Chapter 49 Meeting
Lori's gaze stayed on Chris for only a moment, then he immediately moved away. The speed was so fast that Chris even doubted for a moment whether he had seen it wrong.
Chris thought Lowry would try every possible way to make trouble for him, just like he did at the beginning of the school year, but he didn't expect Lowry to just give him a few glances and then ignore him. When he encountered any tricky questions, he didn't call on him to answer.
Chris was flattered by Loriphon's sudden change of character. He had indeed mentioned Loriphon's targeting to Nuhra before. Could it be that Nuhra really did something secretly?
With a faint sense of doubt in his heart, Chris listened attentively throughout the entire class until the bell rang. He didn't have a class next period, so he planned to go back to the dormitory. After leaving the classroom, he said goodbye to Joan and boarded the shuttle bus again.
Chris brought desserts for all his friends. He planned to give Margaret and Joan two portions during the afternoon class, and let Ian and Lauren pick up theirs in the dormitory.
He wasn't quite sure about Ian and Lauren's class schedules, so after thinking about it, he decided to send them a text message in advance to inform them.
Ian replied almost immediately. He loved desserts as much as Chris did. When he heard there was something to eat, he agreed without hesitation.
Not long after, Lauren also replied to Chris, saying that she was in the dormitory and would make tea and wait for them there.
After a few words of back-and-forth conversation, the shuttle bus's mechanical voice announced: "In the corridor of dormitory No. 5, students, please get off the bus in an orderly manner..." Chris put away the terminal and got off the bus with the people in front of him.
He followed his memory and walked up the elevator, returning to the dormitory building he had not seen for a long time. He felt a rare bit of excitement.
As soon as Kris passed the pupil lock on the dormitory door, the door opened from the inside. Lauren and Ian stood on either side of the door with joyful smiles on their faces, each holding a small bunch of electronic fireworks in their hands, and shouted, "Warmly welcome Mr. Krisner back to school!"
Fireworks rained down on him. Chris smiled bitterly and waved away the fireworks. He was then led into the dormitory by Ian and Lauren.
"I put your luggage in the living room." Lauren smiled gently and shyly, pointing to the portable luggage bag neatly placed next to the sofa. "The transport robot said some of it was food, so I put it in the refrigerator."
Chris smiled and thanked Lauren. Ian, who had been unable to find a chance to speak, finally spoke up: "Oh, man, I missed you so much... You don't know how hard our training is. We're just waiting for you to come back!"
Then, Ian tearfully accused June of being "brutal." It sounded so miserable that even Chris was a little scared when he heard it: "Are you not hurt?"
Lauren was afraid that Chris might have misunderstood something, so she quickly explained, "I'm not injured. Joan is very attentive in her training... I think my overall quality has improved."
Ian pursed his lips but didn't refute Lauren's words. Chris's eyes lingered on both of their faces, and he felt relieved only after confirming that there was no problem.
Chris walked to the refrigerator, took out three desserts and placed them on the counter, beckoning them to come and eat. "How is your practice going now? Let's talk while we eat."
Ian immediately put aside his previous sadness and rushed to the bar like a hungry wolf and sat down. Lauren also took out tea sets and flower tea and placed them next to the dessert.
This time, Chris brought a mousse cake covered with nuts and a special thick sauce. The aroma of the roasted nuts and the rich fragrance flooded the dormitory like a tide.
"Chris, where on earth did you find so many delicious desserts!?" Ian's expression was full of envy.
Chris actually didn't know where these desserts came from. He only knew that Nuhra brought them to him when she came home yesterday. He saw them when he went out today and brought them along... When Ian asked him about this, he could only lie and say, "My family bought them. If you like them, I can ask him next time."
"Yeah!" Ian was so focused on eating that he wasn't sure if he remembered this. Lauren didn't say anything and poured tea for Ian and Chris.
The three of them ate their desserts in silence. Ian devoured most of the cake in a few bites, then washed it down with a sip of scented tea before continuing to complain, "Oh, don't tell me, I'm still very afraid of Admiral Nuhra. He randomly checks on you during class, and if you make a mistake, he'll gently correct you. And next time there's a similar question, he'll call you out..."
Chris listened with great interest. He hadn't attended Nuhra's class for a while, and since he usually stayed with Nuhra, he really had no idea what Nuhra's class was like.
Lauren seemed to agree with Ian on this point, looking a little apprehensive. "He's already memorized the names of most of the students in the class, and he'll call on them to answer questions at any time during class... I've been called on several times."
Ian agreed and added, "When I see Admiral Nuhra's smile now, I want to kneel down... Although he always smiles kindly and is very handsome, I am just afraid of him!"
Chris hadn't expected that Nuhra would have this style of teaching. After all, he was a little scared. After all, Chris himself was the type who kept quiet in class... He didn't like being called on to answer questions at all.
Ian sighed, and even the cake he had just eaten became tasteless. Lauren lowered her head and took sips of the tea in the cup, while Chris stared at the cake in front of him with a heavy heart, not touching a single bite.
The three of them chatted idly, ate the remaining cake, and then went their separate ways. Ian and Lauren planned to go to the cafeteria, but Chris was not hungry and went straight back to his room.
He hadn't been back for a while. Lying on his bed in the dormitory, he opened the terminal boredly. Chris subconsciously wanted to send a message to Nuhra, but finally gave up.
He stood up, changed into his home clothes, and decided to take a nap. When he woke up, he went straight to class. Chris had recently gotten used to having Nuhra by his side while he slept, but now that he was back at school, he was sleeping alone again... and he could only toss and turn in bed, unable to fall asleep.
When Chris finally fell asleep, the alarm clock rang. Chris sat up from the bed with his head in pain, resigned to his fate and got up to get ready. After packing his things, he walked out of the living room, took out the cake for Margaret and Joan from the refrigerator, and leaned against the door waiting for Lauren to leave together.
Lauren moved quickly, and before Chris could wait long, he walked out of the room and said with a smile, "Let's go, Ian should be waiting for us."
When they reached the elevator, Ian was already standing next to it, still playing games on his terminal. Only after Chris called out from a distance did he put away the terminal and press the elevator button.
"I'm so nervous... I hope I won't be called out in this class..." Ian muttered to himself, clasping his hands together, with the word "piety" written all over his body.
Lauren forced a smile, but it looked uglier than crying. "Ian, I can't stand what you said... What should I do? I didn't get called in the last class, so I'm afraid I'm in danger this time."
Chris stood between the two of them, not knowing what to do. He could only silently take out the terminal, intending to review his notes and make some futile struggle.
The atmosphere was heavy throughout the journey, especially as we approached the auditorium. Students in various military uniforms were either discussing the previous class's content with their companions or frantically reviewing and preparing for class.
The atmosphere in the auditorium was even more suffocating. Everyone was quietly looking at their own terminals, flipping through the holographic screens at a rapid speed, fearing that they would miss something.
Margaret and Joan arrived earlier than the three boys and had already secured their seats. Even the usually casual Joan was looking through some documents, while Margaret sat beside them, frowning and mumbling to herself.
"Margaret, Joan...um, I brought you some desserts." Chris didn't know whether he should speak out loud for a moment, and carefully handed the box in his hand to them.
Only then did the two of them have the chance to stand up and let Kris and the others sit in. "Thank you very much... Oh, Kris, it's great to see you back... I'm so sorry, I'm so confused." Margaret held her forehead and said apologetically.
Qiong coldly extended her hand, without even glancing at them, and stared intently at the holographic screen in front of her, on which various points of knowledge flashed like shooting stars.
In this atmosphere, Chris was only focused on studying. Now in his mind, Nuhra was no longer a partner, but a terrifying teacher.
When the bell rang, Nuhra appeared in front of the podium on time as usual and greeted the nearly two hundred students in front of him warmly. The students in the audience did not dare to act rashly and responded with respect.
Before Nuhra started the lecture, he talked about other things for a while, probably some military news from the capital planet and even the entire empire. Then he changed the subject and started calling on people to express their opinions.
"Ah... I'm so envious." Ian, who was sitting on the right side of Chris, looked at the first classmate who was called in the distance and sighed.
"I'm envious too... It's better to be woken up now than later." Margaret on the other side heard Ian's whispered words and sighed as well.
Chris didn't say anything, but just listened nervously to the questions and answers between Nuhra and the classmate. His brain quickly searched for recent military news, fearing that he would be the next one to be called out.
Even if Nuhra was standing naked in front of Chris, he would just close his eyes and frantically review the class content in his mind... In Chris's eyes, Nuhra seemed to be split into two people, one was the devil professor, and the other was the lover who was touching his skin.
On the other side, the student who was called on had finished answering. Nuhra asked him to sit down and continued with what he had not finished, analyzing the hidden information in the news for the students.
Nuhra's explanation was concise and clear, and she quickly moved on to the next piece of news. The audience once again held their breath, and everyone's eyes were focused on Nuhra alone.
Nuhra herself seemed unaware and was just casually patrolling the auditorium, looking for her next target.
Nuhra's eyes swept over where Kris was. Kris felt his scalp tingling and lowered his head in panic. His heart was dead silent, and he was ready to be ignited. Unexpectedly, Nuhra called out another person's name: "Ian, Ian Javier... Would you like to share your thoughts?"
Chris heard Ian next to him stand up suddenly, close his eyes as if he had survived a disaster, and exhale... Fortunately, fortunately it wasn't him!
