The two wanted to continue playing pranks on Shen Yan, but Shen Yan was taken away by the teacher, so they had no chance and didn't show up until the end.

Chen Yu's thoughts ended there. She logged out of the class group chat, choosing to avoid seeing it and getting upset. She fell asleep soon after, while Chen Kang and Li Ziyun were still cleaning downstairs.

"Honey, do you think those two kids have made up?"

"It seems a bit better than before, but Shen Yan still doesn't like to talk."

The two were talking loudly enough for Shen Yan upstairs to hear. He had just finished brushing his teeth and came out of the bathroom when he heard it. Looking at Chen Yu's closed door, he couldn't tell whether Chen Yu had really changed or was just plotting something even bigger to torture him.

The conversation downstairs abruptly stopped, and Shen Yan finally came to his senses and went into the room, quietly closing the door behind him.

Morning.

Chen Yu was woken up by Li Ziyun, who said that skipping breakfast would cause gallstones.

"Mom, I'm so young, how could I possibly get this?" Chen Yu said helplessly, poking at the eggs on her plate with a fork in her eyes.

"Hmph, you young people just don't believe what we older generation say."

"Yes, yes, yes, I'll still talk nonsense when I'm old."

Li Ziyun glanced at Chen Yu without saying anything. Chen Yan quietly finished his breakfast and was about to get up when Li Ziyun pressed him back down, saying, "Drink this glass of milk."

Shen Yan didn't really want to drink it, but Li Ziyun's eyes left no room for refusal. Her gaze was very firm, so Shen Yan had no choice but to take the glass of milk and drink it all in one gulp.

"Little Shen Yan is still the best."

Chen Yu's expression changed slightly. Why was he still trying to find ways to tease her?

After she finished eating, she went upstairs to her bed to catch up on some sleep. Li Ziyun got ready and left. Shen Yan wanted to help, but she sent him back upstairs. Shen Yan sat in a chair, feeling a bit bored. Seeing that it was still early, he decided to go to the bookstore to buy a few more workbooks. He opened the drawer and counted the change inside. There was still more than 2,000 yuan left. This was all he had saved up. Chen Kang and Li Ziyun had given him a lot of pocket money, but Chen Yu would often take half of it.

Shen Yan changed his clothes and left, leaving Chen Yu alone at home.

The weather was alright today, but it was only around 10 degrees Celsius. Shen Yan wrapped his coat tighter around himself and ran into Jiang Yang and his friend as soon as he turned a corner. The two exchanged a glance, but Jiang Yang didn't react and walked away chatting and laughing with his friend.

Shen Yan frowned, but left without thinking much. He reached the bookstore through the alley. Suddenly, his mouth was covered, and a sack was put over his head. Shen Yan covered his head with his hands, but he still couldn't avoid being punched a few times. He tried to fight back, but he could clearly feel that several people were surrounding him.

Jiang Yang kicked Shen Yan viciously in the stomach. To his surprise, the kid actually protected his head. But his lower body was now empty. He had many friends, five or six in total, who were all frantically punching Shen Yan.

"That's enough, don't kill him."

One of his friends reminded Jiang Yang, which made him stop and leave the path with his men. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, and he felt dizzy. He leaned against the wall to stand up, but collapsed as soon as he stood up.

Hospital.

Upon receiving the call, Li Ziyun nearly fainted. She immediately called Chen Kang, and the two rushed to the hospital together. Shen Yan was wheeled into the operating room, where an elderly woman stood waiting at the door.

Li Ziyun grabbed the nurse and asked her, and the nurse checked.

"Still in the operating room, please wait patiently." The nurse pointed to the operating room and told Li Ziyun to go wait there.

Li Ziyun stood at the door, somewhat at a loss. The old woman next to her overheard her conversation with the nurse and asked, "Are you Shen Yan's mother?"

"To me, you are?"

"Oh, I'm the one who took him to the hospital. My mom came, so I left first. The old lady got tired from sitting for so long."

"Thank you so much, Auntie. I'm so grateful." Li Ziyun said, taking out a wad of cash from her bag and insisting on giving it to the old woman. The old woman accepted it without refusing and left.

When Chen Kang arrived at the hospital, Shen Yan had already come out. Li Ziyun felt heartbroken seeing the scars all over his face.

"What happened? Where was it found?"

"The old lady said on the phone that it was on the small path next to our house."

Chen Kang thought for a moment, "We should probably go buy books."

He thought for a moment and realized there seemed to be surveillance cameras in that alley. After comforting Li Ziyun, he returned to the station to file a report. When the people in the station heard that he was Chen Ke and Yang Qiao's son, everyone took it seriously. After so many years, Chen Kang had long since climbed to the position of bureau chief.

He led his men to the alley. The used sacks were still on the ground, along with some visible bloodstains, and there were surveillance cameras overhead.

"Director Chen, this surveillance camera was installed five years ago by the small shop next door, and I heard it broke down a long time ago..."

"What do we do now? Let's see if there are any other places, or if there are any witnesses."

Everyone had their own ideas, and Chen Kang let everyone search for clues freely. He found the location of the exit and discovered another surveillance camera, which was in the parking lot in front of a restaurant and happened to be filming the intersection of the alley.

He negotiated with the restaurant staff and got the surveillance footage. He checked the time and saw that when several young men passed by Chen Yan, one of the boys glanced at him and then went back into the alley. He came out again about 10 minutes later. He saved this video footage.
