Chapter 9 The Uninvited Guest

Grandma Qin pushed the dumplings toward Qin Yi: "Try them, the filling is made last night, it smells delicious."

Since Su Wan arrived, Grandma Qin has been beaming with joy every day, and she couldn't stop smiling when Su Wan was mentioned.

Looking at the plate full of dumplings in front of him, Qin Yi felt that Su Wan wasn't so bad after all. The family was gathered around the table, the atmosphere was lively, when someone banged on the door loudly.

Su Wan got up and opened the door.

The door was just opened a crack when a middle-aged woman barged in with a young man about the same age as Qin Yi. The woman had a mean-looking face.

He didn't even look at Su Wan properly, and walked past her with his nose in the air towards Grandma Qin and Qin Yi.

A fawning, obsequious voice rang out.

"Hey, Second Aunt, are you eating?"

The young man's features were somewhat similar to Qin Yi's. Although they looked alike, the two gave off completely different vibes. Qin Yi appeared aloof and righteous.

This young man looked shifty and sneaky at first glance.

The middle-aged woman pulled the young man to sit down, but the young man kept glancing at Qin Yi's expression, seemingly quite wary of him.

Grandma Qin's expression turned ugly the moment she saw the mother and son, and Qin Yi's face was so cold it seemed to freeze over.

The other party gave Su Wan instructions as if they were the master of the house.

"Go and get us two pairs of chopsticks. We haven't eaten yet, so I'll have a bite with my aunt."

With a loud "smack!", Qin Yi slammed his chopsticks down on the table.

He looked up at the young man coldly. "Are you hungry?"

"No, no, I'm not hungry."

The middle-aged woman watched as her son stood up straight immediately after being frightened by Qin Yi. Displeased, she patted her son and pulled him to sit down.

"Xiao Yi, Quan An is your younger brother! How can you talk to your brother like that? No wonder Quan An acts like a mouse before a cat when he sees you!"

Su Wan wasn't sure where the mother and son came from, but judging from their tone, they were relatives of Qin Yi.

Just as Qin Yi was about to retaliate, Su Wan gave him a look and turned to get the bowls and chopsticks.

The mother and son wolfed down their food with chopsticks, finishing almost all the dishes on the table.

After finishing their meal, the two of them let out a satisfied burp. The middle-aged woman wiped her mouth and turned to Grandma Qin.

"Second Aunt, what about what I told you last time? What do you think about it? Look, the New Year is just around the corner..."

"Cuiying, don't go too far!"

Grandma Qin's face turned even uglier.

“Second Aunt, I’m only thinking of you. Look, Xiao Yi’s legs are paralyzed, and he has no descendants. Someone has to inherit this family in the future. Quan’an is someone you’ve watched grow up. He’s handsome and talented, and to be frank, after you pass away, someone has to break the pot for you, right…”

Do you think I'm dead?

Qin Yi spoke in a cold voice, drawing everyone's attention.

His expression was unreadable, yet it made the young man beside him shrink back in fear.

Grandma Qin's sadness was almost overflowing as she held Su Wan's hand.

"Wanwan, this is your great-grandmother's wife and brother Quan'an."

The middle-aged woman was named Wang Cuiying. She was from the branch of Qin Yi's great-grandfather's family. Her great-grandfather had been adopted by someone else when he was a child, but they had always kept in touch. Ever since Qin Yi's legs became paralyzed, Wang Cuiying had her eyes on Qin Yi's family property.

My erythema is flaring up badly.

The last time she came, she tried to persuade Old Madam Qin to have Qin Quan'an adopted by Qin Yi's father, on the grounds that Qin Yi was paralyzed and someone would have to take care of him in the future.

Although the old lady is still quite nimble, she is old after all, and she is only doing it for their own good.

The implication was that Qin Yi was paralyzed and unable to take care of himself, requiring constant care. Rather than letting his family fortune benefit outsiders by marrying him off, it was better to let his own people benefit.

She assured him that Qin Quan'an would be filial to Old Madam Qin and would take good care of Qin Yi.

After her first daughter-in-law ran away, Grandma Qin was almost persuaded by her, but she still held a sliver of hope that she could find a wife for Qin Yi and watch him have a child before she died.

But Wang Cuiying and her son clearly couldn't wait.

Su Wan understood; they wanted to exploit her family's wealth.

Relying on the fact that Qin Yi was paralyzed and couldn't do anything to them, they acted with impunity, backed by their kinship.

Su Wan smiled and poured Wang Cuiying a glass of wine.

"Would you like a drink, ma'am?"

You can't hit someone who's smiling, so Wang Cuiying forced a smile.

"Oh, so this is Xiao Yi's new wife?"

Su Wan remained calm. She had opened the door. Ever since the mother and son entered the house, they had deliberately ignored her, simply because they thought that if she married into the family and gave birth to a son or daughter, their wishful thinking would be in vain.

"Yes, ma'am, would you like some, Quan'an brothers?"

Looking at Su Wan's charming smile, Qin Quan'an blushed and stammered.

"Thank you, thank you, sister-in-law."

Wang Cuiying glanced at Su Wan with annoyance and slapped Qin Quan'an's hand back.

"Is that all the confidence you have? You drink whatever they offer you? You're a grown man, you can't let some vixen bewitch you!"

These words were so pointed that both Grandma Qin and Qin Yi's expressions changed.

Grandma Qin spoke with displeasure.

"Cuiying, I consider you my nephew's wife, and you're still sitting in my house giving Wanwan attitude. Isn't that going too far?"

Grandma Qin was a kind-hearted woman, with a gentle face, who had never argued with anyone in her life. For her to say such things now was already the limit of her ability.

Qin Yi was also on the verge of anger. Even if he and Su Wan didn't have feelings for each other, Su Wan was still his wife in name only.

His men are not for others to point fingers at. The reason they dare to bully Su Wan is because they think his leg is crippled. When his leg was intact, they didn't even dare to raise their voices in front of him.
