Season Yueyao vowed that if given a second chance, she would never again walk while reading a book—because that was literally courting disaster!

Chapter Thirty-One: The World Now

You can't blame Wei Kang for being tongue-tied; he's never actually comforted a girl before.

However... Wei Kang squatted down in front of Ji Yueyao and sighed helplessly. Looking at Ji Yueyao like this, even if he could say the most beautiful things, it probably wouldn't make any difference.

"Hey, if it's something so important, how could you lose it?" Wei Kang couldn't stand her pitiful look, so he stood up and said with a pout.

"I..." Ji Yueyao opened her mouth, but couldn't say anything. That's right, if she had been more careful and paid more attention to her bag, her things wouldn't have been lost.

In her previous world, it didn't matter if she was a little careless, because her parents would always clean up her messes at home, and her teachers would take responsibility at school. But here... who would clean up her messes? Only herself.

Her mother used to tell her that her carelessness would eventually ruin her life, but she always ignored her mother's advice and complained about her nagging. Now, where is she going to find her only family photo?

"It's all my fault..." Ji Yueyao buried her face tightly in her arms, her soft voice filled with self-blame and pain.

Wei Kang scratched his head in frustration. Damn it, he really didn't know what to say!

"Woman, I'll ask around for you again." Wei Kang roughly pulled Ji Yueyao up, looking at her distraught state, he wanted to punch her to wake her up. "Ji Yueyao, the thing is already lost. What's the use of you being so sad and distraught here? We can ask around and look for it. If we really can't find it, just take it as a lesson!"

Wei Kang glared at Ji Yueyao, grabbed her arm, and dragged her towards their residence. His grip was so strong that it left a red mark on Ji Yueyao's fair arm. "The competition is the day after tomorrow. Now you go back and rest. As long as the things are here, we can always find out! Ji Yueyao, I don't care what kind of life you lived before, but listen to me here: if you want something, fight for it yourself, find it yourself. Don't act like you're so pathetic. You're pathetic because you don't try. So take that pitiful look away; it makes me want to vomit!"

Ji Yueyao followed Wei Kang blankly, seemingly unable to come to her senses. However, there was no doubt that Wei Kang's words had indeed sounded an alarm for her. She kept thinking about the world before, the world before, that damned world before. She was living in this world now, and it had nothing to do with her world before!

Having lived here for more than three months, she only now truly realized that she was Ji Yueyao living in the apocalypse, not the Ji Yueyao living a peaceful life in peacetime.

But...she lived there for eighteen years, and now she's suddenly in another world...

Ji Yueyao lowered her head, her mind seemingly in turmoil. She took a deep breath to sort out the jumbled thoughts in her mind, then looked up and broke free from Wei Kang's hand. She touched the red marks on her arm, hummed softly, and then reached out to grab his hand again.

Wei Kang was taken aback, looking at the tiny hand in his palm, a strange feeling rising in his heart.

"Hey, look what you did to my arm." Ji Yueyao gripped Wei Kang's hand tightly, pointing to the red marks on her arm with her other finger.

Following Ji Yueyao's finger, Wei Kang immediately noticed the purplish-red marks on her arm and frowned. Had he scratched her that hard?

"Woman, you deserve it. Who told you to have such delicate skin?" Wei Kang snorted twice, then turned his head away somewhat guiltily. "What, not giving me that soul-lost look anymore?"

Ji Yueyao sighed and walked forward side by side with Wei Kang. "Thank you, Wei Kang."

Thank you for making me realize that I am indeed a newbie right now, and thank you for helping me see the world I live in clearly.

Wei Kang rubbed his arms as if he had seen a ghost. "Woman, how cheesy! It's disgusting. Did you take the wrong medicine?"

"..." Ji Yueyao glared fiercely at Wei Kang. She knew this guy would never say anything nice!

Both of them remained silent for a moment. Perhaps because it was getting dark, the military area was very quiet.

"Are you still going to look for photos?" Wei Kang asked suddenly, looking at Ji Yueyao's profile.

"I'll go look for it tomorrow, and if I still can't find it, I'll look for it after the competition."

"What if we still can't find it?" Wei Kang asked again.

Ji Yueyao fell silent, then reached out and twisted Wei Kang's arm. "You really want me to not find it? Let me tell you, if I still can't find it, I'll keep searching at the Xiyu base. One day I'll find it!"

Wei Kang winced in pain, but the worry in his eyes had lessened considerably. "Yes, we'll find it someday. Just make sure you, this careless woman, don't lose it again."

Upon hearing this, Ji Yueyao looked up at Wei Kang and saw that his slightly childish face was full of seriousness. She raised an eyebrow and said, "By the way, I really didn't remember if I didn't think about it. You seem to be three years younger than me."

"..." Wei Kang's face twisted for a fraction of a second before he looked at Ji Yueyao provocatively, "But my strength is three times that of yours."

"..." Ji Yueyao remained silent, and then the two began their verbal sparring again.

"Hey, Wei Kang, do you think we'll keep arguing like this forever?"
