The King of Black Fog

"The situation is turning grim," one said.

"Hasn't it always been like this?" came the reply.

Chapter Sixteen: Planetary Indigenous Peoples

A long, pinkish-flesh-colored tongue shot out like a spring, following closely behind Yang Qinglan as she retreated.

The owner of the tongue is unseen, as if a mouth had suddenly grown out of a rock.

He picked up the AK and unleashed a torrent of flames.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" The deafening sounds echoed through the canyon.

Rock dust splashed from the cliff face, and ripples rippled across the surface of the puddle.

With a whoosh, the tongue disappeared into the cliff face, and a piece of rock began to move, as fast as lightning.

“Qianxia! Wolf howl!” Li Changzhou shouted.

Li Qianxia let out a howl to the sky, a display of the wolf king's power!

Rocky trembled, like a player controlling a game character who suddenly left to go to the toilet, leaving it there motionless.

With a series of thuds, the bullets struck like venomous snakes.

Blood and flesh splattered as a four-legged snake, about the length of Li Changzhou's forearm, detached from the rock and fell onto the red ground of the canyon.

The lizard was cut in half at the waist, and its color gradually changed from the color of the rock to pure black.

"Qinglan, are you alright?" Li Qianxia pulled her chin back and quickly went to help Yang Qinglan up.

"It's nothing." Yang Qinglan shook her head, her heart beating very fast.

Fortunately, she put all two attribute points into her perception skill.

Even so, her perception level of 7 was still high enough that she only noticed something was wrong with the cliff face after getting close.

"That's terrifying! This chameleon was actually lying in ambush above the puddle!" Li Qianxia's heart was pounding with fear.

What if my brother was the first to go for a drink of water? Wouldn't he already be dead?

She thought of something and asked, "How can such a small chameleon kill someone? Is it poisonous?"

“I don’t know,” Yang Qinglan recalled the scene at the time. “The tongue was aimed at my eyes. It could have been poisoned, or it could have been used to stick people’s eyes out alive.”

Li Qianxia blinked unconsciously, her bright eyes conveying fear.

“Many animals like to lie in ambush at watering spots, such as crocodiles and eagles.” Zheng Qing looked around, her whole body on high alert.

"Hey, look."

The three looked in the direction of Li Changzhou's voice and saw that the corpse, which they couldn't tell was either a chameleon or a gecko, had turned into a tail that had been broken in two.

Its tail was still moving, as if there was life inside.

“I know about cutting off the tail to survive, but what I hit was clearly its main body.” Li Changzhou kicked the tail with his foot.

"We can no longer judge this world using the same old common sense." Yang Qinglan's tone was heavy, as if she were speaking to him, or perhaps talking to herself.

"Yes, and that snake that kept getting bigger and smaller!" Li Qianxia had a deep impression of that scene.

“There’s a saying at the Chinese Academy of Sciences,” Zheng Qing recalled, “that says, ‘We who try to summarize the rules of the universe using phenomena from one planet are utterly insular.’”

The gunshots and wolf howls that echoed through the canyon finally subsided into silence, as if they had faded into the distance.

The sudden silence carried an eerie atmosphere.

"Let's have some water first," Yang Qinglan sighed. "This animal, which I don't know if it's a gecko or a chameleon, is guarding here, which proves that there are no other contestants nearby for the time being."
