Chapter Thirty-One: Change

Chen Jing made a shushing gesture to Wan Tong and walked step by step towards the room.

He has made up his mind to "show his cards."

Just as they approached, the man yelled in the same shrill voice, "I've already sold this house, and I'll sell you too, so I can raise enough money to get on the Black Hand's ship and leave this place! You know what? They raised the price, it was very high!"

Chen Jing frowned and quickened his pace. The increased price clearly indicated that some of the targets of the blood sacrifice had escaped, while others had died, leaving insufficient numbers.

"Without me, you would all be dead long ago. Alright, come with me, and I'll..."

Chen Jing heard the man's voice disappear, so he rushed in and broke down the door.

Seeing Li Huaxing wiping the sword in his hand, his body covered in blood, still trembling, but the corpse on the ground was already lifeless.

Li Huaxing said in a trembling voice, "Brother Jing, I killed someone..."

"I killed someone."

Chen Jing closed his eyes and said in a gentle voice, "Go and clean yourself up. I'll deal with the body. Your sister is outside, so don't frighten her. Once you're done cleaning, go and bring her in. Then we'll prepare to leave."

Upon hearing the word "sister," Li Huaxing's eyes, which were on the verge of collapse, regained some strength. He recovered from his previous trembling state and nodded firmly.

Chen Jing dragged the corpse, wrapped it in a cloth, and dived into the "dark sea," heading towards the sewer entrance next to it.

Robberies happen almost every day in Ash City, and nobody cares. Corpses are often thrown into the sewers. Although Chen Jing has never done it himself, he has heard a lot about it and has learned a lot.

He carried the body away from the house and saw that the frail Wan Tong was no longer so afraid and trembling. She stood up and walked into the house with some fear.

He sighed silently.

Before taking the body to the sewer, Chen Jing thought for a moment and decided it would be better to disguise it as a robbery and murder. He opened the cloth and began searching the body. He found a bag of gold coins and a dagger on the waist. After confirming that there was nothing else, Chen Jing threw the body in.

Splash! The body fell into the water.

Chen Jing's heart was still quite heavy. He would rather have killed the man himself than have Li Huaxing do it! How old was Li Huaxing? He was young, with a kind, fragile, and sensitive heart, still influenced by the remnants of this world's education. For him to take the initiative to kill someone was such a huge and heavy blow to him! Chen Jing didn't even want to imagine it.

A bitter smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. He had originally thought that by becoming a person with extraordinary abilities and stepping into the threshold of cultivation, he could protect his younger siblings and prevent them from suffering any more harm.

He returned to the house nimbly and saw that his younger brother and sister had already skillfully packed up their belongings and cleaned up the traces. If it weren't for the faint smell of blood, Chen Jing probably wouldn't have been able to tell what had happened there.

Li Huaxing, who had become increasingly silent, seemed to understand something. He gripped the hilt of his sword tightly, his eyes growing ever brighter.

He opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing. Instead, he changed the subject: "Let's move there first. I already have the keys."

Chen Jing had already checked the amount of gold coins and found that it was significantly less than what would be considered a normal sale of the house. It was clearly a fire sale, and the coins might even have been gambled away, making them impossible to redeem.

"Let's move as planned..." Chen Jing sighed.

...

After moving to Uncle Zhang's small house, Chen Jing saw Uncle Zhang on the bed and Zhang Taoying beside him. The room was filled with the heavy smell of medicine being brewed, and Zhang Taoying's face did not look so desperate or heavy.

Chen Jingxian introduced his younger brother and sister to Zhang Taoying, then asked her to look after Wan Tong for the time being. He then took Li Huaxing back to their original room and brought over as many portable and easily moved items as possible.

After several trips back and forth, most of the belongings were finally moved in.

After leaving most of the money and some instructions, Chen Jing took his leave.

Although it was already late, he still had to go to Donglai Pawnshop to find Luo Jiu.

...

Perhaps he was running away? He didn't know how to comfort Li Huaxing. Chen Jing pondered this, wandering through the alleyways of the fledgling area for a while before arriving at a shop. Shops that appraised items like this were not uncommon in the fledgling area, but this one seemed very secluded. Chen Jing had often accompanied the hunting group to sell things, and it was only when he broadened his horizons that he learned about this famous "Donglai Pawnshop."

Donglai Pawnshop only accepts the appraisal and sale of items suspected of being magical artifacts! It is the most high-end shop, directly under the control of the Black Hand!

Scavengers collect items from the city's ruins and sell them in these shops for a meager sum; this is how more than half of the city's population survives.

The entrance was smooth yet interconnected... The entrance was well-hidden, and it seemed that few people knew about this place. Chen Jing stopped in front of a shop that read "Donglai Pawnshop".

The door wasn't closed. As soon as Chen Jing entered, he saw a very messy shop with many old and worn-out artifacts and treasures on the floor. A middle-aged man wearing glasses was at the counter, casually examining an item with a magnifying glass. Only when Chen Jing entered did he look away and ask with slight surprise, "Who are you?"

This middle-aged man had a goatee, a broad face typical of the Blue Dynasty, and many mysterious dark blue symbols on his bald head.

It was Mo Wujiang, whom Chen Jing had met before!

Chen Jing walked over and said, "I am Chen Jing. I was sent by Mr. Luo Jiu."

Mo Wujiang glanced at him: "I hope you're not Luo You in disguise."
