On the brink of the apocalypse, Zuo Ling is brought back to her distant relatives' Ding family and safely survives countless disasters through the chaos.
However, on the verge of death, s...
Zuo Ling used two jin of white flour, which she had exchanged with Da Baiya, to trade with the property management for half a jin of potato seeds, half a jin of sweet potato seeds, and two small bottles of growth hormone.
The growth promoter is pitifully small, only about 30ml per bottle.
Professor Jin's house is the same as hers.
After changing the items, Zuo Ling said to Professor Jin:
“Things have been a bit unsettled lately. You and Aunt Tang should stay home and not go anywhere. I think those people have strange eyes.”
Even without Zuo Ling saying anything, Professor Jin sensed it, nodded, sighed, and looked very downcast.
Is your door sturdy?
More than 200 disaster victims were placed in the stairwell, coming and going. If anyone colluded with the rioters outside, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Professor Jin said, "I've reinforced it and turned on the power. I'll go back in a bit and weld some more nails."
After a moment's thought, he added, "I changed the password for the fire door. I'll change it for you when we get back."
The fire door password was a major worry for Zuo Ling. She was surprised when the old man said it could be changed.
Then I thought of the way the old man opened the house of the doomsday theorist, and then I felt that changing the password to the fire door was too common.
"What do you want?" Zuo Ling didn't want to take advantage of the old man.
Professor Jin pointed at Zuo Ling with his finger, as if to say, "You, you, we've known each other for quite a while now, yet you're still acting like a stranger."
But knowing Zuo Ling's temperament, he said, "Didn't you ask me for help last time? Let's call it even."
"Let's leave that one for now, please suggest another one."
Professor Jin asked curiously, "What exactly do you want me to help you with?"
"I got a car, a Mercedes-Benz, and I'm worried there might be a GPS tracker on it. I'd like to ask you to take a look."
The car belonged to the Jin family's Spider-Man; the hermit family's methods were astonishing, and there was no guarantee that there wouldn't be any hidden dangers, so Zuo Ling dared not drive it.
Professor Jin's face twitched. He thought to himself, "It must be some unlucky guy who got caught by you." Zuo Ling didn't say anything, and he didn't ask any further questions.
"Do you still have the bamboo rice you gave those two rich kids? Give me two tubes as a thank you."
After hearing his wife tell him what happened in the greenhouse, Professor Jin became extremely curious. What kind of bamboo rice was so delicious that it made the two wealthy young men swallow their pride and ask for some?
Zuo Ling gave Professor Jin four bamboo tubes of rice, plus several bundles of bamboo. She felt uneasy, as the bamboo was for the old couple to make bamboo arrows.
Anyway, the bamboo in the space is growing well and will grow back soon.
Professor Jin not only helped Zuo Ling change the password to the fire door, but also changed the door to be remote-controlled.
More than half a month has passed in the blink of an eye. Apart from training, Zuo Ling spends her time at home tending to potatoes and sweet potatoes.
The potatoes and sweet potatoes had already sprouted, but she didn't keep them in her space to avoid them growing too differently and arousing suspicion.
The seedlings weren't growing very strong; they looked wilted and I was worried they wouldn't survive, so I watered them with some water from the space well.
Zuo Ling went to Professor Jin's house to see his seedlings, and they weren't even as good as the ones she had grown. She was secretly pleased, but at the same time, she was reminded that she could no longer water the seedlings with the well water from her space.
The government distributed relief food again, but it was one-third less than the last time, which caused widespread complaints, but there was nothing that could be done.
The supermarket opened once, but Zuo Ling and Professor Jin and his wife didn't go. Instead, they returned some of the supplies that Professor Jin had stored there to the elderly couple.
People who went there said that prices had doubled, but there was very little to buy.
Every day, you can hear people arguing in the hallway, and there are also many people knocking on the door. They either want to use the toilet, ask for water, or say that the elderly or children can't stand it anymore and ask if they can come inside to warm up.
Almost every household in the building has been disturbed to varying degrees.
The relationship between disaster victims and property owners is becoming increasingly tense.
Occasionally, Professor Jin would call Zuo Ling to complain, and the old woman was always filled with worry.
Zuo Ling repeatedly warned the old man not to open the door, no matter how pitiful the other party's words were, not to let the wolf into the house. The old man agreed while sighing.
Zuo Ling lacked the old man's compassion. Annoyed, she simply switched on the power to the fire door, not pushing the current to its maximum, intending to scare people away.
You don't even need to listen to know that people are cursing her ancestors every day.
Despite it being the polar night, Zuo Ling's daily routine remained largely unchanged.
One day, the waterfall was the first to notice something was wrong.
It jumped onto Zuo Ling's bed, patted Zuo Ling awake with its little paws, looked anxious, and whimpered something.
The little guy rarely does this. At first, Zuo Ling thought it was an earthquake, but upon closer listening, she heard footsteps in the hallway.
Turning on the monitor in the fire escape, I saw a group of people standing outside, each holding sticks or something similar.
Zuo Ling recognized them; they were all disaster victims living in the stairwell.
Knowing that the door was electrified, the disaster victims did not approach the gate, but held up flashlights and carefully touched the keypad.
After pressing the keys for a while without success, the person became annoyed and turned around to ask why the password was wrong.
"There really is a mole in the property management company," Zuo Ling sneered, then turned the switch to its maximum and called Professor Jin.
"Girl, what's wrong?"
Professor Jin was sound asleep when he was woken up, his voice still a little hoarse.
"Someone's trying to break in from outside, be careful."
"Ah, quick, quick, my dear, get up quickly."
Professor Jin was jolted awake, his sleepiness vanished, and he quickly woke his wife.
Researcher Tang was half asleep and it took him a while to fully wake up.
A scream woke up half the building; someone had accidentally touched an electric switch.
He convulsed like someone having an epileptic seizure, and after a little over half a minute, his body went limp and he collapsed to the ground, startling everyone who took several steps back.
Zuo Ling watched the monitor for a while; the people outside couldn't break in anytime soon.
When I got to the south balcony, there was a huge crowd of people outside. So many people entering the community without making a sound—a classic case of collusion from the inside and outside.
The security guards on duty were either all dead or had joined forces with the rioters.
