Chapter 64: A Gamble

Yun Wanwan was shocked to hear Rong Chengxuan disdained to join them in the digging. If that were the case, she would be wasting a laborer. If she and Ye Lan were alone, it would take forever to dig a path. And Rong Chengxuan was right: they didn't have the tools, which was their most fatal problem.

She immediately changed her stance and stood on Rong Chengxuan's side. She pinched Rong Chengxuan's numb hand in a flattering manner, "Rong Chengxuan, we are counting on you now, so you must not let us down!"

Rong Chengxuan tried many different algorithms but still couldn't figure out how to unlock the wooden lock. Yun Wanwan gradually lost her patience. At first, she could still squat there and calculate with Rong Chengxuan, but after a while, she couldn't figure it out anymore.

As Rong Chengxuan crossed out another set of possibilities, Yun Wanwan's patience completely ran out. She stood up, brushed off the dirt on her body, strode to the wooden door, and said, "Rong Chengxuan, do you want to make a bet with me?"

Rong Chengxuan also stood up and walked in front of Yun Wanwan, looking down at her. "How do you want to bet?"

Yun Wanwan took down four wooden blocks from the pile. "Let's see if I can guess the answer right the first time."

"Okay." Rong Chengxuan agreed to Yun Wanwan's proposal without hesitation. "You've always had good luck, so I'm not worried."

"Do you really want to believe me?" Yun Wanwan raised an eyebrow at Rong Chengxuan when she heard what he said. "Our lives are at stake, Your Highness Prince An. If we misplace a single word, let alone break the formation, the three of us might die right here."

Rong Chengxuan paused and said firmly: "I believe you."

Seeing that he didn't hesitate, Yun Wanwan stopped being hesitant and immediately opened the lid of the wooden lock, preparing to open the door.

But before putting them in place, Yun Wanwan raised her hand and picked up the wooden characters, examining them carefully. After reaffirming her thoughts, she took a deep breath and first picked up the character "one" and placed it on the rightmost side of the empty wooden box. Then, she picked up the character "two" and placed them in the order of "one, two, three, four."

At this moment, Rong Chengxuan and Ye Lan's hearts were in their throats. They held their breath and even paused for a moment, watching Yun Wanwan put in the last digit.

The four words were pushed in, and a clicking sound was heard before it stopped. Rong Chengxuan and Ye Lan waited with bated breath. Yun Wanwan also suddenly became nervous for no apparent reason.

It seemed like only a moment had passed, yet it also seemed like a century had passed. Then, the door shook slightly, made a "click" sound, and slowly opened a small crack.

Yun Wanwan wiped the sweat from her palms onto her skirt, gathered herself, and then raised her hand and gently pushed the door. The previously sealed wooden door swung open, leaving the same narrow path as the one she had taken the first time.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief at the same time, and Ye Lan even jumped up from the ground. Yun Wanwan suspected that if the venue wasn't so narrow, restricting Ye Lan's performance, he might have jumped straight into the sky. Ye Lan blurted out, "Miss Yun is so wise and powerful! Miss Yun is simply amazing!"

Yun Wanwan was also stunned. She hadn't expected the password to be so simple: one, two, three, four. This was the answer she had come up with based on her own thinking. She had thought it was a sure death, but it turned out to be a lucky blunder; she had actually guessed correctly.

The door was already open. Although Yun Wanwan was confident, this was a matter of life and death after all. She pushed the door open and finally breathed a sigh of relief. A long-lost sense of ease appeared in her heart. To be honest, this was more terrifying than taking the college entrance examination at school.

But Yun Wanwan subconsciously glanced at Rong Chengxuan. Seeing him nod, she took the lead and headed inside. The path inside this door led downward, widening as it went down. At first, even holding one's breath and leaning sideways was a bit difficult, but later, striding freely became easy. Even so, the path was incredibly rough, and the sharp, strange rocks on either side were indescribable.

Yun Wanwan didn't know how long she had been walking, but it was already more than she had exercised for the day. Half-crouching and panting, she asked Rong Chengxuan, "How far is it until we reach the end?"

Rong Chengxuan shook his head. "I don't know either. It's just that this tomb is indeed different from other tombs. This is the first time I've seen such a large tomb."

"Rong Chengxuan, is your scope of work so wide?" Yun Wanwan took a breath, calmed herself, and looked at Rong Chengxuan in disbelief. "You've even robbed tombs before! Otherwise, I wonder why you're not afraid of it at all. Others would avoid it if they heard it was a tomb, but you brought Ye Lan and me directly to kill us. You're truly a tomb robber before, you're different."

Rong Chengxuan didn't know when he became a tomb robber in Yun Wanwan's place, and he didn't understand what the scope of his job was.

He clearly knew how to write these words, but when Yun Wanwan put them together, they became meanings that he couldn't understand.

However, he still needed to explain to Yun Wanwan whether he had ever robbed a tomb before. "This was my first time digging into someone else's tomb, and I only read about the size of the tomb in a book."

Yun Wanwan nodded, indicating that she understood everything, and said nothing more.

There was another turn, but it was covered by collapsed rubble.

Rong Chengxuan pulled out the short knife he had tied to his waist for self-defense, found a fulcrum and pried open a few larger stones, barely clearing a passage that was two feet long and wide.

"Let's go," Rong Chengxuan coughed a few times in the flying dust and dirt, then crouched down and crawled in first.

Yun Wanwan was the second one to go in. When she followed Rong Chengxuan in, she tripped over a stone under her feet without noticing.

This made Yun Wanwan start to complain about the owner of the tomb in her heart. She didn't know what was inside the tomb. It was either a mechanism or stones. Even the road was bumpy and difficult to walk on.

After Yun Wanwan entered, she looked up at the space inside and was stunned.

This wasn't a natural collapse; the walls and floor bore strong signs of artificial carving. When Yun Wanwan had followed Rong Chengxuan through the tunnel, she'd considered it might be a sinkhole that had caused the tunnel to collapse. She hadn't expected it to be caused by the tomb's perverted owner.
