Chen Le got up and went to the front desk to pay the bill. The proprietress even rounded down the price by 12 yuan for Chen Le. The three of them only spent 200 yuan on hot pot. When he turned around, he saw that the two little ones were already waiting for him at the door. "They are so self-disciplined. I didn't even have to call them."

Do you really think we're clueless?

Chen Yu rolled her eyes at Chen Le. After dinner, it was already dark. People on the street gathered in the town square to wait for the fireworks. Chen Le led the two to the side. This spot was pretty good for watching the fireworks, but it was too crowded. Chen Yu was rather short, and the people around her seemed to ignore her, pushing and shoving her relentlessly. Chen Yu got angry from being squeezed.

"Big sister, can't you see someone behind you? Can't you feel it?"

Chen Yu angrily questioned the woman in front of her. She had only spoken up because she had had enough. This woman had arrived after Chen Yu and had even forced her way in. She and her boyfriend were constantly being affectionate, and she had even stepped on Chen Yu's feet three times without saying sorry. Chen Yan had seen all of this, but he chose not to speak up for Chen Yu.

"Young lady, how can you speak so rudely? You're so short, of course I can't see you." The woman glared at Chen Yu after saying that, which made Chen Yu furious. Before she could retort, the man next to the woman glared fiercely at Chen Yu, "Little brat, don't cause trouble. If you don't want to see, get out."

These words completely enraged Chen Yu. "Damn it, your girlfriend stepped on me three times and bumped into me several times with her huge ass, and you still have the nerve to talk back?" Her voice was so loud that everyone around heard it, and the surroundings fell silent instantly, with everyone looking in their direction.

Chen Le was playing on his phone when he heard Chen Yu's furious voice. He quickly put down his phone, patted Chen Yu's shoulder, and told her to calm down.

"Go to hell! How can you talk like that, you little girl? You were born but didn't learn anything from your mother, huh? Today I'll teach you what manners are on behalf of your mother."

The man raised his hand to slap Chen Yu across the face. Chen Yu was expecting the slap, but instead it landed on her face. Instead, Shen Yan grabbed her hand. "Brother, do you hit girls too?"

The man who had grabbed Shen Yan's hand blushed instantly. He tried to shake off Shen Yan's hand, but he found that the high school student in front of him was surprisingly strong. "Trying to be a hero and save the damsel in distress? Don't you even know your own body!" The man tried to provoke Shen Yan, but found that the expression on his face remained indifferent.

Chen Le stepped forward and pulled down Chen Yan's hand. He looked at the man with some displeasure and said, "What's wrong with you? Are you trying to hurt a child?"

"Who do you think you are? What business is it of yours what I do with this little bitch?"

The man's arrogance had already subsided by half. He hadn't expected that a young girl would have two people backing her up. The woman also became a little nervous. Chen Le was quite muscular, having worked every day, so he still had the muscles he needed.

"Forget it, Brother Wen, don't bother with them. They're really ruining my mood. I don't want to watch anymore."

The woman stepped in to smooth things over. She knew her man couldn't beat Chen Le, and the man readily agreed, "Fine, let's not watch anymore, let's go!"

The two of them simply disappeared into the square.

Although Chen Yu felt relieved, she still felt uneasy. Her new shoes were all dirty, especially since they were high heels, and her feet felt burning. Looking at Chen Yu's expression, Shen Yan was momentarily confused as to why he had helped her. He should hate her; if he had actually slapped her, he probably would have been happy...

Thump, thump, thump.

Brilliant fireworks lit up the sky. Shen Yan was drawn to them, his gaze following them. Chen Yu also looked up and inadvertently caught a glimpse of Shen Yan's profile. He was still so perfect. How come she never thought Shen Yan was handsome before? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, indeed.

Chen Le took out his phone and took a few pictures of the sky, then took pictures of Chen Yu and Shen Yan's backs. He opened the chat box with Chen Kang and sent them to him, asking Chen Kang how things were going and whether the two little guys were getting along.

Chen Kang showed the photo to Li Ziyun.

"This Chen Le is really something; this is the first time the two of them have gotten this close."

"That's right, Yu Yu usually gets angry when she sees Shen Yan."

The two discussed Chen Yu's performance over the past few days and planned to praise her when they got back, and give her a little extra pocket money, as well as some for Chen Yan, so that they wouldn't be biased.

Chen Le stared at his phone, not receiving a reply from his brother for a long time. He instantly lost confidence. Wasn't this something to celebrate? Just as he was about to turn off his phone, he received a reply from Chen Kang: three thumbs up. Chen Le felt a little embarrassed, speechless for the first time.

The fireworks display lasted for half an hour and then ended. Chen Le checked the time; it was not yet 8:30.

"Would you like to take a stroll around town? It's still early."

Chen Yu nodded in agreement. Shen Yan also wanted to walk around the area. Chen Le led the way, and when they passed a river, they found that everyone was releasing lotus lanterns. Chen Le looked at the sullen Chen Yu and thought that she was probably still angry about what had just happened.

"Yu Yu, shall I buy you and Shen Yan some lanterns to light up? Wishing you both success in your exams!"

Chen Le walked over and asked a passerby, only to find out that he had bought it at the shop across the street. He told Shen Yan to watch over Chen Yu and wait for him to return, then hurriedly ran to the small shop across the street to buy a lotus lantern.

Chen Yu sat on the steps, feeling irritable. The more she thought about what had happened that night, the angrier she became.
