Chapter 53 Turning Point
Although Chris and the others couldn't understand why Joan chose to install a micro-monitor at the door of the training room out of boredom, the appearance of this monitor provided a turning point for their next investigation.
Ian continued to communicate with Joan on the terminal, and Joan immediately retrieved all the videos from the micro-surveillance system and handed them to Ian.
Because it was not yet the break time arranged by the college, Ian immediately opened the surveillance content provided by Qiong Xin, located the place he wanted to find according to the time, and sure enough, he captured the scene from another angle.
The several surveillance cameras Ian found were all shooting from Lauren's left side or in front and behind, but the surveillance camera installed by Joan was shooting from Lauren's right side, and the distance was closer, so he could see more clearly.
Chris and Ian Lauren huddled together, intently staring at the slowed-down surveillance footage. On the holographic screen, they watched as a strange man entered the surveillance area from the other side and slammed into the side of Lauren's backpack. Then, a pile of items spilled out of Lauren's backpack, and they both squatted down to pick up the items.
They were unable to confirm the first time whether the package of contraband had fallen out of Lauren's bag, because some of the images that were visible on the other monitor could not be seen clearly here due to the change in angle.
"That won't work," Kris shook his head, feeling a rare sense of irritation at being played around with. "Zoom in a little bit, look at his hands, both hands."
Hearing this, Ian expertly adjusted the settings, focusing the image on the stranger's hands. Each hand appeared clearly on separate screens. After a moment's thought, he added a separate freeze frame of his upper body. "I suspect he could be hiding in his coat. It's so loose, shaking it might cause something inside to fall out."
Lauren nodded, half understanding, trying to recall the situation, and added a few details: "When he bumped into me, I felt that his coat was very thick inside, but not the kind with fluff in it. It had a lot of cloth inside, like layers of pockets."
"...He was wearing a cleaner's vest and claimed to be a temporary worker." Lauren was completely baffled. He had no connection with over 80% of the students at the academy, and he had no idea who could be so viciously trying to harm him. "I checked the academy system a few hours ago, and temporary workers aren't listed in the employee column... I really don't understand why that person would do such a thing."
"Little Lauren, it's not just this person who framed you, there's also the one who filmed the video and reported you... Maybe there are other people secretly giving these two people advice." Ian turned his head and said to Lauren with a loving look on his face.
Lauren felt even worse after hearing Ian's alarmist analysis. His face turned pale, and his hands and feet were cold. He wasn't originally from the capital planet. He had come here from a remote star system for the first time to attend school, and he encountered something like this. He was panicked for a moment.
Seeing Lauren's current state, Chris couldn't bear to continue to stimulate him. "It's almost time to rest now. Lauren, you should go to bed first. Ian and I will watch over you here."
Lauren wanted to refuse, but Ian and Chris also persuaded him to leave. He also knew that he could not help much here, so he had to tell Chris and others to go to bed early.
As soon as Lauren was persuaded to go into the room to rest, the intelligent system in the dormitory faithfully performed its duties, announcing and reminding Ian and Chris that it was time to rest.
"Alas... I can't see anything for the time being. I don't have classes tomorrow, so I'll keep an eye on it." Ian didn't waste any time. After packing up the equipment on the desk, he left.
Knowing that checking the surveillance cameras would take up a large part of Ian's energy, Chris quickly stepped forward to help him pack up, not forgetting to express his gratitude: "Thanks to you, Ian. If it weren't for you, Lauren and I wouldn't know what we would do."
"No need to say too many polite words of thanks, we're all friends." Ian knew what Chris meant. He simply waved his hand and patted Chris's shoulder. "Just send a few more desserts to comfort you, buddy."
"Of course, I'll arrange it for you right now," Kris chuckled and said readily. He wasn't just talking to please Ian; later, Kris planned to have the system make a reservation for him at the most famous dessert shop on the capital planet to give Ian a surprise.
Chris chatted and laughed with Ian, and finally sent Ian out of the dormitory. Then he turned around and went back to his room.
Having spent the entire evening searching for surveillance cameras, Chris hadn't even had time to wash up. Thinking it was already rest time, he didn't bother to bother, so he went to the bathroom, took a quick sonic bath, and then comfortably lay down on the bed.
Strangely, by the time he finally fell asleep, the sleepiness he'd felt before washing up had vanished. Kris had wanted to go back to the terminal, but the more he looked, the more awake he became. He had no choice but to close the terminal and close his eyes in the darkness.
Chris was not particularly fond of his bed, and he was actually very tired. Normally, he should have been able to fall asleep as soon as he lay down on the bed... But today, for some reason, Chris tossed and turned in bed for almost half an hour, with no sign of falling asleep.
In the end, Chris could only resign himself to getting out of bed, opening the terminal and browsing for a while, hoping that he could fall asleep in the process.
With so much going on today, even after meeting Nuhra, Chris hadn't immediately considered buying him a gift. In the dead of night, Chris, finally free, decided to look for a suitable part-time job to save some money.
His priority was part-time jobs within the college. After all, he had to go to school during the week, and even when he went home on weekends, he lived in a neighborhood not far from the college. Finding a part-time job within the college was the most suitable job for him.
Chris remembered that he had found a work-study position within the college system, so he gave the terminal a search command, which then found the corresponding website. In less than a second, the website Chris was looking for appeared on the terminal's dark blue holographic screen.
He scrolled through the information on the terminal bit by bit. The college offered quite a few part-time jobs, and generally speaking, they were relatively leisurely. However, the salary was not as good as jobs outside the college.
Chris casually clicked on the descriptions of several positions, but was not particularly satisfied with any of them, so he continued to search on the page. As he saw more and more positions, Chris gradually had a better idea of what to look for.
The original owner had also worked part-time in the college. His resume could help him get more than 80% of part-time positions, giving Chris more options.
Chris felt that instead of continuing to search like looking for a needle in a haystack, it would be better to first determine his ideal salary and specific job location.
As for salary, the college has a unified salary standard, the difference is just a little more or less, and the overall fluctuation is not big; and he wants the work location to be within his usual living circle of the college... After much thought, the only two places that are more suitable are the college library and the No. 2 training hall.
Firstly, Chris needed to review in the library, and he would also go to Training Hall No. 2 to practice with his teammates; secondly, and this was a point that he particularly valued - these two places were related to their current investigation plan. Lauren once said that she heard someone mention "medicine" and black market-related content in the library, and this time Lauren was framed in Training Hall No. 2... Chris felt that he needed to find an opportunity to go and take a look, maybe he could find out some information.
As it happened, at the bottom of the page in front of him was a librarian position in the college library. Chris took a look and thought it quite met his needs, so he took out the resume prepared by the original owner from the terminal folder and sent it to this position first.
Although it was almost dawn, Chris still wanted to find another position in Training Hall No. 2 and submit his resume at the same time.
Fortunately, after a whole day of torture, Chris's luck finally returned to normal. Turning to the next page, there was a position in Training Hall No. 2. The main responsibilities were to inspect the situation in the hall and handle training room reservations.
This job was an almost perfect match for Chris's requirements, so he quickly submitted his resume. But even after all this, Chris still didn't feel like sleeping. Perhaps it was because he was working so hard during the job search that his mind was so active that it made it even harder to sleep.
Moreover, while he was tossing and turning in bed restlessly, he also realized another very important thing - Nuhra was no longer by his side, and he could not hold Nuhra while sleeping these days.
Ever since he was brought home sick by Nohra last time, the two of them slept in the same bed because Nohra was worried about his physical condition... Not long after, Chris and Nohra opened up to each other and their relationship naturally took a step further. Chris also became more and more bold in the process of getting along with Nohra, and even progressed to the point where he would hug Nohra to sleep together every day.
Chris wants to go home very much now... He once thought that he was too dependent on Nuhra, and even misunderstood their true feelings. Unexpectedly, after Chris and Nuhra expressed their true feelings to each other, Chris's dependence became uncontrollable, and Nuhra even showed her undisguised desire to protect him.
Therefore, Kris didn't tell Nuhra the truth about their team's black market plan. On the surface, he was worried that his relationship with Nuhra would be exposed prematurely, but deeper down, he was afraid of developing a habitual dependence on Nuhra... There were some things Kris felt it was better to do on his own.
This was the first time that Corris had concealed something important from Nuhra. He didn't have any particularly obvious feelings about it at first and thought it was something he had to do for the team's goals.
When Nuhra gently warned Chris tonight that she hated deception, Chris quietly planted the seeds of worry deep in his heart... He was worried that by doing so, would it damage the trust between him and Nuhra?
Even so, Corris would not regret it and chose to inform Nuhra instead... He and his companions had made up their minds and were lying in wait in the dark, waiting for the signal to attack.
