Chapter 3 Get out

Han Hongmei warmly took her hand, and Su Wan remained silent, sitting upright and listening to her performance.

Han Hongmei patted her hand, her voice filled with affection.

"You've lost weight."

Han Hongmei rattled off a bunch of platitudes, trying to bridge the thin mother-daughter bond between them. No matter what Han Hongmei said, Su Wan remained indifferent. Han Hongmei's polite words stuck in her throat, and she couldn't bring herself to say anything more.

After a brief silence, Su Chengde spoke with a smile.

"Wanwan, have a good talk with your mother."

Perhaps thinking that such matters were easier for a mother and daughter to discuss, Su Chengde gave Han Hongmei a look, got up and left.

"Wanwan, Mom has arranged a marriage for you..."

Now, let's get to the main point.

Han Hongmei praised the man for coming from a distinguished military family; both his parents were soldiers who sacrificed their lives a few years ago. Now, the family is small, consisting only of the man and his grandmother.

Their tone was full of praise for the man, as if it was Su Wan's honor to have this marriage, and that losing this marriage would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

If Su Wan hadn't overheard the conversation between the Su couple, she would almost have believed it.

They really are as despicable, stupid, and ruthless as ever!

Throughout the entire semester at school, no one visited her, let alone asked her how she was doing, whether she had enough money, clothes, or was keeping up with her studies.

The purpose of sending her to school was not to teach her anything specific, but simply to let her experience school life.

They kept saying they loved her and wanted to make it up to her, but they left her to fend for herself at school.

Her clothes were patched in every piece, and she patched them herself again and again at school. She was forced to wash clothes for her classmates, and her hands were often bleeding from the frostbite in winter.

Su Qing, with her delicate skin, would suffer if she married into the family; she, with her thick skin, is more suited to endure such suffering.

Seeing that Su Wan didn't speak, Han Hongmei coughed awkwardly and took out a photo and placed it in front of Su Wan.

The man in the photo has a buzz cut, sharp eyebrows, bright eyes, and a straight nose. He exudes a heroic air, and his somewhat cold and aloof face adds to his cool demeanor.

Han Hongmei's eyes flickered as she looked at Su Wan, and she tried to persuade her again, "Wanwan, if you marry him, you won't be mistreated. I've met Xiao Qin, you..."

She frowned. From what they were saying, this wonderful marriage was originally meant for Su Qing, but now they wanted to push her out to marry. Even a fool could tell there was something wrong with that.

She looked at Han Hongmei and asked very seriously.

"Really?"

"Really, really."

Han Hongmei turned her head away awkwardly.

"I'll marry him."

When Su Wan said this, Han Hongmei was stunned. She had a lot of words of advice stuck in her throat, but she didn't expect Su Wan to agree so directly.

The mother and daughter's conversation ended in silence. Su Wan pondered silently in her heart that since the other party was a soldier, his character couldn't be too bad. As long as his character wasn't bad...

Marrying into that family would be better than staying in the Su family.

She turned over and fell into a deep sleep.

The next day, Su Wan heard Su Shikun's incredulous voice.

"Mom, how could you let Wanwan marry Qin Yi? You know perfectly well that Qin Yi is..."

Han Hongmei glared at him, annoyed.

"What can we do if she doesn't marry? We can't just let Qingqing get married!"

"We've already made a promise, so we should keep our word. Besides, if it weren't for the Qin family helping us back then, I'm afraid..."

Upon seeing Su Wan come out, the two tacitly fell silent.

Even though she was mentally prepared, Su Wan's heart still ached terribly when she heard her biological mother speak such a cruel truth so bluntly, and her brother blatantly protect her.

For several days in a row, Han Hongmei seemed to have turned on the switch of maternal love, showing concern for Su Wan, buying her clothes, shoes, and wedding supplies. Su Chengde was even more like a loving father.

Even Su Qing frequently showed goodwill towards Su Wan.

On the sixteenth day of the twelfth lunar month, Su Wan learned that her wedding was scheduled for three days later. Su Shikun returned home excitedly with a radio in his arms.

"Wanwan, do you like it?"

"A wedding gift for you!"

Su Shikun placed the item on the table in front of Su Wan. Su Wan glanced at it and realized that the radio was quite valuable, a rare find.

Before she could speak, Su Qing skipped over and rushed over with a "Wow!" when she saw the radio on the table.

"Brother, this radio is of really good quality. I've wanted it for a long time."

As he turned the switch, a song came from inside.

Su Qing's eyes were full of stars.

"Brother, brother, listen to this, listen to this sound quality, it's so good."

Su Shikun affectionately patted her head and spoke helplessly.

"You're still acting like a child. Hurry up and thank your sister."

Su Qing gave Su Wan a sweet smile.

"Thank you, sis, I really like it."

Su Wan frowned and got up to go back to her room.

Su Shikun frowned as he looked at Su Wan's darkened face.

"What kind of expression is that? You're giving me the cold shoulder over a radio? I bought this radio, what right do you have to give me that cold shoulder?"

Su Wan lowered her eyes, trying hard to suppress the bitterness in her heart.

"The room prepared for me, she said she liked it, and it became hers. The wedding gift for me, she just said she liked it, and you gave it to her without even asking me. Can't I even have any feelings about it?"

Su Shikun glanced at Su Qing with concern, pulled her behind him, and then turned around to scold Su Wan: "For such a trivial matter, you have to make a scene and hurt Qingqing, right? I'm warning you, if this happens again, I will..."

"So you're going to beat me up again?"

Su Qing pulled him with red eyes.
