Chapter 631 Not Twenty

When Yumi wanted to continue teasing, Cheng Shuang stopped her and went to another row of white sheets. This time, she didn't lift them all up, only revealing her head.

A man's face covered in scars appeared before them. The grotesque, pale flesh, devoid of blood, was terrifying and added an indescribable deathly stillness to the lifeless face.

Qianli fell silent, his face turning deathly pale again, and his grip on Cheng Shuang's belt tightened uncontrollably.

Cheng Shuang patted him gently to comfort him, then suddenly looked down sharply, her gaze falling on her waist and abdomen. She saw a pair of fair hands reaching out from both sides and climbing onto her waist.

It was sweaty, with a slightly cool touch.

Qianli was startled and his face changed drastically. He quickly struck at the hands, creating afterimages with each strike. However, instead of knocking the hands away, they only held on tighter.

The little girl had a blank face. She turned to the side and met a pair of big eyes that were filled with tears from holding back her pain.

It turns out that Yumi had somehow retreated behind him again... She's pretty fast.

Qianli also saw Yumi. Before Yumi could settle the score, he took his hand back, looked away uncomfortably, and instead grabbed Cheng Shuang's wrist.

Cheng Shuang ignored the two's little schemes. She led her two little followers to the foot of the bed and found the deceased's information in the files hanging there.

—Abudu, male, 37 years old, cause of death: fighting, penetrating chest, serial number: Shang-1639.

Cheng Shuang's gaze swept over the row of mortuary cabinets again, and she silently counted the number of cabinets. There were forty drawers in total, which matched the number of corpses in the two rows.

She walked over and tried to open one of the drawers. As her fingers touched the cabinet, gusts of cold air escaped through her gloves. Her eyes darkened slightly, and she was already mentally prepared to see a corpse. However, when she opened the drawer, a cold mist billowed out, but it was empty.

The two children who were following closely behind her relaxed, but when Cheng Shuang spoke, they froze again as if frozen.

"It seems we should try sending the body in."

What should I give as a gift?

Where should it be sent?

Who delivered it?

The two looked at each other, their expressions of confusion exactly the same as the ultimate philosophical meme: Who am I? Where am I? What am I supposed to do?

They stared at Cheng Shuang in disbelief, only to receive a curt lie from the girl: "These are all fantasies, they're fake. Hugging them is no different than hugging a rock blocking your way!"

A stone blocking the way = a cold, hard corpse...that seems to make sense...bullshit!

The two of them expressed the same sentiment: Don't try to fool me, I'm still young and shouldn't have to endure the harshness of society!

Since it is a societal punishment, it does not discriminate based on age.

So Cheng Shuang ruthlessly ignored their protests and gave each of them a pair of gloves.

The two, utterly distraught, resignedly put on gloves and began moving the body.

Yumi wanted to throw a tantrum, but neither of her two friends would fall for it. She silently sniffed and diligently carried the body into the freezer.

Cheng Shuang inserted the data card into the groove on the cabinet door.

She noticed that the corpses' shoulders were exposed. Could it be that Yumi's actions offended the dignity of the corpses, causing the corpses in the first row to collectively flee?

To verify her suspicions, she went to the second corpse, lifted a bit of the white sheet at the foot of the bed, and a pair of mutilated, naked legs were revealed.

Yumi instinctively gagged and quickly turned her head away, almost holding her breath.

Qianli managed to restrain himself, but he didn't dare let his eyes fall on the corpse's mottled calves.

"Let's continue! Don't tear up the order."

When the two children saw Cheng Shuang push the cart over and lift the head of the corpse that they dared not touch, they finally hardened their hearts and continued to lift the corpse with their eyes closed.

Perhaps out of sheer terror, the three children carried a row of twenty corpses, each with a different appearance, into the freezer in one go, as if they were filing them out.

Moving to the very end, from avoiding it to being completely exhausted, Chisato and Yumi's facial expressions were numb. If a ghost really appeared, the two children's first reaction would probably not be to run away in fear, but to rush over and question it.

Why can't we wait for an adult to do this manual labor and give it to them? This isn't how you use cheap child labor!

"Be prepared." Cheng Shuang breathed a sigh of relief. Because of the excessive force, her face was pale, and she exuded an aura of 'I'm unhappy and I don't want to talk to anyone'.

"What do you mean?" Exhausted, Qianli almost jumped up. He looked at his childhood sweetheart in a daze and saw her leaning against the freezer. Her slightly lowered peach blossom eyes raised a brow, which inexplicably gave people a chill. Her usually rosy lips were pale and white. When she smiled, although it was still the same sweet curve, it had a twisted and sickly feel to it.

Following her gaze, the two children stiffly turned their necks and looked back. The first row of stretchers, which should have been empty, was now filled with silent corpses. The skin of the corpses was pale and bluish-purple, some with disfigured faces, some with grotesque death expressions. In short, it was as if they had always been there and had never disappeared.

The two children's pupils contracted sharply, and they took a step back in shock, their backs slamming hard against the freezer with a loud thud.

No one felt any pain; they just stared wide-eyed at the twenty corpses without blinking.

“Not twenty bodies.” Cheng Shuang walked over and saw a white sheet completely covering the middle stretcher bed, but without any curves or undulations of the body. She lifted the sheet and found that the head area was still blank.

She picked up the information card and looked at it; it had the number: 上-8911.
