Chapter Three: I'll Hold Your Hand

On the other side, Lu Lin led his newborn sister to the town's largest shopping mall, put on sunglasses and a mask, fully armed, and prepared to set off.

These actions were actually a bit strange, but Tang Wan just sat obediently in place and watched Lu Lin do them.

Seeing her like this, Lu Lin casually put a pair of sunglasses on her as well.

Then he asked, "Do you want to wear the same sunglasses as me?"

Tang Wan slowly shook her head.

"Hmm? You don't want to wear the same sunglasses as me?" Lu Lin squatted down curiously, wanting to know what was going on in this little brat's head.

Tang Wan reached out and took Lu Lin's hand, then jumped out of the car.

Lu Lin looked at Tang Wan with some confusion, but then he saw Tang Wan move her hands and make a few gestures.

A staff member nearby, guessing and hesitant, said, "It seems like she's saying that she's holding your hand."

After saying that, he muttered to himself, "They probably think you, Teacher Lu, have something wrong with your eyes."

This was the first time Lu Lin had been treated like this, and he was quite curious.

Then Tang Wan pulled him towards the mall.

The staff tried to step forward to stop him, but Lu Lin put his index finger to his lips and said, "Shh."

He shook Tang Wan's hand and said, "Then you'd better hold on tight."

Tang Wan couldn't speak, but she slowly tightened her small hands, holding Lu Lin's hand tightly, as if afraid of getting lost from him.

Lu Lin originally planned to take Tang Wan to the most famous store in the mall to buy clothes, but Tang Wan dragged Lu Lin to the basement level instead.

Lu Lin raised an eyebrow, his face completely hidden by sunglasses, and then asked, "Are there any clothes shops on the basement level?"

Tang Wan nodded, without letting go of his hand, and took short strides forward.

This was Lu Lin's first time coming to the basement to buy things, and everything was new and exciting to him.

His gaze swept around, but all he saw were counterfeit clothes bearing big brand names, yet missing parts and letters.

Tang Wan picked up a pink short-sleeved shirt from the stall, held it up against herself, then raised it with one hand and shouted to the shopkeeper, "Ahhh!"

The shop owner seemed to be an old acquaintance of Tang Wan. When he saw Tang Wan, he smiled and bent down to ask, "You're too young, you can't wear this dress."

Tang Wan's beautiful eyes darted around as she pointed to Lu Lin beside her and then waved the clothes in her hand.

"You want to wear the same clothes as him?"

Tang Wan's eyes lit up, and she nodded excitedly.

The shop owner glanced at Lu Lin, but inwardly rolled his eyes with disdain.

This guy looks like he's rich, yet he still made Tang Wan pay. He's so stingy.

I wonder how much trash Tang Wan collected to save up those twenty yuan.

Lu Lin had no idea what the shop owner was thinking. He subconsciously wanted to stop the little brat from buying the clothes that looked cheap, but stopped when Tang Wan took out two pieces.

The two pieces of clothing, one large and one small, seemed to be hinting at something.

Then she saw Tang Wan take a handful of crumpled coins from the pocket of her dirty skirt and hand them to the shopkeeper.

The shop owner didn't even count the items before putting them back in his bag. He then picked out a cheap-looking light green dress from the stall and handed it to Tang Wan.

She said, "Alright, you've come so many times, I'll sell it to you at a discount and even give you a dress to wear with it."

A blush appeared on Tang Wan's pale face, making her look somewhat embarrassed.

He didn't reach out to take it; he just kept shaking his head.

The shop owner was a very easygoing girl who simply shoved the dress into Tang Wan's hands.

Then, with a hesitant look in his eyes, he glanced at Lu Lin beside him. Just as they were about to leave, he finally made up his mind and said, "Hey, can you be a little nicer to her?"

Lu Lin already had a bad temper, and being treated like this, not getting angry was already his limit.

Upon hearing the girl say those words again, as if realizing something, they waved to the staff members who were not far from them.

A staff member jogged over to Lu Lin's side and asked ingratiatingly, "Brother Lu, what can I do for you?"

Lu Lin pointed to the milk tea shop next door: "Take her over there and sit for a while, I'll be there in a bit."

Tang Wan watched Lu Lin's retreating figure, then obediently followed the staff member Xiao Zhang to the milk tea shop across the street. She sat there without ordering anything, her eyes never leaving Lu Lin.

After a long while, Lu Lin returned from the shop owner's place.

Tang Wan skipped and hopped towards Lu Lin, carefully tugging at the hem of his clothes. She looked at him with her beautiful eyes, which instantly softened his heart.

He crouched down to be at eye level with Tang Wan, and then asked, "Why didn't you order milk tea?"

Tang Wan shook her head, indicating that she wouldn't drink, but looked at Lu Lin nervously, like a stray kitten that had finally found a roof to lean on.

Lu Lin patted her head, then picked Tang Wan up.

But in his mind, he was thinking about what the shop owner had just said.

"Tang Wan is a bit unlucky."

"She may have a natural tendency to please others. As long as someone expresses interest in adopting her, she will bring them to me and buy them small gifts."

“But every time, Tang Wan would be sent back.”

"You have no idea how hard it was for her to save up this little bit of money. I don't know if their orphanage is really struggling to make ends meet. Tang Wan always wears tattered clothes and goes around picking up trash."

“Those old women took pity on Tang Wan and specially set aside a small area for her to collect things, but even so, it wasn’t easy for her to save twenty yuan.”

She took out a large handful of loose change, looking somewhat melancholy: "This will probably take her more than a month of picking up trash."

Lu Lin was holding a plastic bag containing clothes that Tang Wan had bought for him.

Seeing this, Xiao Zhang reached out to take the plastic bag, but Lu Lin subtly dodged it.

Lu Lin let Tang Wan choose a cup of milk tea, and then said, "Don't worry, I won't abandon you for no reason."

Tang Wan gripped Lu Lin's hand tightly, her lips pursed, looking like a feignedly serious little cat.

Then Lu Lin flicked his nose and said, "Let's go, I'll take you home first."

Upon hearing this, Xiao Zhang looked at Tang Wan with some surprise.

I was thinking to myself, "Wow, awesome!"

Wow, this young lady is amazing. She easily won over their most difficult young master.

Tang Wan held the milk tea, looked at Lu Lin, and opened her mouth to let out a soft "Ah!"

She wanted to say something, but couldn't utter a word.

She could only silently clutch at Lu Lin's clothes, as if grasping at a hard-won lifeline.
