The Rookie's Rebirth Chronicle in the Apocalypse

Season Yueyao vowed that if given a second chance, she would never again walk while reading a book—because that was literally courting disaster!

This tragic tale of time-travel sees her quest...

Chapter Seven: The Small Dormitory

"Heh, but it's you who's left here now." Kachi sneered. She had two small dimples when she smiled. Although her skin was a bit dark, she looked quite cute. However, her sneer at this moment gave people a sense of oppression.

Ji Yueyao stood there awkwardly. She couldn't go to her bed, and there was nowhere to sit. Her feet were aching, but she didn't have a chance to speak. She could only listen to the two arguing and continue to feel awkward.

After arguing with Wu Qianqian for a while, Kaqi seemed to notice Ji Yueyao. Seeing her helpless look, she frowned and said, "Why are you still standing here? Aren't you tired? Go to your bed."

Ji Yueyao then had a chance to nod and climb onto her bed.

Kaqi looked at Ji Yueyao with some complicated feelings, then frowned, turned off the light, and crawled into her own bed.

"Don't show your ID card to just anyone next time."

Upon hearing this, Ji Yueyao was taken aback and instinctively turned around to look, only to find that Kaqi had already crawled back into her bed. After a moment of silence, she also lay down on her own bed.

All the muscles in her body seemed to relax. Ji Yueyao stared blankly at the ceiling, stretched out her hand and found that she could not straighten her hand and could touch the roof in an instant.

Exhausted, she lay in bed but strangely found herself wide awake. She blinked, but couldn't see anything in the pitch-black room.

Is all of this really true?

Ji Yueyao closed her eyes, the question swirling in her mind. She had to admit, everything happening now was incredibly bizarre. She was just a high school student, and suddenly she found herself in a post-apocalyptic world. This novel-like plot was truly beyond her comprehension.

She was well aware of her own abilities. Her physical condition was average, and she didn't have any special abilities. Even her grades in school were just average. Why would such an ordinary person like her end up here?

Saving the world? Don't be ridiculous, that's a really lame joke.

Ji Yueyao couldn't understand it; perhaps everything would be alright after a good night's sleep.

Time travel is something that shouldn't even exist in real life.

"May she wake up in her own home," Ji Yueyao yawned. Finding no pillow, she took out her wallet and used it as a pillow. She opened her eyes a few times but finally fell into a deep sleep and slept soundly through the night without any dreams.

"Bang—"

Ji Yueyao was jolted awake; the loud slamming of the door had left her momentarily disoriented.

Blinking, Ji Yueyao saw the ceiling that seemed so close to her. Hesitantly, she reached out her hand, but as expected, she couldn't straighten it. She was still in this unfamiliar world.

Suddenly my nose stung, and tears welled up without warning.

She's still in this world, but she hasn't gone home. Perhaps she really will never go back. She'll never see her family again.

"Hmm..."

"Wu Qianqian, are you trying to smash the door down?! Ah... never mind, Ji Yueyao, since you're awake, get up quickly." Kaqi's voice suddenly rang out from below, "Do you have any plans for today?"

"No...no." Ji Yueyao wiped away her tears, swallowing the sob that hadn't yet escaped her throat.

She had never lived in a dormitory before, and now that there was someone else in her sleeping place, she was a little unaccustomed to it. Moreover, the bed board didn't have a mattress, and lying on the hard wood was indeed a challenge.

I was too tired yesterday to notice it much, but now that I'm awake, it's very clear.

"No?" Kachi frowned, looking at Ji Yueyao lying on the top floor, and said coldly, "I've been wanting to say this since yesterday, you're new here, aren't you?"

Ji Yueyao got up, her legs a little sore. "Yeah, I just got here yesterday."

"Phew, I knew it. Xiao Yaru was the same way back then..." Kaqi leaned against the door, muttered something, then poured some water from the kettle and drank it all in one gulp. "You don't have any points yet, right?"

Seeing that Kaqi didn't seem impatient, Ji Yueyao mustered her courage and answered softly, "No, what are points for?"

"..." Kachi looked at Ji Yueyao as if she were looking at an alien. "Okay, points are the points you can exchange for things at the Xiyu Base. The higher your points, the better the things you can exchange for."

"Can points be exchanged for anything?" Ji Yueyao felt it was strange that she was looking down at Kaqi, so she carefully climbed down the stairs next to her.

“As long as you have enough points, you can exchange for anything available at the Xiyu Base.” Kaqi watched Ji Yueyao climb down, then turned around and opened the door. Otherwise, it would be quite uncomfortable for both of them to stand in this cramped space. “At the same time, you can also exchange for alien cores to facilitate missions when you go out.”

"What is a heteronucleus?" The question she didn't ask yesterday, she finally asked today.

"God, are you from another world?" Kachi covered her face helplessly. She had seen it yesterday. Ji Yueyao was like a child who had never left home. He was low on guard, cowardly, and ignorant. How could such a person survive in the apocalypse?

In a sense, Kaqi also revealed why Ji Yueyao was so ignorant.

"I can't remember anything." Remembering that Sister Qiao had said she had amnesia, she decided to respond with that. She really didn't have the courage to tell others that she had traveled from another time.

"You're really pitiful." Kachi didn't doubt it and glanced at Ji Yueyao with some pity. "You're eighteen this year, right?"

"Yes." Ji Yueyao nodded. It was all written on her identity card, right?

“I’m nineteen this year, you can just call me Kachi. I’m a reserve member of the third team in the life department, so giving you this newbie some basic information is just my training.” Kachi glanced at Ji Yueyao, then looked out at the corridor, lowering her eyes to hide her disappointment. “You just asked what a heteronucleus is, right? A heteronucleus is a substance extracted from the core of the bodies of heterohumans, heteroplants, and heterobirds. In this era, we use heteronucleus as currency.”

"As currency? Aren't there points?" Ji Yueyao looked at Kaqi's profile and bit her lower lip slightly. Kaqi seemed to be looking at her just now, but she always felt that she was looking at someone else through her.

“Points are only used in the Western Base. Now that the four major bases are not on good terms, how can points be used universally?” Kachi shook his head. “But alien nuclei are different. They are a globally used currency. According to their color, alien nuclei are divided into six colors: black, gray, purple, red, yellow, and white. The lighter the alien nuclei, the higher its value. At the same time, the lighter the alien nuclei, the more difficult it is to obtain.”

Perhaps Ji Yueyao was now truly experiencing the real world, and perhaps she had already given up hope of going home. She was now only eager to understand how difficult it was here.
