo-Qi armor, they are still easily ambushed and killed.”

“We originally had a Dan Realm cultivator on guard on the big ship, but he was killed by the assassin before he could even call for help.”

Chen Jing thought for a moment, but couldn't figure out that the person he killed was a Heavenly Cultivator at the Core Formation Realm. He could only pretend not to hear and continue to unravel the mystery.

"Even cultivators at the Dan Realm can use many defensive spells, so how could they be assassinated?" He Lili asked in confusion.

“There are many reasons,” Li Si analyzed. “First, the ship was extremely vulnerable at the time, and we were all busy capturing the assassin. Second, his position was kept secret for some reason, so none of the rest of us knew about it beforehand and did not provide any assistance. Third, he was quite careless, or perhaps he felt very safe on the ship. Finally, the person who assassinated him was a mysterious cultivator who was very skilled in assassination. We suspect that he was a cultivator at the Core Formation or Blood Realm of Dao Qi.”
