Chapter 60 (First Update) [VIP]
Yin Chu Jiu was awakened by water droplets dripping on his face. The water was icy cold, and the coolness brought him back from his unconsciousness. Opening his eyes, he saw a jagged landscape of stones, their sharp points pointing downwards, with transparent beads of water condensing and falling one after another.
Some drops fell on his face, some on the ground, accumulating into a small puddle.
Staring blankly at the water droplet, Yin Chu Jiu's expression was somewhat dazed, as if he hadn't realized why he had seen that. The icy water droplet dripped onto his face again. He blinked, then sat up with astonishing speed. Memories from before he lost consciousness flooded his mind; he remembered everything.
He's not dead? He's still alive!
After checking his entire body, Yin Chu Jiu was astonished. He only had a few small wounds, nothing else. Where was he? After examining his body, Yin Chu Jiu began to look around at his current location. It seemed to be a cave, a large and dark one, with light shining from not far away, which seemed to be the cave's exit.
Supporting himself on the ground, Yin Chu Jiu slowly stood up, using the stone wall as a stepping stone to walk out. If he wasn't mistaken, he had been sucked into a spatial rift. He had suddenly disappeared, and he wondered how worried Yue Ling would be. He needed to go back, to find Yue Ling. Yin Chu Jiu thought to himself as he walked towards the cave entrance. Suddenly, he kicked something, and stumbled forward, falling to the ground.
Getting up from the ground, Yin Chu Jiu's pupils contracted sharply when he saw a black mass that had tripped him in the darkness. He rushed over and saw Yue Ling, the unconscious Yue Ling. There was blood beneath Yue Ling, blood beneath him, and blood behind him. Yin Chu Jiu followed the blood and found that it continued all the way to the cave entrance. He walked out along the blood trail and then saw a huge black demonic beast at the cave entrance. The beast's belly was ripped open, its eyes were wide open, and it was already lifeless.
It was as if Yue Ling had killed the monster, turned around, but collapsed from exhaustion due to his injuries and the battle. Yin Chu Jiu suddenly understood why Yue Ling, who had entered the rift with him, had separated from him; while he was unconscious, the boy had already protected him despite his own injuries.
Back at the hospital, kneeling beside Yue Ling, Yin Chu Jiu examined Yue Ling's body with trembling hands. He carefully removed Yue Ling's clothes, and as soon as the clothes fell off, he saw the wounds covering his body, and his eyes immediately turned red.
Yue Ling was severely injured; his fair body was torn open with jagged gashes, like gaping mouths, and blood continued to flow from the wounds. In his sleep, Yue Ling's brows were slightly furrowed, as if he was in pain from Yin Chu Jiu's movements. Calming herself, Yin Chu Jiu got up and ran into the cave, tearing her clothes into strips as she ran. Returning to where Yue Ling had been unconscious, Yin Chu Jiu wet the strips of clothing and carefully used them to wipe the blood around Yue Ling's wounds.
After wiping away the bloodstains, he remembered something, took out a ring from his pocket, and then used his divine sense to enter it. After a long while, he took out the wound medicine he had finally found and poured it on Yue Ling's wounds. Yue Ling had many wounds, and it took Yin Chu Jiu almost half an hour to barely treat them all.
Exhausted, Yin Chu Jiu sat down beside him and helped Yue Ling put his clothes back on. He touched Yue Ling's pale face with heartache. Yue Ling's injuries were more serious than the injuries he had suffered in the past ten years. What he could see now were only the surface wounds on his body. The deeper wounds were beyond his ability to detect.
Yue Ling needed treatment. He wasn't a doctor; he didn't know how to treat Yue Ling's injuries or how to examine him. However, he knew how destructive spatial rifts were. An ordinary person entering such a rift would be torn to shreds in an instant. Yue Ling had survived protecting him in that spatial rift; he must have been severely injured.
Only Zizhuo can cure Yue Ling.
Yin Chu Jiu instinctively wanted to use the teleportation array to send them back to where they had been before. However, after taking out the energy stone needed for the teleportation array, he realized that he didn't know how to make one. Without the teleportation array, he and Yue Ling couldn't quickly leave this unfamiliar cave and find Zi Zhuo and the others.
Mo Ling's team includes a master of teleportation arrays who has studied space. Perhaps they can predict where they will roughly land if they enter through that rift, but he can't wait, and neither can Yue Ling.
Gently gazing at the still unconscious boy, Yin Chu Jiu slowly lowered her head and lightly kissed his bloodless lips. Then, resolutely, she bent down and placed the boy on her back.
Yue Ling, I won't let you die.
Carrying Yue Ling on his back, Yin Chu Jiu looked up. The round, large, orange-red sun hung overhead, radiating immense heat. He licked his lips, shifted to the side with Yue Ling on his back to avoid the sun's rays, and continued walking, his long shadow undulating on the leaf-strewn ground.
The boy on his back didn't move at all. Yin Chu Jiu walked forward silently with his head down. Unlike his silent attitude, he walked quickly, moving forward at a speed that wouldn't bump the boy on his back. Before long, their figures disappeared from here and appeared in the distance.
He can't afford to waste time.
A day earlier, Yin Chu Jiu woke up in the cave and found Yue Ling unconscious. He quickly treated Yue Ling's wounds and then led her out of the cave. Once outside, he realized they were in a forest, deep within it. They had some animal-repelling medicine in their storage rings, which would repel wild beasts and keep them away. But the problem was, he didn't know which forest they were in, how to contact Zi Zhuo and Mo Ling, or even how to get out of the forest to find a doctor for Yue Ling.
The forest was too vast, so he could only choose one direction and keep going. He walked for an entire day and night.
Carrying the boy on his back, Yin Chu Jiu didn't stop, only pausing when he was extremely hungry or when changing Yue Ling's bandages. Even when very thirsty, he would only use one hand to drink a few sips of water. Glancing at the sky, Yin Chu Jiu quickened his pace, found a shady spot, sprinkled the animal-repelling medicine around, took out a jug of water, and began to clean Yue Ling's wounds and change his bandages again—when he set out, he had made a makeshift water jug from a tree trunk and filled it with plenty of clean water.
Yue Ling remained unconscious. His face grew increasingly pale, and the bleeding from his wounds continued unabated, staining the cloth red with each wipe. The muscles in his cheeks were taut. Yin Chu Jiu wrung out the cloth, squeezing out the blood. If this continued, Yue Ling wouldn't survive long enough to reach the doctor outside the forest.
No, Yue Ling won't die. He's the protagonist; he won't die. Only he can kill him. What are the protagonist's privileges? Whenever they're in danger, either they escape on their own, or someone comes to their aid. Yin Chu Jiu comforted himself with this thought all day. However, when he heard a sound behind him, Yin Chu Jiu didn't feel joy, but danger. He drew his weapon, turned sharply, and stood in front of Yue Ling. When he saw the creature that had caused the sound, his heart began to race uncontrollably.
The pale-faced girl, carrying a basket on her back and holding a small knife for gathering herbs, faced Yin Chu Jiu.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bother you." The girl was so frightened by Yin Chu Jiu's actions that she almost cried. She hugged the basket on her back in a defensive posture and explained in a tearful voice, "I just saw you here wiping his body. He looked very unwell, so I wanted to ask if you needed any help."
Yin Chu Jiu stared at the girl for a long time before finally saying in a hoarse voice, "Could you please treat me first?" After saying that, he rolled up his sleeve, revealing the wound on it. His wound was also bleeding, exactly the same as the wound on Yue Ling's body.
He didn't let the girl treat Yue Ling directly; instead, he made her treat him first. This wasn't because he wanted to treat himself, but because he didn't trust the girl. He didn't know where she came from, or her background. A girl of unknown origin appearing in the forest—perhaps to her, he and Yue Ling were the ones of unknown origin—but he couldn't allow a stranger to examine Yue Ling.

Because... in fantasy novels, a character who suddenly appears could be there to save the protagonist, or they could be there to kill him. Self-consolation is one thing, but actually facing it is another. This isn't some lighthearted slice-of-life story; it's a life-or-death leveling-up saga.
The girl's eyes widened slightly, and after a long while, she slowly nodded and said softly, "Okay." She seemed to know Yin Chu Jiu's concerns. She carefully approached Yin Chu Jiu, put down her basket, and squatted down to examine his wound. After a long while, she whispered, "This wound was caused by a spatial rift. There is spatial power inside, which is why the wound hasn't healed. I have a medicinal herb here that can slowly remove the spatial power and help you heal."
While the girl examined him, Yin Chu Jiu remained silent, protecting Yue Ling as he did so. When the girl said it could be treated, he allowed her to treat him, while secretly remaining on guard. The girl took a small purple flower from her basket, crushed it, and applied it to his wound. As the purple flower adhered, Yin Chu Jiu felt a sharp pain in his wound, as if something was being drawn out by the flower and slowly disappeared.
Then, his wound went from burning hot to cool, and the blood on his wound visibly disappeared. He was healed. He didn't feel any discomfort.
The girl stared at Yin Chu Jiu, a small smile appearing on her face. "I can help with your treatment."
"Thank you, and I'm sorry." Yin Chu Jiu pursed his lips, apologizing to the girl for his behavior just now. He lowered his sleeves, stepped aside to let Yue Ling behind him pass, and bowed sincerely to the girl, "Please save him."
The girl waved her hand and walked up to Yue Ling, who was still unconscious. Sunlight streamed through the leaves and fell on his face, the dappled light making his skin appear even whiter, almost translucent.
Looking at the boy in front of her, the girl's eyes lit up, and she exclaimed, "He's so handsome!"
