In the immortal realms, it’s rumored that Wang Yao, the Matchmaker, is untouchable. Offending others might lead to a fight, but offending the Matchmaker could lead to your family tree’s next versio...
Upon entering, one finds a circular hall. The walls are covered with screens, and facing them, rows of workstations are arranged in a tight, curved pattern, crammed with computers and other devices. Clearly, the management uses this space to control the entire floor.
The screens on all four walls are now off, and the computers and other equipment on the workbench are also switched off. Behind the workbench, near the center of the hall, sandbags, chairs, and tables have been arranged in a circle, resembling barricades, completely ruining the working environment of the entire hall.
As Wang Yao approached the barricade, he saw that there was a downward elevator in the center of the hall, which was designed to take him to the archives on the tenth floor.
However, at this moment, the elevator shaft opening was wide open and dark, and the two lotus-shaped top panels, which were supposed to be decorative on the elevator shaft opening, seemed to have been forcibly torn off and thrown not far from the elevator shaft opening.
The elevator here should be a futuristic, round, transparent sphere, originally meant to rise to the ground so that ghosts could easily go up and down.
Now it's stuck in a downward hole, about a hundred meters from the opening. There are several huge holes in the sphere, clearly damaged by some brute force.
"This... the Underworld Queen Zone is down there? Could it be that the Underworld Queen Zone is built on the seabed?" Wang Yao looked at the downward elevator shaft, recalling the original database of numerology that Xiao Jiang had introduced on the tenth floor, scratched his head, and asked the fairy in astonishment.
“That’s right. The immortals went down there to seal off the corpse energy. I’ll go down and take a look.” The fairy maiden also peeked into the cave and prepared to go down.
"Wait a minute!" Wang Yao suddenly shouted. He had spotted a piece of green bamboo among the sandbags. Due to the chaotic scene, he would have missed it if he hadn't been so familiar with this kind of bamboo. The bamboo piece was none other than the Awakening Token.
He called out to the fairy maiden, kicked aside several chairs and tables blocking his way, walked to the sandbag, and reached out to pull the sedative token from between the sandbags.
"Huh?" As the Awakening Token was pulled out, a white corner of paper peeked out from the gap in the sandbag. Wang Yao looked at the Awakening Token in his hand but couldn't figure out what it was, so he reached out and pulled out the piece of paper from between the sandbags.
The paper was folded up. Wang Yao put the Awakening Order aside, unfolded the paper, and saw a few lines of writing scrawled on it.
"That damned King Yama is a piece of trash. If I die, it'll be his fault. I'm going to hide at the train station now. Sing me a song loudly in the place where peach blossoms bloom. Be careful, my body is in danger. Cao."
"Fairy Maiden, come and take a look quickly!" Wang Yao hurriedly waved the note and called out to the fairy maiden.
The fairy maiden flashed over, took the note, and her eyes immediately welled up with tears.
"It's...it's Old Cao's handwriting! How did Yama harm him? If Old Cao has been murdered, I...I'll never forgive these Yamas!" the fairy cried out, her eyes brimming with tears.
"Let's hurry back to the station. This Cao Xian is strange. Why do we need to sing when we're looking for him?" Wang Yao muttered to himself.
"He's being cautious because he's a celestial being. His spirit resides in a celestial body, so he can't speak very fluently, let alone sing. If he can sing a complete song, then he certainly hasn't been possessed by the spirit." The fairy explained as she hurried toward the broken glass door.
"Where the peach blossoms bloom? That song is too old. Even ordinary immortals might not know how to sing it. Wouldn't it be better to choose something like 'Xi Shuashua' or 'How Come I'm So Beautiful'?" Wang Yao was still struggling with the question.
"Old Cao is a sage, how did he know about those songs you mentioned?" The fairy saw Wang Yao step out of the broken glass door, put a hand on Wang Yao's shoulder, and immediately started teleporting. In the blink of an eye, the two were back at the station.
"Old Cao, it's me, Xiao He! Come out quickly! Old Cao...!" The fairy hurriedly ran along the railway tracks, circling the tunnel, calling out as she went. As she called out, her voice choked with sobs.
"Sing, sing!" Wang Yao reminded him from the side.
"You don't know how to sing?" Fairy Maiden sobbed as she glared at Wang Yao.
"I don't know, this song is too old, all I know is 'Xi Shuashua'..." Wang Yao replied, blinking.
The fairy maiden leaped onto the front of a train stopped outside the tunnel, looked around helplessly, and could only choke back tears as she sang "In the Place Where Peach Blossoms Bloom," sobbing as she sang. Wang Yao felt a lump in his throat as he listened.
"...For...for...your scenery...to be even...even more beautiful...I am willing to stay...stay..." The song was about to end, but Cao Xian still hadn't appeared. Wang Yao thought to himself, "Oh no, Cao Xian has probably become a spirit residing in the nest."
"Ah..." The fairy sang "Ah" three or four times. Wang Yao knew that she was repeatedly singing the last line, because she did not want to believe that Cao Xian had been poisoned. Wang Yao couldn't help but sigh in his heart. The Eight Immortals! What a great name, but I never thought that they would fall into the hands of that inexplicable spirit.
The fairy stood on the roof of the train, tears streaming down her face, and her singing became increasingly out of tune. Wang Yao was about to persuade her to stop when a voice suddenly rang out from afar.
"Stop...stop singing! I want to hear you finish this song. Why can't you stop?"
Wang Yao and the fairy suddenly turned their heads and saw a white head pop out of a tin trash can outside the bungalow. Then an old man with white beard and white hair stood up from the trash can.
"Little He, it's been hundreds of years since I last heard you sing, hasn't it?" the old man said to the fairy with a smile.
"Old Cao!"
The fairy maiden screamed with delight, and in a flash, she leaped into the old man's arms on the top of the train. With a ripping sound, the fairy maiden smashed a big hole in the metal trash can. There wasn't anything dirty inside, but a bunch of colorful scraps of paper spilled out.
