Chapter 237: Thrilling Past Events

Throughout history, whether in troubled times or prosperous times, there have always been people coveting the throne of the emperor.

Or it would be more accurate to say that it was power, as some emperors were just puppets.

The Infantry Commander Miao Fu and the Military Governor Liu Zhengyan coveted the supreme power.

They knew that even if Zhao Huan died, the machinery of the Song Empire would still function. The imperial forces from all over the country and the officials in the capital were all loyal to his Zhao family.

It is impossible to usurp the throne. If these two people became emperors today, they would be chopped to pieces tomorrow by the loyal army to the Zhao family.

The only option was to assist the crown prince in ascending the throne, while he himself would become the Grand Marshal of the Auxiliary State. After all, the crown prince was just a puppet waiting to be fed. He would hold the military power in his hands, and then, under the emperor's orders, he would kill off those who opposed him one by one. Once he had absolute control over everything, he would kick the emperor out of the way, and then he could ascend the throne with impunity.

Even if Li Gang, He Li, and other old-fashioned regents objected, he had military power in his hands, so how could he be afraid of these civil officials' opposition? Moreover, those who wanted to accomplish great things had to take risks, after all, that was the supreme power.

Liu Zhengyan sneered, "We can design a plan to capture Wu Ge and, in his name, transfer the Palace Guards to garrison outside of Jeju City. We can say it's for the emperor's safety, and I'm sure no one will say anything. Then we can lead our men into the palace and force the damn emperor to issue an edict to abdicate the throne to the crown prince and appoint us both as Grand Marshals of the Auxiliary State."

Miao Fu was still a little worried: "What if His Majesty doesn't agree?"

Liu Zhengyan laughed and said, "Hahaha, as long as we break into the palace, it's not up to His Majesty to decide whether to do it or not. We followed the army all the way to fight, and suffered in this cold land in the north. Those generals were rewarded with fiefs. But it's just you and me. This damn emperor only gave us alternate positions. It's clear that he looks down on us."

Miao Fu then said angrily: "This is just too much! Why do you and I have to be bullied by those generals? Yesterday, I went up to greet Si Lao Ma in front of the palace, but he ignored me without even giving me a reason. Why? Because he helped Wu Ge save the emperor. His Majesty gave him the title of General Zhenyuan. This guy walks around with his head held high, and he keeps bragging about his pursuit of the enemy in Jianmen Valley. It makes me fucking mad just watching him!"

Liu Zhengyan whispered: "Be patient, we will always trample these people under our feet and make them bow their heads.

Look up."

Zhao Huan felt terrible, groggy and dizzy, the roof spinning and the ground shaking.

He experienced hallucinations, signs of his illness. His body would alternate between hot and cold. When cold, it felt like falling into an ice cellar; when hot, it felt like falling into a fiery pit.

Li Sisi stayed by his side day and night, her heart sinking to the bottom. She didn't dare cry, fearing she would collapse. She knew that the only way to hope was to hold on.

Nangong Lian'er and Linghu Yunlong ran upstream along the Songwa River. Neither of them dared to delay and rode at full speed.

Linghu Yunlong was well aware of the Nangong family during his travels through the martial arts world. However, as a free-spirited wanderer, he always looked down on the children of such aristocratic families. When he saw Nangong Lian'er gritting her teeth and running without sleep, he couldn't help but admire her.

I have to say that Jingliang Mountain is a nice place, with green mountains, clear waters, waterfalls and flowing springs. The poison doctor Hu Fengzi knows how to enjoy it.

When they reached halfway up the mountain, the main road disappeared and they saw only a very narrow path climbing up the cliff.

Nangong Lian'er and Linghu Yunlong had no choice but to put down their horses and climb up the mountain road.

This path was carved into the wall, and at its narrowest point it was no more than a foot wide. Below it lay a thousand-foot abyss. If the two of them hadn't mastered martial arts, ordinary people wouldn't have been able to make it.

The two of them walked for about half a day and finally reached the top of the mountain. Nangong Lian'er's forehead was already sweating, but for Zhao Huan, she still gritted her teeth and persevered.

After finally turning a corner, the view opened up to a vast expanse of land, towering old trees, and lush green grass. A gurgling stream swayed, and beside it stood a thatched cottage.

The two were overjoyed, thinking that this must be the residence of the poison doctor Hu Fengzi.

The two of them approached side by side and saw that the house was quiet and there was no sign that anyone was living there.

Nangong Lian'er's heart sank. Could it be that Crazy Hu was really dead? If he died here, then there would be no one who could cure His Majesty's illness.

"Your Majesty, there is one thing I don't understand. What is your connection with that crazy Hu?" Linghu Yunlong finally couldn't help asking.

Nangong Lian'er was walking in front of him. When she heard Linghu Yunlong's words, her body trembled for a moment, and then she said quietly: "Since I brought you here, I won't hide it from you. That crazy Hu and my mother are, are..."

Nangong Lian'er bit her lip and finally said, "My mother's name is Bu Siyao, and she is from Bujiazhuang."

Linghu Yunlong was shocked: "Bujiazhuang? Are they the descendants of Bu Qingming, who once followed the Yang family to conquer Liao?"

Nangong Lian'er nodded: "That's my mother's great-grandfather. My mother and Crazy Hu are distant cousins. Crazy Hu grew up in my grandmother's house, and the two of them can be considered childhood sweethearts."

Linghu Yunlong had a vague feeling that there was a story behind this, and sure enough, Nangong Lian'er continued, "Later, my mother met my father. My grandfather arranged for my mother to be married to my father. Crazy Hu, in a rage, poisoned the entire Bujiazhuang village."

Linghu Yunlong was secretly horrified. It turned out that Crazy Hu had a crush on Nangong Niangniang's mother. Her grandfather must have been envious of the Nangong family's power and married his daughter to Nangong Wentian. In his rage, Crazy Hu poisoned the entire village.

However, Linghu Yunlong guessed wrong. Nangong Lian'er continued, "That Crazy Hu likes my mother, but my mother has no romantic feelings for him. My grandfather also saw that although Crazy Hu was a skilled doctor, he also had some bad intentions.
