Chapter 22 Team Building

Chris said goodbye to Nuhra, and walked briskly back to the dormitory with the still warm muffin box in his hand.

The iris recognition system passed, and the dormitory door slowly opened. In the hallway, Chris vaguely heard Lauren sitting on the sofa, chatting with another person.

"Lauren..." Chris warned, worried that he might accidentally disturb Lauren. As soon as he finished speaking, the two people sitting on the sofa turned around and looked at him.

In addition to Chris's roommate Lauren, there was another familiar face - Ian Harville from the Information and Communications Department.

"Hi!" Ian was having a great chat with Lauren. When he saw Chris coming back, he turned around and greeted him warmly.

"Ian? Why are you here?" A look of surprise flashed across Chris's face. He put the muffin on the bar, "I happened to bring some muffins. Come and have some together."

Ian's eyes lit up as he walked over, shouting, "Wow, man, you're so nice! The pancakes from this restaurant have always been very popular on StarNet!"

"Really?" Chris had no idea. When he heard Nuhra say she was going to take him out for dinner, he just followed her... He didn't care what the restaurant was like.

"Hmm!" Ian didn't seem to care much about where the muffin came from, he was just waiting to eat it.

Lauren brought a pot of fruit tea prepared for Ian from the sofa to the bar, and the robotic arm brought an unused teacup for Chris.

"We can have muffins with tea." Lauren smiled faintly and considerately poured tea for the other two.

Chris opened the tightly wrapped muffin, and the sweet aroma immediately filled the dormitory. They quickly divided the muffin into three equal portions and enjoyed it quietly. For a moment, the only sound in the dormitory was the soft clink of cutlery.

Ian swallowed a large piece of pancake and took a gulp of tea before he finally had time to respond to Chris's original question: "I've been wanting to discuss this with you for the past few days. Should we team up together?"

"What team?" Chris was confused for a moment, and Lauren kindly explained, "It's about Admiral Nuhra's course. We need to form a team..."

"Oh, I see... So you are in the same class?" Chris suddenly realized and was quite interested in Ian's suggestion.

"Yeah, I saw you from afar that day... Then I asked which dormitory you were in, so I wanted to come and ask in person." Ian shrugged and said casually.

"Nuhra... Professor, are there any specific requirements for forming a team? For example, what is the ratio of students in each department within the team?" These days, Chris has been busy training, reading, and daydreaming at Nuhra's house, and has hardly opened the terminal.

Upon hearing this, Lauren found an email in the teaching mailbox and enlarged it in holographic form so that Chris could read it.

"The total number of people should not exceed five... one or two combat department trainees, one or two medical logistics department trainees..." Chris read out the requirements in a low voice at a glance.

"There's also a student from the Information and Communications Department, so I actually plan to recommend myself." Ian added the last condition, staring at Chris and Lauren with anticipation.

"I just found out that Lauren is from the Medical Logistics Department... If the three of us form a team, the team will be formed quickly!" Ian looked a little excited.

Chris thought more about it. He noticed Lauren was silent and worried that Lauren was unwilling, so he took the initiative to ask, "Lauren, what do you think?"

"Ah, well... I think it's a good idea. If we team up together, we can look after each other." Lauren was suddenly called and was startled. She then nodded slightly in response, and it seemed that she also supported the proposal to form a team.

One problem solved, but others were waiting. Kris immediately raised other equally important questions: "Do we need to find other team members? Oh... and how is our physical training going?"

"I think we might need a student from the Medical Logistics Department," Lauren said weakly when no one else spoke up. "Because I have no experience in logistics management and have always majored in medicine."

"I agree." Ian nodded, then told me some bad news. "Well, I should probably explain in advance that my physical training results in the past two academic years haven't been very good—I mean, barely passing."

After saying this, Lauren and Ian turned their hopeful gazes to the only combat student in front of them, Chris.

Kris suddenly felt a headache and helplessly spread his hands, saying, "Unfortunately, my training results are at the bottom of the combat department."

For a moment, the three of them looked at each other, feeling a huge pressure.

In the end, it was Chris who made the final decision. "We need two more members, one from the Operations Department and one from the Medical Logistics Department...but who can we find?"

"I don't know many people in other departments," Ian said, looking embarrassed and hesitant for a moment, "but I can post the recruitment information on the intranet."

"Okay, thank you for your help." Chris patted Ian's shoulder in a friendly manner to express his gratitude.

He thought for a moment, then turned to Lauren and asked, "Lauren, what is your classmate, Margaret King, majoring in?"

"She seems to be in the logistics department." Lauren thought for a moment and answered affirmatively, "I'll ask her right away!" Lauren picked up the terminal anxiously, ready to send a text message to Margaret.

"If Margaret joins the team, we'll still be one teammate short." Ian was optimistic and began to imagine their team dominating the class in the future.

"We're still short of one more student from the Operations Department..." Kris frowned, his expression distressed. It was already clear that the three of them were weak in combat, so the last remaining member had to be strong enough to avoid a disastrous defeat.

Speaking of sufficiently strong combat cadets, Chris could only think of the pink-haired Joan Davis. However, he had no idea whether Joan had chosen this course, and he had no confidence that Joan would look up to their makeshift team...

Chris sighed and decided to give it a try.

"I have a candidate, but she may not be willing to join us..." Corris' tone was full of uncertainty.

"Now that things have come to this, I have to try any candidate I can..." Ian pulled himself away from his beautiful fantasy and couldn't help but sigh at the harsh reality.

The three of them briefly discussed whether there were any other candidates, and then ate the entire pancake. It wasn't until the intelligent system reminded them that it was getting late that they dispersed.

Chris casually took a sonic bath in the bathroom, changed into pajamas and lay down on the bed, falling asleep with a heavy heart. His last thought before falling asleep was: Let's go to the training ground tomorrow to see if I can run into Joan...

The next morning, with the bright morning light, a new week began.

Having learned his lesson from the first day of school, Chris didn't dare to do it again. He jumped out of bed as soon as the alarm clock rang.

He quickly packed up his personal affairs and left the dormitory. There was still plenty of time, so Chris walked calmly to the classroom.

There were not many people in the classroom when Corey arrived, but considering that Lorivon inexplicably targeted him, Corey suddenly felt as uncomfortable as if he had eaten a fly, and wished to stay as far away from him as possible.

Lori Feng came to class just as the bell rang. After entering the classroom, he looked around first, and after exchanging a glance with Chris, who was sitting in the last row of the classroom, he looked away in disappointment.

Chris just thought it was funny. He didn't forget that Lowry was finding fault with him intentionally or unintentionally. He was trying his best to prevent the malicious professor from finding any fault with him.

Lowry didn't ask Chris to answer questions this class, but the glances he'd occasionally cast at him were hard to ignore. It even made the students on either side of Chris shift uncomfortably, not wanting to be dragged into the situation.

The class ended, and Chris left through the back door without stopping. The next class was Nuhra's... Chris squeezed the terminal in his hand, suppressing the anticipation that welled up in his heart.

They sat in the same seat as last time, this time with Ian. Margaret smiled politely and waved at him.

Chris relaxed and smiled at his friends. He sat down in the empty seat between Lauren and Margaret and said hello: "Good afternoon, everyone."

"We are all in the same team, so there's no need to be so polite." Margaret brushed the hair behind her ears and winked mischievously.

"That's great!" Chris looked surprised, then smiled more sincerely.

"With Margaret, we are now just missing a student from the Operations Department, and then we can successfully form a team!" Ian clenched his fist excitedly, looking very excited.

Speaking of this, Kris's smile froze for a moment, and he felt a headache. He sighed, "I haven't had time to look for that classmate yet..."

"Is that so?" Margaret glanced at the serious-looking boys and said slowly, "Lauren told me last night that I have a friend in the Warfare Department who's also enrolled in this class... We can ask her when she gets here."

Chris noticed that there was an empty seat next to Margaret in the aisle, which must have been reserved for her friend.

"Margaret, who is your friend?" Lauren became nervous. He was not very good at socializing with people, especially girls.

"You'll find out in a moment," Margaret said with a mysterious smile. "I guarantee that she's definitely the best in the Operations Department."

It was almost time for class, and Margaret's friend still hadn't shown up. Ian was getting impatient, but he looked around and saw that Lauren, who was closest to him, was already in a trance. Margaret wasn't worried at all, and Chris looked calm and composed.

"She's here," Margaret said in a low voice, and their eyes all turned to the main entrance of the auditorium. A familiar figure - with pink braids and large silver earrings dangling from her ears - was Joan Davis.

The corner of Corris' mouth twitched: "Margaret, the friend you are talking about, could it be...?!"

Ian and Lauren had already crashed, their mouths hanging open, their minds distracted, unable to speak.

Margaret looked calm and spoke freely: "Yes, Joan and I have been friends since we were little."

Apparently, there were quite a few people here who knew Joan Davis. Many people in the auditorium fell silent, watching as Joan walked towards the empty seat next to Margaret...

"Good day, Maggie." Joan raised her lips slightly to greet Margaret. "And Krisner, right?"

Chris was the first to react, his heart pounding with joy. It was such a piece of cake! He hadn't expected Margaret and Joan to be childhood friends, and he hadn't expected Joan to remember him!

"Yes." No matter how happy he was in his heart, Chris still maintained a reserved and polite attitude and nodded in response, "Nice to see you again, Joan."

"Joan Davis, who are these two?" Joan was not as unapproachable as she seemed. She took the initiative to talk to Ian and Lauren who were still in a daze.

"...I must be dreaming," Ian said, his voice trembling as if he had just woken up from a dream. "Lauren, pinch me."

Lauren also reacted and introduced shyly, "Hello, I'm Lauren Wyatt from the Medical Logistics Department, and this is Ian Harville from the Information Logistics Department."

Joan raised an eyebrow and was silent for a moment before sitting down in the reserved seat. She turned to Margaret and asked again and again, "Is this the excellent teammate you were talking about?"

The three boys, led by Chris: "..."

Why did they subtly feel that Qiong vaguely disliked them?
