Chapter 640 Recognizing Relatives

Carlos McCann leaned back in his chair, staring at the screen, but his mind was wandering.

I wonder what the girl will think if I bring it up? Maybe she'll become even more distant! I'll just have to get closer to her slowly like this.

I sat for a while longer before preparing to leave, but then, almost unconsciously, I sat down at the round table and started looking through the photo album. Seeing the different styles of the girls, I was increasingly captivated. Before, I thought it was just a crush on her, but seeing the breathtakingly beautiful Zhang Hongmei made my heart race. This must be true infatuation.

The entire album was filled with photos of the two of them together. Now, the man doesn't seem so outstanding anymore; in fact, he just seems an eyesore.

Scroll to the very end, and you'll find another photo below the first one.

I looked at it and laughed. It was a solo photo of this girl pouting. So cute! I thought Anne was already the cutest angel, but I never imagined this girl in a bright red wedding dress would be even cuter than Anne.

He pulled out the photo, took out his wallet, and put it inside. He was still thinking to himself, "Isn't this stealing without asking?"

I have to say, I'm actually a little excited. The head of the family, actually stealing photos? It's unbelievable.

Zhang Hongmei and Annie were sitting in the living room chatting with Wang Xinyi and the others.

"Grandma, Mom said she'll stay with us on Sunday and take me to school on Monday morning. Humph! I'm going to show them my beautiful mom, who's way prettier than their moms."

Looking at her granddaughter's excited expression, Huang Meihua felt genuinely regretful.

But what could be done? If the girl herself took a liking to Carlos, she would be willing to do anything, even if it meant creating a powerful enemy. But she had no such intentions whatsoever; in fact, she treated her son with indifference and showed absolutely no sign of it.

Go back and have a good talk with Carlos. Hopefully, it's just a common male flaw—liking beautiful women—and he's not really infatuated.

"Grandma, why don't you answer me when I talk to you?"

"I'm sorry, honey, Grandma was thinking about something earlier, but I heard what you said. It would be wonderful if your mom could stay with us. I hope she can stay with us every day."

Anne sighed, "I want to too, but Mom says she has a family and she has to go to school, so she's very busy."

Zhang Hongmei smiled and patted Annie's head. "Yes, Mom has to go to school and is very busy. I also need to find time to design games for my precious daughter. So Mom can only stay at your house one night on Sunday."

Annie looked up. "Mom, I know. One of my classmates' parents are divorced, so they don't live together anymore. He spends every Friday with Mom, and Mom takes him to school on Mondays. Mom, are you and Dad divorced too?"

Just as Annie finished asking her question, Carlos McCann came downstairs and overheard his daughter's outrageous question.

Zhang Hongmei was stunned. What kind of question was this, and how should she answer it?

"Dad, I'm asking you, have you and Mom gotten divorced?"

Carlos sat to Anne's left, patiently answering his daughter's questions.

"No, we're not divorced. How could I bear to divorce your mother? Don't you agree, Annie?"

Annie turned her head to Zhang Hongmei again. "Mom, is that right? You two aren't divorced?"

“Annie, you’re still young. This question is too profound. I’ll just tell you frankly: your father and I were never married, so how could we be divorced?”

"Dad, why didn't you get married before me?"

Carlos McCann laughed, the kind of laugh that's really enjoyable. "Annie, I want to marry your mother, but she won't allow it."

Annie turned back to me. "Mom, why don't you agree?"

Zhang Hongmei was about to lose her mind. Why did this brat ask so many questions? She wasn't an angel anymore; she was a devil.

“Annie, because I already have a husband, the one you just saw in the photo, I can’t get married again.”

Annie nodded, seemingly understanding, but being a child, she quickly put aside her worries and happily discussed with Zhang Hongmei about going out to play in the afternoon.

Carlos McKen sighed inwardly. Why couldn't his daughter ask more questions?

Wang Xinyi came out of the kitchen. "We can start eating now. Sister Huang, please take your seat and see if it suits your taste."

Zhao Tiancheng also came out of the kitchen and knocked on the door to call Cheng Guangxu and the others.

"Xinyi, you're being too polite!" Huang Meihua felt a little embarrassed when she saw the large table of dishes.

"What are you saying, Sister Huang? Next time, please let us know in advance so that it can be even more unique. We were short on time today, so we just put together a few things. Please don't be disgusted by them."

"How could that be? Whenever I crave something, I go to a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown, but I always feel that the taste is not right. I've even hired a few chefs, but none of them quite suit my taste."

"Then try this person's cooking, are you satisfied?"

Everyone took their seats, and Huang Meihua picked up a piece of braised pork.

"Yes, this is the taste! It smells so good, just like the taste from my childhood."

Wang Xinyi smiled and said, "If you like it, eat more. Annie and Carlos, don't be shy. Everyone, start eating!"

"Grandma, am I telling the truth?" Annie asked Huang Meihua with a proud air.

"Yes, my Annie is right."

Shen Yunfang brought out the last plate of stir-fried shrimp.

"Sister Huang, this is Shen Yunfang who cooks. She is very skillful, especially in making noodles and rice. Next time you come, call ahead so we can make dumplings together."

"Hehe, that's great, but what I want to eat most is meat pie. I've had it so many times, but it just doesn't taste the same as before."

"Hehe, okay, let's make meat pies. It's just that Yunfang isn't good at it, but I'm here for that."

Huang Meihua ate quite a lot at this meal. It's fair to say that both host and guests had a great time.

After dinner, everyone sat in the living room drinking tea. Annie leaned against Zhang Hongmei's chest, feeling drowsy.

"Aunt Huang, Aunt Wang, please have a seat. I'll take Annie upstairs to sleep."

After Zhang Hongmei finished speaking, Zeng Zhongkang came over and picked up the little girl. "Shall I take you upstairs?"

Carlos McKen watched as his opportunity slipped away again. He was a little frustrated, but there would be plenty of other opportunities in the future.

"Xinyi, I'm leaving now. I'll come back tomorrow morning. Hongmei is right. I need to go back and ask my husband for his opinion."

"Okay, I'll make you meat pies for lunch tomorrow. Also, you don't have to force yourself. If your family doesn't agree, you can treat Hongmei like your own daughter. She's a kind and affectionate girl. Really, we've only known each other for less than a year, but I know I didn't misjudge her."

"Yes, I understand. Like I said, it would be even better if she could be my daughter-in-law, but Carlos doesn't have that kind of luck."
