On the brink of the apocalypse, Zuo Ling is brought back to her distant relatives' Ding family and safely survives countless disasters through the chaos.
However, on the verge of death, s...
Ah San, who had just finished eating wild vegetables, was dragged out of the cage by Pei Nansheng.
Xiao Hao brought a basin of water and some bottles and jars.
Not knowing what they were going to do, the Indian was terrified and struggled desperately, letting out wild roars.
Annoyed by his constant calling, Xiao Hao slapped him across the face and swung his fist.
"I'm treating your injuries, what are you yelling for? If you yell again, I'll beat you up."
Ah San struggled even more fiercely, desperately trying to crash into Xiao Hao, but Pei Nansheng held him down, saying, "I'll hold him down, you take over."
Xiao Hao was bumped on the butt, rubbed his bottom, and angrily kicked Ah San several times, "You don't know what's good for you."
Apart from a piece of skin torn off his shoulder, the rest were minor injuries that were easy to treat.
Ah San watched in horror as Xiao Hao smeared colored substances on his body. His wounds throbbed with pain, but the most painful wound was on his shoulder, which hurt even more than when he was first injured.
Thinking that Pei Nansheng and Xiao Hao were torturing him, A-San yelled and shouted. After treating his injuries, he was fine, but the two brothers were exhausted and covered in sweat.
As soon as he let go, Ah San reached to remove the gauze from his shoulder, but Pei Nansheng stopped him.
Left with no other choice, the two brothers tied Ah San to a cage to keep him from moving around.
Ning Qiang watched the commotion for a while, then kicked the cage and said, "You all meant well, but he doesn't appreciate it. It was all for nothing."
Xiao Hao and Ning Qiang have never gotten along:
"Mind your own business. Go back now. Don't just stand around in my house. Don't you have anything better to do?"
Ning Qiang wasn't going to argue with him: "Hmph, I'll wait and see how he beats you up."
Having said that, he laughed loudly and left.
No one came to rescue Ah San until evening.
Xiao Hao asked, "Could he be the only person on this island?"
"Let's wait and see. If no one comes by tonight, I guess no one else will come."
Unable to understand his brother's logic, Xiao Hao went closer to the cage and poked Ah San with a small stick:
"Hey, where are your buddies?"
The Indian man huddled up like a dead fish, not even lifting his eyelids.
Xiao Hao poked A-San several times as if venting his anger.
Zuo Ling called out, "Alright, Xiao Hao, stop bullying him. Come here and help your sister cook."
Xiao Hao agreed and ran off.
Ah San's eyelids twitched.
For dinner, we had a wild scallion scrambled eggs, a cumin lamb dish, a spicy crab dish, a braised fish dish, a bowl of wild vegetable dumplings, and a large pot of wild vegetable soup.
Zuo Ling had already decided that if an uninvited guest like Ning Qiang came to her door, she would say that she had fried crocodile eggs.
Anyway, you haven't cooked it yourself, so how do you know it's not good?
If it's been overcooked, then there's nothing I can do. That's how it turns out, believe it or not.
I've tried crocodile meat, but it wasn't very good. I've never tried crocodile eggs, but I'll have to try them sometime.
As for cumin lamb... just say it's cumin rat meat, sea crab, or braised fish. You don't even need to make up a lie.
Even though people came down from the boat during the day but didn't come towards the wooden house, Zuo Ling still felt very uncomfortable, as if countless eyes were watching them.
I want to build a yard around my treehouse, but what's the point of living by the sea?
The point is to enjoy the view of the sea, the warmth of spring, and blooming flowers. Building a fence around it would be such a waste of the scenery.
Sigh. Oh well, just be careful, it's nothing serious.
She slurped up a mouthful of wild vegetable soup and looked at the wooden cage, just in time to see Ah San peeking at her.
Having been discovered, the Indian man hurriedly closed his eyes.
Just now, he saw a woman patting the head of a boy she disliked. The woman's eyes were curved, and she was smiling very gently.
At that moment, he felt a pang of jealousy towards the boy.
How awful! Boys are so annoying, why are some people so nice to them!
When he opened his eyes again, he saw a pair of sneakers in front of him. He recognized them; the woman was wearing the same kind of shoes.
Zuo Ling squatted down and looked at A-San.
Ah San bared his teeth at Zuo Ling, trying his best to put on a fierce face.
Zuo Ling brought over a plate of wild vegetable dumplings and a bowl of wild vegetable soup: "Would you like some?"
Swallowing hard, Ah San couldn't understand the woman's language, but he knew she was asking him if he wanted to eat.
I want to! I really want to!
My stomach rumbled loudly, and my face flushed red—an emotion I had never felt before.
She turned her head to the side, trying hard not to look at the tempting food.
Click, the cage door opened, and the vegetable dumplings and soup were brought in.
The aroma of the food wafted into his nose, but Ah San awkwardly kept his head down, refusing to look.
Click, the cage was locked again, and the rope was released as the hand loosened.
After stretching his arms and legs, Ah San looked up at the woman in surprise.
Zuo Ling smiled but didn't say anything, then turned and left.
He spotted Xiao Hao at a glance. Xiao Hao was holding a vegetable dumpling, raised his fist at him, and said something, but he couldn't understand what he said.
Looking at the vegetable dumplings and soup, my stomach started growling again.
He pounced on her, grabbing a vegetable dumpling in each hand. Just as he was about to put it in his mouth, his gaze fell on the woman. The firewood crackled and the flames flickered, casting a light on the woman's face and making her features appear even softer.
She took small bites of the vegetable ball, laughing and talking, and she looked absolutely beautiful.
I suddenly felt very inferior, and I started to imitate women, swallowing food in small bites. Even when I picked up a vegetable ball or held a bowl, I was imitating women.
It took twenty times longer to finish a meal.
The woman turned her head, startling the Indian man so much that he dropped the vegetable dumpling without even picking it up.
The woman glanced over casually before turning back to talk to the boy.
The food suddenly lost its flavor, and no matter how hungry I was, I didn't want to eat it.
The Indian man threw the unfinished vegetable dumplings far away and pushed the bowls and plates as far away from him as possible.
A family by the firewood chatted and laughed, their warmth almost blinding, and no one noticed the poor little guy locked in the cage.
A wave of discomfort washed over him in his lower abdomen. Ah San frowned, stuck out his rear end, and thought…
