Chapter 179 Little Wolf Meets the Saint

Few things that happen in the palace can remain unknown to Emperor Kangxi, if he so desires.

Hongming was already six years old, while Hongyan was only two years old. Despite the obvious disparity in strength, Hongyan surprisingly came out on top. This unusual event once again drew Kangxi's attention to the children in Yinzhen's household.

So when Yinzhen heard the Emperor's decree the next day that he wanted to see Xiaolang, his first thought was that Honghui, that brat, had said something to the Emperor.

When the father and son met, they both looked completely bewildered. It was then that Yinzhen realized something had happened in the palace that he was unaware of.

Upon hearing Yi Hua's explanation, Yi Hua suddenly realized what had happened and then recounted the conflict that had occurred at the Fourteenth Prince's residence: "It was all because I wasn't careful enough. It was just a quarrel between two children, but I never expected it to alarm the Emperor."

"Your Majesty punished you by making you copy scriptures?" Yinzhen asked Yihua an unexpected question.

“It can’t really be called a punishment. I used to practice calligraphy for an hour every day anyway, but now the calligraphy copybook has just been replaced with Buddhist scriptures. Your Majesty has never criticized my handwriting. It’s my blessing that Your Majesty is willing to use the scriptures I copied to offer to Buddha,” Yihua quickly said. Although Yinzhen was distant from Consort De, he probably wouldn’t want to hear others speak ill of Consort De.

“It takes two to tango. Little Wolf may be at fault, but Hongming is definitely not innocent. Since Your Highness is biased, I will get revenge for you.” Yinzhen had no objection to Consort De punishing Yihua. She was already considered a mother-in-law who didn’t torment her daughter-in-law. But what he always needed was fairness, especially when it came to the Fourteenth Prince.

"You're joking, sir. With this lesson learned, Hongming will definitely avoid the little wolf next time."

Yinzhen smiled and said, "What are you thinking? It is the father's fault if he does not raise his children properly. I will only reason with the Fourteenth Prince about this matter."

"Alright," Yi Hua nodded with a smile. The food chain had already been formed, with Consort De, Yinzhen, and the Fourteenth Prince forming a tightly closed loop.

The next day, Yinzhen brought the little wolf into the palace.

The little wolf had new clothes to wear today and rode in a carriage with his brother and father. He was extremely happy, smiling all the way, making everyone who saw him feel carefree.

Honghui fed him some snacks: "Father, the Emperor will like your little brother."

Yinzhen had no doubt about this. Hongyan was a very cheerful child. He was almost never heard to cry. Every day when he returned to the main courtyard, his voice was heard before he was seen. He was a natural optimist.

Sure enough, after the court session, Emperor Kangxi noticed a tiny, three-headed figure standing at the entrance of the Hall of Mental Cultivation, sitting on the doorframe and looking into the room.

"Hongyan?" Kangxi called softly.

The little wolf reacted for a moment. He now knew that he was Hongyan, so he turned to face the emperor. However, he was dressed in too many clothes today, so he couldn't take a step and knelt on the ground.

At this moment, remembering his mother's instructions from yesterday, he immediately pressed his little body to the ground and said in a childish voice, "Little wolf, oh no, Hongyan greets Grandfather."

Because he had just learned the name "Huangmafa," he spoke it somewhat haltingly, and it took Kangxi careful listening to confirm that he was being addressed.

Yinzhen followed behind Kangxi and saw his youngest son lying on the ground like a twisted rope. He wanted to cover his face and leave.

The Crown Prince glanced at Yinzhen and said with a smile, "Whose child is this? So adorable."

Liang Jiugong quickly stepped forward, picked up the child, and the group went into the house.

“Hongyan has been disrespectful before the Emperor, please forgive him, Father Emperor.” Yinzhen knelt down first to beg for forgiveness.

Emperor Kangxi was in a good mood and waved for him to get up: "You're always apologizing, thankfully Honghui isn't like you. Come, carry Hongyan up here."

"I've heard you're naturally strong. Is what Grandfather said true?" Kangxi asked, seeing that his grandson was very well-fed, with visible folds of flesh on his body.

Hongyan didn't quite understand, and just looked at Kangxi with his big, puzzled eyes.

"You are very strong," Kangxi said briefly.

Hong Yan clenched his fist: "You're strong!"

As he spoke, he waved his hand up and down, which made Yinzhen, who was watching from the side, break out in a cold sweat. He was afraid that the child would punch Kangxi.

"Really? I don't believe it. Unless you can break it open with your bare hands." Kangxi took an apple from the fruit plate; he had clearly investigated the wolf cub beforehand.

The little wolf remembered that his mother forbade him to do so, so he looked up in the direction of Yinzhen and saw his father nod, so he smiled happily.

Then, with a seemingly light tap, the apple juice splashed all over Kangxi's face.

Yinzhen immediately knelt down again. He only knew that something would happen today, but he did not expect it to be so thrilling.

Kangxi casually wiped his mouth, looked at the apple that had been flattened, and praised, "Good! This boy is indeed quite strong."

"Fourth Prince, you have raised two excellent sons," Kangxi casually praised, seemingly oblivious to the sudden change in the Crown Prince's expression.

“Your nickname is Little Wolf, which is quite fitting.” Kangxi nodded and continued chatting with him. “You’re so strong, you must have a big appetite.”

"Eat, eat." The little wolf heard the key word and clapped his hands happily. Kangxi was amused by him. Indeed, the sincerity of children is the most adorable.

"Fourth Prince, this child is a gem, don't let him go to waste." Kangxi said this, and then asked Liang Jiugong to put him down so that he could play freely in the Hall of Mental Cultivation, while he talked with the Crown Prince.

The little wolf obediently walked behind Yinzhen, holding onto his robe without moving, and didn't run around the room at all.

Emperor Kangxi nodded. This child was very well-educated by the fourth prince; he was only two years old but already knew a lot about manners.

Yinzhen's heartbeat gradually calmed down.

"I vaguely remember hearing that one of your princesses had a miscarriage," Kangxi suddenly asked.

The Crown Prince remained unfazed: "Father, it is true that Consort Lin is unfortunate."
