Chapter 4 Whoever makes a mistake should take responsibility

Yi Yami slowly opened her eyes, her thoughts gradually becoming clearer. She recalled the events of the past, how the eldest and third sons of the Yi family had turned into fireballs and burned their fields for her, and how they had fought with this so-called father, leading to the separation of their family. She felt a surge of emotion in her heart.

She sat on the edge of the bed, rubbed her temples with her hands, and tried to wake herself up.

Old Mrs. Yi walked in, "Xiaomi, are you awake?"

"Grandma, grandma..." Yiyami looked at this kind old woman. She knew that she was not the same person as her modern grandma, but she couldn't help but call her grandma.

"Oh, my poor granddaughter..." Old Mrs. Yi hugged her and murmured.

"Grandma, it's all my fault, but don't worry, grandma, whoever makes the mistake will bear the responsibility. I will make back the losses as soon as possible." Yiyami patted his chest with a solemn promise.

Old Lady Yi obviously didn't believe it, and she said jokingly with a smile, "Oh, stop talking in your sleep, child..."

Yiyami knew that no one would believe whatever he said, so he simply stopped arguing.

"You should rest for a while. Your mother and I are going to the fields to check again." Old Mrs. Yi tucked the corner of the quilt for Yi Yami.

Yi Yami nodded. After Old Lady Yi left, she began to look around the house.

It was a shabby little house, the thatch on the roof was so tattered it fell off in the wind. The walls were made of loess and had many cracks in them, letting in both wind and rain.

The paper covering the windows was tattered, unable to keep out the cold wind. Inside, there was only a simple wooden bed covered with worn-out bedding that looked like it hadn't been changed in a long time. Although worn, it was very clean, and it was obvious that the owner was a clean person.

There was a small table beside the bed, on which were placed a broken bowl and a lamp that was almost out of oil.

The floor was dirt, uneven and full of potholes. The whole room was filled with a musty and damp smell, making people feel depressed and uncomfortable.

Yi Yami held her forehead in her hand, and couldn't help but complain in her heart, "Oh my god, this family is so poor that it's unimaginable. It's only the beginning of autumn, and it's a bit freezing. I really don't know what they will do when winter comes. Listening to their arguments, it seems that all their income depends on that one acre of land. Now that the land is burned, I guess life will be even more difficult for this family."

Thinking of this, she couldn't help but want to blame her ancestors, "Ancestors...you...really...I...ah..." She wanted to curse but stopped herself from saying it.

She touched her head and found the bronze spatula hairpin was still there, and her nervous heart immediately calmed down.

"Don't panic...it's not a big deal..." Yiyami comforted herself.

At this time, there was a rustling sound coming from outside the house, and Yiyami looked up.

I saw a little boy in ragged clothes, patched so thick they were no longer visible. The clothes hung loosely on his thin frame, as if they might fall off at any moment. His pants were too short, revealing his thin ankles. His shoes were so worn that only two toes were visible.

At this moment, he was carefully holding a bowl of thin rice soup and walking in with unsteady steps.

"This should be my younger brother..." Yiyami thought to herself.

Yi Xiaomai's eyes were filled with determination and concern, and she held the edge of the bowl tightly with both hands, fearing that the rice soup would spill out.

After slowly walking to Yi Yami's side, she handed the bowl to her, her eyes full of expectation and longing. A tender voice sounded: "Sister, this is the rice soup that mother made for you, drink it quickly. Mother said that you will feel better after drinking it."

Yi Yami was very thirsty, so she took it, said thank you, and started drinking it in small sips. Yi Xiaomai lowered her head but couldn't help staring at the rice soup.

After taking a few sips, Yi Yami noticed his look and handed him the bowl. "I'm full. Here you go."

Yi Xiaomai's eyes widened. "Really? Sister, don't lie to me..."

Yi Yami smiled and reached out to touch Yi Xiaomai's head. Her hair was dry and frizzy, but it felt good to the touch. "Sister, when have I ever lied to you..."

After hearing this, Yi Xiaomai thought for a moment and said, "No, my sister never lied to me."

Yi Xiaomai held the bowl and looked at Yi Yami again, "Sister, are you really not going to drink it?"

Yi Yami looked at the rice soup in the bowl, which had almost no rice grains. She felt sad but didn't know what to say. She nodded and said, "Drink it. I'm really full."

"Sister, this rice soup is so delicious!" Yi Xiaomai drank it in one breath and couldn't help licking the bowl to savor the taste.

"...Sister, I will let you eat more delicious food in the future." After hearing this, Yi Yami couldn't help but touch Yi Xiaomai's head.

Yi Xiaomai looked at Yi Yami, her eyes revealing a hint of confusion, "Sister, you seem to have changed. You were not like this before..."

Yiyami had a headache. How...how to explain that she was not their Yiyami?

"What's changed?" Yiyami spoke to him softly.

"Ajie used to be a very timid person. She didn't dare to say much, and there was always a layer of fog in her eyes. But now Ajie is different. She talks a lot to Xiaomai now, and she also says that she will give Xiaomai a lot of delicious food. Ajie's eyes are bright now, different from before..." Yi Xiaomai said while staring into Yiyami's eyes and gesturing.

Yi Yami smiled when she heard this and said, "Xia Xiaomai, I don't know what's going on...but I can't remember anything about the past..."

"It's all Wu Liang from Aunt Wu's family who caused all this trouble! If he hadn't pushed my sister into the water, she wouldn't have died..." Yi Xiaomai seemed to be remembering something painful, and tears suddenly flowed out.
