Chapter 26 Boredom
Because of Chris's sudden illness, today's training plan came to an end. Joan briefly gave everyone some advice, and everyone dispersed.
Chris's legs were shaking and he needed someone to support him so that he could walk steadily on the road. Lauren acted as Chris's temporary crutch.
Margaret and Joan left together in another direction, and Ian followed behind Chris and Lauren, carrying Chris's backpack.
They walked slowly along the school road toward the shuttle bus stop. Before they had gone far, two horns blew behind them.
At first, Ian thought the car honked to let them pass, so he reminded the two people in front. Unexpectedly, the hover car just passed by slowly and stopped beside them.
The car window slowly rolled down, and the man in the driver's seat spoke in a gentle voice, "Three students, do you need any help?"
Ian and Lauren didn't recognize him, but Chris immediately recognized him as Nohra's adjutant, Louis.
Ian and Lauren exchanged a glance, unsure what to do. Then they both looked at Chris. Chris hesitated for a moment, unsure if Nuhra was also in the car, and worried that their relationship might be exposed...
After weighing the pros and cons, Chris declined Louis's offer and said politely, "Thank you. We'll just take the shuttle bus so as not to delay your business..."
As soon as Corris finished speaking, the back seat window rolled down and the expected face appeared before him - it was Nuhra.
"Classmates, have you also chosen my class?" Nuhra asked in a friendly manner, his eyes lingering between the three people, not staying on Chris for even a second. He looked like an ordinary teacher meeting his students.
"Yes, Professor," Ian said, a little bolder, answering proactively.
Nuhra nodded and continued, "When I came here just now, I seemed to see a shuttle bus leaving. If you want to take the shuttle bus, you will probably have to wait for a while."
Ian was the first to be persuaded. After all, he was really tired. If he kept waiting for the bus, it might take him longer to get back to the dormitory.
Lauren looked at Chris awkwardly, hoping he would make the decision. Chris thought for a moment, but didn't want to drag his friends along, so he finally accepted Nuhra's offer.
The three of them got in and sat together in the spacious back seat of Nuhra's car. Ian, belatedly aware of his embarrassment, looked around; Lauren lowered her head almost to the ground as soon as she got in the car... Only Chris was left, calmly talking face to face with Nuhra.
"Thank you for your trouble, Professor," Kress thanked him solemnly. "I hope this doesn't bother you too much."
Nuhra waved her hand casually, looking at Corris with a hint of concern in her eyes. "It's just a small favor. But, Corris, are you okay?"
Ian and Lauren were obviously surprised by this. They didn't expect Nuhra to know Chris, and their expressions became more inquiring for a moment.
Corris gritted his teeth secretly. He had not expected Nuhra to use such a trick. Now he could only go along with it and pretend to be shocked. "The professor actually knows me?"
Nuhra smiled and shifted her gaze to Ian and Lauren, naming them naturally. "Of course I know my students, Ian, Lauren, Chris... I've read your profiles."
Seeing Nuhra mention several people's names at once, Chris felt relieved.
The other two people who were unaware of the situation were also fooled by Nuhra's naming of names, and the focus shifted from "the professor actually knew Chris" to "the professor could actually remember all the students."
"Thank you for your concern, Professor. I'm just a little tired after exercising. I'll be fine when I go back and rest for a while." Seeing Nuhra's gaze resting on him again, Chris remembered Nuhra's concern for his physical condition just now, and hurriedly replied.
Nuhra didn't answer immediately, but just looked at Chris quietly. Chris knew that Nuhra didn't believe his words, but he couldn't tell what was happening to his body.
"...pay more attention to rest, and don't rush into exercise." Nuhra finally reminded Chris meaningfully, and Chris naturally responded obediently and seriously.
Afterward, the atmosphere in the car became even more tense. Nuhra asked a question, and Ian and Lauren responded. Chris was slightly more relaxed. After several rounds of conversation, Nuhra didn't want to embarrass the students, and the car fell silent.
Fortunately, the journey wasn't far, and after a short silence, the car arrived at the dormitory building. Ian and Lauren, restless, finally saw the light and couldn't wait to get out of the car.
Chris was the last one to get out. Before the car door closed, he opened his mouth towards Nuhra, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end he didn't say it.
Nuhra and Corris looked at each other, raised the corners of their mouths slightly, gestured goodbye, and the car door closed automatically.
Chris sighed softly and decided to discuss this with Nuhra the next time he went to his house. The three of them stood in front of the dormitory building and watched Nuhra's hovercraft go away.
When the shadow of the vehicle disappeared, Ian let out an exaggerated sigh of relief. Even Lauren, who had been silent the whole time, looked frightened.
"Oh my God, it's so scary to be in the same car with the professor!" Ian said excitedly, stroking his chest.
"Is he that scary? I feel he is quite friendly..." Chris subconsciously defended himself, but when he thought of the previous exchanges between him and Nuhra before their "marriage", he didn't have the confidence to continue.
Lauren obviously agreed with Ian's words, "Yeah, I... I really don't dare to say a word."
All Corris could say was, "Maybe that's what generals in the military are like?"
He had almost recovered. After thanking Ian, he took his bag and no longer needed Lauren to support him. The three of them walked slowly into the dormitory.
"But I was really shocked. I thought Corris and Professor Nuhra knew each other before..." Ian muttered to himself.
"Haha, haha... Is that so?" Chris laughed dryly and said to himself: We do know each other, and our relationship... is pretty close.
Lauren didn't say anything, but just silently touched her bag, not knowing what she was thinking.
When they reached the floor where their dormitory was located, the three of them said goodbye in front of the elevator and returned to their own dormitories.
Chris returned to the dormitory, said hello to Lauren, and then went back to his room. He entered the room quickly and did not see Lauren's complicated expression.
Although Kris had recovered considerably, he still felt a bit lethargic. He took a quick sonic bath. He lay comfortably in bed, holding his terminal, wanting to text Nuhra, but then he suddenly remembered Old Nar's inexplicable call from that afternoon...
Chris sighed resignedly, clicked on the dialog box labeled "Father," and casually greeted him.
[Chris: Father, I'm sorry. I was busy this afternoon and couldn't reply to your message in time.]
Just as Chris was about to say something else, Old Nar's video call request suddenly popped up. Chris had to sit up straight, tidy up his appearance, and then answer the video call.
"Corris, it's been nearly four interstellar hours since I first contacted you," Old Nar demanded, his expression unkind. "You'd better give me an explanation."
Seeing Old Nar's aggressive approach, Corris didn't want to act like a loving father and responded coldly, "I was studying in the library for a while. I was delayed."
Old Nar scoffed, remaining noncommittal. He and Kris had never been an ordinary father and son. Old Nar was used to giving his son orders: "I don't know where you went last week. You have to come home this week!"
Corris subconsciously refused, "No, Father, I..."
"You have no choice but to come back," Old Nar dismissed Corris's words coldly and rudely. "If not, I don't mind sending someone to the school to pick you up."
"...Yes, I will go home." Chris's eyes were impatient and his brows were furrowed, but in order to prevent old Nar from getting suspicious, he had to go home.
Old Nar snorted coldly and ended the call directly, leaving only Corris at the other end of the terminal, furious.
Chris sat on the bed and took a few deep breaths before finally calming down. He remembered that he had originally intended to send a message to Nuhra, so he clicked on the pinned contact.
【Chris: Sorry, I can't come to your house this week.】
【Chris: I... have something I want to ask you.】
Nuhra might have been busy and didn't reply immediately. Chris was also tired and didn't want to wait any longer. He turned off the screen of the terminal, closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Over the next few days, Chris went to the training ground regularly and worked out with a few friends. However, because of his previous experience, Chris was closely monitored by everyone, fearing that something might happen to him again.
"Don't you notice that your face looks very pale?" Joan told him bluntly when Curris politely explained that he could still continue training.
"Ah, is that so?" Chris knew nothing about this. He just felt a little tired in the past few days, but his overall condition was okay.
"Well..." Lauren said worriedly, "I've been trying to remind you to take care of yourself these past few days, but you kept saying you were fine."
Corris smiled sheepishly but said nothing. In his eyes, his face was always pale, and he had long been accustomed to it.
The group chatted casually as they left the training ground. Chris was going back to the Nar family home tonight; he had already agreed with Lauren and told the others.
So their training ended early today. Chris said goodbye to everyone, got on the shuttle bus alone, and went to the school gate. Old Nar still sent a car to pick him up, perhaps because he was afraid that Chris would do something tricky and escape halfway.
"Quite on time." Chris opened the car door and got in. The first thing he encountered was old Nar's indifferent comment.
Chris called out "Father" briefly and fell silent. He sat across from Old Nar like a puppet, his eyes blank.
"What have you done recently? You look so bad." With the help of the lights inside the car, Old Nar noticed that Chris's face was pale.
"I'm just a little tired, that's all." Chris didn't want to say more and just said it casually.
Old Nar remained silent. He had long been accustomed to his rebellious son's attitude and had plenty of ways to discipline him. He simply ignored Corris's indifferent tone and brought him another not-so-good message:
"I'll have a doctor check you out when I get home," Old Nar said calmly. "Your mother is very worried about you."
Corris' pupils dilated for a moment, then he lowered his head to hide his momentary surprise.
