The Path to Chasing My Husband is Really Hard!

When she was 8 years old—

Father brought home a boy. Little Chen Yu thought he was here to steal her father away. His name was Shen Yan.

Little Chen Yu tried all sorts of ways to to...

Chapter 2 An Awkward World for Two

Chen Yu barely heard what he said; she only knew she had to get back to her room. Without waiting for Shen Yan to continue, she hurried upstairs to her room. Only after closing the door did she let out a sigh of relief. She hadn't realized before how thin Shen Yan was…

I was such a bad person before.

She numbly stood up, lay on the bed, took out her phone from her pocket, and quickly deleted the post she had previously made on the school wall criticizing Shen Yan.

Her thoughts drifted back to 10 years ago, when she first met Shen Yan. He was already quite tall at the age of 8, but Chen Yu had been spoiled by her parents since childhood and had a bad temper. When she heard that Shen Yan wanted to stay at her house, she was furious and insisted that he was her father's illegitimate son, but Shen Yan was not.

Chen Yu's father, Chen Kang, was a policeman, as were Shen Yan's father and mother. The three of them were once very close comrades-in-arms and often went on missions together.

An accident caused 8-year-old Shen Yan to lose both parents, and Chen Kang insisted on taking Shen Yan home.

As a child, Chen Yu didn't understand any of this. She only felt that someone was trying to take away her parents' love, and she refused to accept it no matter what. She even threw chopsticks at Shen Yan at the dinner table and called him the child of a mistress.

Enraged, Chen Kang slapped Chen Yu across the face. "Is this how you speak?!"

Little Chen Yu felt deeply wronged and began to secretly bully Shen Yan from then on, never giving him a kind look. But Shen Yan was sensible; knowing he was living under someone else's roof, he could only try his best to please Chen Yu, using his saved allowance to buy him snacks. However, Chen Yu would throw them in the trash, showing him no respect whatsoever…

Chen Yu started to get irritated thinking about this. She threw down her phone, picked up the doll next to her, and covered her face with it. How could she have been so annoying when she was a child? She really wanted to slap herself to death.

"Chen Yu, I've prepared your meal. Come downstairs and eat."

A deep, stern voice sounded from outside the door. Chen Yu immediately jumped out of bed and opened the door, only to see Chen Yan coming downstairs.

Seeing Chen Yu come down, Shen Yan tactfully took his own bowl and chopsticks to the kitchen, knowing that Chen Yu didn't like eating at the same table with him.

Chen Yu sat on the stool, looking at the dishes in front of her. These were all dishes that Shen Yan had learned to make in order to please her.

"Chen...Chen Yan, come out and eat with us."

Chen Yu's voice sounded a bit awkward, and she even coughed a few times on purpose, pretending that her throat was uncomfortable.

Shen Yan paused, his chopsticks still in his hand. He didn't know why Chen Yu would suddenly make such a request, but he could only comply. He carried his bowl and chopsticks to the dining table and sat down in a corner.

The two ate their meal in silence.

Chen Yu didn't try to play any pranks on him until he finished eating, which surprised Shen Yan a bit, but he didn't bother to think about it too much. As long as he could get through his senior year of high school, he would be free. With his grades, he was sure he could get into a good university.

Chen Yu sat on the sofa watching TV. Tonight marked the start of her vacation, and she began trying to recall what might have happened during the summer. She seemed to recall discovering that Shen Yan was working at a rather nice coffee shop, and that she had gone there several times to humiliate him, perhaps even bringing a few friends with her…

A strong sense of shame welled up inside me.

"If you have nothing else to do, I'll head out now."

Interrupted from her thoughts, Chen Yu turned her head and looked at Shen Yan standing far away at the stairwell. She nodded blankly. Shen Yan picked up the trash and her schoolbag and went out. Although she didn't know what was wrong with Chen Yu, she was fine as long as he didn't play a prank on her.

He closed the door very quietly. Chen Yu felt a mix of emotions. Only now did she realize how cautious Shen Yan had been living here.

The phone rang once.

[Moon: Lao Yu, why did you delete the post criticizing Shen Yan?]

[fish: Um... I just don't want to release it.]

[Moon: Did your dad find out?!]

[fish: No, I just don't want to release it.]

[Moon: Okay, how about a BBQ tonight?]

[fish: With whom?]

[Moon: Jiang Yang, and his gang of cronies.]

[fish: No, I've got things to do!]

After replying to the last message, Chen Yu turned off her phone, got up, went back to her room to change her clothes, grabbed her keys, and went out. The air was rather cold at night, and Chen Yu rubbed her arms, shivering. She should have put on another coat.

He soon arrived at the coffee shop where Shen Yan worked, and Shen Yan was making coffee.

As Chen Yu watched him work diligently, her face unconsciously flushed again. When exactly did she start to like Shen Yan? It was probably during college when she and he unexpectedly got into the same university, something no one had anticipated. Of course, it was a very painful thing for Shen Yan.

At the beginning of her freshman year, Chen Yu, because of her bad temper, offended a local thug. On her way back to the dormitory after going out, she was ambushed. Shen Yan happened to pass by and rescued her. From then on, Chen Yu's feelings for him changed.

Unbeknownst to him, she had been standing at the door for half an hour. When Shen Yan finished washing his hands and turned around, he saw Chen Yu standing at the door. His first reaction was to be stunned, followed by indifference. He didn't know what Chen Yu's purpose was in coming here, so he simply pretended not to see her.

Upon being discovered, Chen Yu immediately turned her back. She began to ponder whether she should apologize to Shen Yan. However, an apology should be accompanied by a gift. She went to the largest shopping mall in Hai City, intending to spend lavishly to buy a belt for Shen Yan. She went into a store to choose one, but the shop assistant didn't seem to want to serve Chen Yu, as she looked like a poor young girl.
