"The peace in the Land of Wind has lasted for two and a half years. Are people starting to get restless?"
In the Kazegakure office of Sunagakure, Gaara, having finished processing today's documents, sat at his desk with a cup of tea in hand, his expression somewhat leisurely and serene.
"Indeed, we have heard calls from some Sand Village ninja who want to join the battle, to declare war on Konoha to seize land, or to declare war on Iwagakure to reclaim the wetlands."
Gaara sighed again after hearing Kankuro's words. It seemed that he had only heard some whispers, and the Sand Ninja were probably having a much more heated discussion in private.
Whenever war is mentioned, the image of a blond boy scratching his head and grinning foolishly inevitably comes to mind.
"I see. I didn't expect we'd reached another critical juncture, a choice between peace and war. Naruto-kun, are you aware that war might break out between Konoha and Sunagakure again?"
Gaara was always grateful to Naruto, the one who led him out of darkness, and he deeply understood Naruto's experiences.
After returning to Sunagakure after the Chunin Exams, he changed his previous ways and actively sought to live in harmony with the villagers, quietly contributing to the village. After persisting in this for several months, some villagers' attitudes towards him softened.
Later, he reconciled with Shukaku, the One-Tailed Beast, and was able to sleep peacefully without going insane. He then played a significant role in the border battles against Iwagakure. The Sand Ninja gradually began to treat him as a normal ninja, although they still felt some unease, they no longer viewed him as a monster as before.
As his strength gradually increased, he became one of the top ninjas in Sunagakure, and the curses he used to hear disappeared. Half a year ago, with the assistance of Master Maki and the approval and recommendation of Elder Chiyo, Irara successfully became the Fifth Kazegakure. From then on, he was mostly greeted with smiles.
Although the journey was arduous and full of twists and turns, it was generally smooth sailing. However, Naruto, the person who inspired him, did not seem to have made much progress.
"Naruto-kun, your voice still echoes in my mind as you say you want to become Hokage. It's been almost three years since you left Konoha. I wonder when you'll return to Konoha to fulfill your wish."
Kankuro was quite puzzled by Gaara's conflicted expression.
"Why bother with that blond guy? He's not the one in power in Konoha now. That old guy Hiruzen Sarutobi has given us a lot of good stuff these past two years. In fact, quite a few Sand Village ninja think we can use the excuse of helping Konoha reduce the pressure on the border to squeeze him out of him again, and then take the opportunity to start a war with Iwagakure."
"That's right, the Sand Village is much stronger than before, and that's all thanks to you."
Onoki of Iwagakure is so old, he's almost dead. Konoha seems to have had a lot of trouble since the Chunin Exams; they've been embroiled in border battles with Iwagakure and Kumogakure for the past two years, and their strength has declined considerably. No matter what choice you make, Sunagakure isn't a problem, you don't need to worry.”
Temari, carrying a Samsung fan on her back, stood in front of the desk, looking dashing and confident.
Although Gaara has only been Kazekage for less than a year, the village's environment has improved considerably in that year, and the Sand Village ninjas feel that life in their village has become much more comfortable.
The distribution of various resources and ninjutsu has greatly improved the overall strength of Sunagakure. Temari feels that Sunagakure is now fully capable of facing Konoha or Iwagakure, who are engaged in multiple wars.
Gaara disagreed with Temari's claim of credit. Although he became Kazekage with the support of Elder Chiyo due to his strength, his past actions still caused many Sand Ninja and villagers to harbor doubts and even hostility towards him.
After succeeding as Kazekage, aside from visiting the Daimyo of the Land of Wind to secure some funding, he was essentially just a rubber stamp, mainly doing tasks and assignments.
The village's defense is handled by Jonin such as Maki and Yura. The border guard force is managed by Jonin Fukichi; and intelligence work is overseen by Elder Ebizo.
Even miscellaneous tasks are handled by designated personnel, but many truly important matters still require Elder Chiyo's approval.
He genuinely felt he hadn't done anything, yet the number of missions for Sunagakure inexplicably increased, and relations with the surrounding ninja villages inexplicably improved. Even the village had gained several more elite ninja, and the villagers walking the streets seemed more energetic.
Therefore, Gaara said rather unsure of himself, "But I haven't done anything myself."
Temari immediately encouraged her younger brother, saying, "You are the village's military guarantee. With you in charge, the village's ninjas can go on missions with peace of mind."
Kankuro immediately chimed in, "That's right, the number of missions in Sunagakure has increased significantly. With constant border battles on the Konoha side, and Iwa and Kumo ninjas locked in combat with Konoha, many merchants are choosing to post missions in Sunagakure."
It seems the Daimyo also realized that Konoha's situation was dire and unreliable, so after you took office, you actually increased the budget.
The overall environment of Sunagakure has improved considerably, and many Sunagakure ninja admire you greatly.
After hearing Kankuro's words, Gaara stood up and went to the window, gazing intently at the Sand Ninja running outside the Kazekage Building. A smile appeared on his face, but at the same time, there was a hint of worry.
"I never imagined that the bad situation in Konoha would actually improve our lives."
Kankuro was puzzled by Gaara's sigh. "Gaara, what are you worried about today?"
Gaara turned to his two relatives and said, "Konoha secretly sent an envoy to request our troops to harass Iwagakure on the border, promising a large sum of supplies and ninjutsu resources. Logically, we are allies with Konoha; they are in a bad situation, and we should help them."
