The Rookie Returns: Soaring in the Apocalypse

On the brink of the apocalypse, Zuo Ling is brought back to her distant relatives' Ding family and safely survives countless disasters through the chaos.

However, on the verge of death, s...

Chapter 108 The Polar Night Has Arrived

Zuo Ling became famous overnight.

The owners and tenants of Noah's Ark community heard that a formidable female demon had arrived.

Many young people were warned by their elders never to provoke her, otherwise she would strip them of their clothes and freeze them to death.

Zuo Ling was injured. She didn't feel anything at the time, but later it hurt and swelled up. It wasn't until a week later that she reappeared at the market.

The people around her looked at her with polite distance and a hint of fear, but Professor Jin remained unchanged, as warm as ever.

Zuo Ling did as she pleased, ignoring the opinions of others.

Some wealthy young men, curious about her, would go to her stall and exchange their drinks for something else if they didn't want to buy a beverage.

Suddenly, business was much better than before.

Zuo Ling remembered that the polar night would arrive in a while.

By then, social order will have completely collapsed, and all the evil in human nature will be unleashed. If she doesn't go out now, she won't be able to leave. She has to take advantage of these few days to go out.

I asked Professor Jin, "Do you know how to make fish traps?"

"Yes, the fishing device is very simple. Do you want to go fishing?"

Professor Jin couldn't understand why people would go fishing in such freezing weather. Besides, with temperatures this low, how could there possibly be any fish?

He and Zuo Ling split the supplies equally. Zuo Ling was alone, while he and his wife were the only two people. So, he consumed more supplies than Zuo Ling.

His family has been able to make ends meet for several years, so there's no reason why Zuo Ling would risk going out to fish.

Besides, Zuo Ling also robbed the security guards of a large amount of supplies, so they should be able to last a long time.

"I'm tired of eating frozen food every day and want to change things up. I'll trade you 30 jin of charcoal. If you can catch some fish, I'll give you two live fish as well."

Professor Jin had no objection to the offer of live fish.

He asked Zuo Ling to accompany him back to school to retrieve some spare parts and made a simple version of a fishing device.

The school is building a new building, but it's only half-built. Inside, there are a lot of materials such as steel bars, pipes, stones, bricks, tiles, asphalt, waterproof coatings, cement, and concrete.

While Professor Jin went upstairs to get something, Zuo Ling packed up everything she could.

I had intended to search the campus again to see if I could find any more useful supplies, but seeing that Professor Jin wasn't interested, I simply gave up.

Even if she hadn't been reborn, she would still have harbored illusions about the school reopening.

The next day, Zuo Ling drove his van out early in the morning.

After driving out of the residential area and for a while, just as she was about to find a secluded spot to change out of her Hummer, she had a feeling that there were eyes watching her from somewhere.

They searched all around, but found nothing.

That feeling was unpleasant, so I drove around the city until the feeling of being watched disappeared before heading out of the city.

The feeling of being monitored was very real, and not wanting to expose her secret, she didn't change cars again.

The Bai family's study.

One person reports:

"She realized she was being followed and circled around several times, so our people didn't dare to follow her anymore."

The middle-aged man remained silent for a while, then waved his hand and said, "I understand."

After his subordinate left the study, the middle-aged man muttered to himself, "Little sister, she looks just like you, really like you."

Suddenly remembering something, he dialed a number: "Find a way to get a few strands of Zuo Ling's hair."

Zuo Ling went to Yunshui Reservoir. She had come here to fetch water before and was only familiar with this area.

After heavy snowfall, Yunshui Reservoir is no longer the same as it used to be.

The reservoir was completely covered in white, making it impossible to distinguish one area from another.

Fortunately, she had located the spot when she came to fetch water, and she was able to find the place where she had taken the water using navigation.

To catch fish, you must first clear the snow, and then break the ice.

It was too cold, and Zuo Ling didn't know if there were any fish; she was just trying her luck.

Since we were already here, we couldn't give up, so we resigned ourselves to clearing snow that was several stories high.

Luckily, there's a cheat code for the space; otherwise, I would have been exhausted.

Clear a path wide enough for one person to pass through, then proceed forward and block the way back to prevent anyone from noticing anything amiss.

More than half an hour later, we finally saw the ice surface.

He took out the tiger claw rope, tied one end to a big tree on the shore, and the other end to himself, securing it twice in case of an accident.

Preparations complete, open the ice.

During periods of extreme heat, a large amount of ice is needed, and if there is an opportunity to obtain ice, it should not be wasted.

Using ice-related superpowers to obtain ice is fast and allows for neat cuts.

To prevent people from falling into the ice after taking too much ice, a stepped ice cave was created.

Turning on the fish catcher, a buzzing sound spread in all directions, causing the ice surface to vibrate. Zuo Ling stared nervously at the ice hole.

After a while, a fish surfaced with its mouth wide open, then a second, a third...

It really worked! Zuo Ling quickly took out the fishing net she had prepared earlier to catch fish.

Seeing live fish in temperatures below -70 degrees Celsius is an exciting experience, but unfortunately, there's no one to share it with.

After working for more than two hours and running out of power in the fish catcher, I caught several thousand live fish.

The fish were unusually large, each weighing about four or five pounds, and some even weighing over ten pounds.

Several times, if it weren't for the rope holding her back, Zuo Ling would have almost fallen into the ice cave.

Zuo Ling released the fish into the spatial pool. The fish were initially startled, but quickly adapted to the new environment and swam happily in the pool.

The space was full of seafood, so she had no shortage of food and drink. She came to fish because she felt it was a pity that the pond was empty.

After watching for a while and confirming that I felt no discomfort, I left the space.

It was still early, so I made the most of the time and worked on the ice for over two hours before stopping when I felt mentally exhausted.

On the way back, we hadn't gone far when we encountered a group of robbers.

Two thick trees lay across the middle of the road.

One person rubbed his hands together and breathed on them, saying:

"I saw this truck go by this morning, and it's only coming back now. There must be a lot of supplies on it."

Two other men, carrying large blades, knocked on the left door of the hearse: "Get out, hurry up."
