Qianli's intentions were good, but reality was cruel.

Cheng Shuang's situation was much worse than theirs; she was essentially surrounded by two groups of corpses.

Yumi was lucky, though. She fainted from fright and fell backward, but Chisato didn't catch her. Instead, her head hit the freezer, which woke her up in pain.

After this ordeal, Yumi finally developed some resistance. Her face turned pale with fear, and her expression was so terrified that it became extremely distorted. Fortunately, she didn't faint; instead, she hugged herself and shrank into a corner.

"Don't come any closer!" Cheng Shuang couldn't let Qianli, who was powerless, recklessly run into the center of the encirclement. She rolled on the spot, dodging the corpse's hands again, and threw the talisman between her fingertips.

The talisman was placed on the corpse's forehead, and a wisp of black smoke rose from it, causing the corpse to stop abruptly.

Now that Cheng Shuang had pointed out the direction, Qianli immediately perked up. He knew he didn't have anything to offer, and he couldn't help his friend or hold him back. Just as Cheng Shuang had predicted, the stiffening of the corpse's muscles was a slow process. The back might still be able to bend a little, but if it wanted to fall down, it could only get up straight, and the knees were the first to lose the ability to bend.

Even if they still have elasticity, these zombie-like corpses don't mean they can crawl; otherwise, the corpse that just fell down would have already reached her ankles.

"I have to try!" Realizing her tone was inappropriate, Chisato wiped her face, her expression almost tearful. "I can't watch Yuko suffer because of me... I have to try!"

Mentioning Yuko, Yumi bit her lip and calmed down. She looked up at the snow-white ceiling and said in a dry voice, "But... it's a single unit, without any ventilation ducts."

Qianli let out a sob and turned his head away. He knew perfectly well what was going on, but he couldn't just stand by and let his friend risk her life alone. He would rather jump down and be with her. But reason told Qianli that it was no use; he was too weak to do anything.

Yumi sat dejectedly on top of the freezer, looking at the empty corpses in front of her. In a fit of anger, she took off her shoes and slapped the hands that had reached over the edge, but this painless action had no effect on the corpses' movements.

Unable to reach the two people, the scattered corpses began to gradually shift their target, jumping towards Cheng Shuang, who was hiding under the stretcher.

Cheng Shuang carried the talisman, remaining constantly vigilant. She wouldn't resort to firearms unless absolutely necessary, as special submachine guns were extremely rare.
