Chapter 1 Shocking! Transmigrated into the Wife of an Educated Youth

Lin Yue felt as if she had been swept into a giant vortex, her body spinning and falling uncontrollably in the darkness. All around her was chaos, with all sorts of noises whistling past her ears, yet she couldn't make them out. She desperately tried to grab onto something, but all she could find was endless void.

After an unknown amount of time, the dizzying feeling gradually dissipated, and Lin Yue slowly opened her eyes. Blinding sunlight streamed in through a small window, and she instinctively raised her hand to shield her eyes, her consciousness gradually returning. However, the scene that greeted her eyes made her heart sink.

The earthen walls, the earthen bed, the ceiling covered with yellowed old newspapers, and the stale, smoky smell permeating the air—everything seemed so unfamiliar. Lin Yue suddenly sat up, a sharp pain shooting through her head, like countless steel needles piercing it. At the same time, memories that weren't hers surged towards her like a tidal wave.

She was Lin Yue, but not the same Lin Yue who was a post-90s female military doctor. Now, she was a sent-down youth's wife in this small village, and her husband was Chen Yu, also a sent-down youth from the city. Lin Yue rubbed her temples, trying to relieve the pain, while also trying to accept this unbelievable reality.

She looked around; the room was so small and shabby it was heartbreaking. In the corner, a worn-out table, its surface uneven and pitted, held several rough porcelain bowls and a thermos with peeling paint, seemingly telling tales of bygone years. The wooden trunk beside the bed looked quite old; a few patched clothes were haphazardly draped over its lid. She herself wore rough cotton clothes, old-fashioned in style and a somber color, much like the atmosphere of the room.

"What on earth is going on?" Lin Yue murmured, a hint of panic in her voice. She remembered working the night shift at the military hospital, so how did she end up in this godforsaken place after waking up? Could it really be like in the novels where they time-travel? This thought sent a wave of panic through her.

Just then, the door creaked open, and a figure appeared in the doorway. Lin Yue looked up and saw a young man. He was tall and imposing, wearing a faded blue cotton shirt and black trousers with two obvious patches at the knees. The stitching on the patches looked rough, suggesting he had sewn them himself. His face was sharply defined, with deep, bright eyes beneath his arched eyebrows, but at this moment, those eyes held a restraint and a hint of barely perceptible unfamiliarity. This was Chen Yu, her current "husband."

The two stared at each other for a moment, the atmosphere so awkward it felt like it could freeze. Chen Yu broke the silence first, clearing his throat and speaking somewhat uncomfortably, "You...you're awake? How are you feeling? Is anything bothering you?" His voice was deep and magnetic, carrying a hint of concern, but the slight sense of unfamiliarity hadn't completely faded.

Lin Yue looked at the man in front of her, who was both familiar and unfamiliar, and was momentarily at a loss. She opened her mouth, but something seemed to be stuck in her throat. After a long while, she managed to squeeze out a sentence: "I...I'm fine."

Chen Yu nodded slightly, walked into the house, and placed a basket on the table. "This is some cornbread and wild vegetable soup that the team distributed. Have some. There's work to do in the team today, so I have to go now." With that, he turned to leave.

"Wait!" Lin Yue called out to him instinctively. Chen Yu turned around, looking at her with a puzzled expression. Lin Yue took a deep breath and mustered her courage to ask, "Where is this? How...how did we get here?"

Chen Yu frowned, a hint of worry in his eyes. He took a step closer and looked at Lin Yue, saying, "Are you confused from the fall? This is the village we're working in, don't you remember? If you're really not feeling well, you should rest. I'll go tell the team leader."

Lin Yue knew she couldn't act too strangely, or it might cause unnecessary trouble. She quickly shook her head, "No, I'm fine. I'm probably just a little groggy from just waking up."

Chen Yu looked at her, seemingly disbelieving, but still nodded. "Then you get some rest, I'm leaving." With that, he walked out of the house, closing the door behind him.

Lin Yue sat on the bed, her mind reeling. She stared at the cornbread and wild vegetable soup on the table, her stomach churning. This coarse food was worlds apart from the refined delicacies she ate in modern times. She hesitated for a moment, then went over and picked up a cornbread, taking a bite. The rough texture and faint bitterness immediately filled her mouth, and she almost vomited. But she knew that in this era of scarcity, this was a precious food for the villagers, and she had to adapt.

After managing to eat a few bites of cornbread and drink some wild vegetable soup, Lin Yue felt she had regained some strength. She decided to go out and explore this unfamiliar environment. She stepped out of the house; the yard was small, the ground compacted earth, with a few unknown weeds growing in some places. There was a simple stove in the yard, with some firewood piled up next to it. The firewood looked haphazard, of varying sizes, clearly not carefully arranged.

Lin Yue stepped out of the courtyard. Outside was a narrow dirt road lined with rows of similar adobe houses. Smoke curled from the chimneys, filling the air with the smell of burning firewood and animal manure. Villagers passed by occasionally, their simple clothes, patched upon patched, a defining characteristic of the era. When they saw Lin Yue, their eyes held a mixture of curiosity and scrutiny, and whispers reached her ears.

"Is this Chen's new daughter-in-law? She's pretty, but I wonder if she can do any work."

"The educated youth from the city, with their delicate skin and tender flesh, can they endure our hardships?"
