With her eyes open, she was faced with a mud-brick house and a strong, rough man. Xia Lan was bewildered.
She discovered she had actually returned to the 1970s, becoming an orphan who had jus...
After Xia Lan told the flight attendant everything, the flight attendant called another flight attendant, who kept an eye on the man next door, and then they took the woman and child away.
The couple next door and several others who had lost their belongings followed the flight attendant.
“I never expected them to be thieves.” Sudan came to Xia Lan’s side and whispered.
"Thank goodness you reminded me to keep my things close to my body, otherwise I might have lost my money too."
Sultan was still shaken. She couldn't afford to lose her money; if she did, she wouldn't be able to go home, and how would she survive in the capital?
Xia Lan patted Sudan on the shoulder.
"Be careful in everything you do outside. That woman might have accomplices. Did you see her come from another carriage?"
Sudan thought for a moment and shook his head.
"I just fell asleep. If your voice hadn't woken me up, I probably would still be asleep!" Sultan lowered her head; she had just been sleeping soundly.
If it weren't for Xia Lan, she probably wouldn't even know what had happened.
Xia Lan nodded slightly, whispered something to the Sultan, whose eyes lit up and immediately nodded.
"Don't expose yourself. Just occasionally fetch water to check things out," Xia Lan instructed Sudan.
Sudan nodded and smiled.
"Don't worry! I understand."
While the flight attendant was questioning the woman and child, Xia Lan calmly gazed out the window, while the wife of the couple opposite her looked at Xia Lan.
"Did you already know they had something going on?"
The sudden question startled Xia Lan, who turned to look at his wife.
Are you talking to me?
"Of course, if you didn't already know, how could you have found out about the woman and her son's problem so quickly?"
The woman's words made Xia Lan smile.
"Is it that hard to find out they have a problem? You just need to observe them carefully!"
Xia Lan raised an eyebrow and sized up the woman.
Her face was pale, she looked weak and powerless, and even her lips were an abnormal dark purple. She clearly looked sick. Combined with what the man had just said, they had taken their only money to the capital to find a good doctor to treat the woman.
"For example, Comrade, you must be sick and want to go to the capital for treatment, right?"
Xia Lan's words made the woman's eyes widen in disbelief. She hadn't said anything, so how could she know that Xia Lan was there to see a doctor?
How did you know?
“It’s obvious! You look sickly, and you’re weak and frail. Your husband just said that it was money you spent on medical treatment. Putting all that together, it’s clear that you’re the one who’s sick. You’ve spent all your income trying to get treatment at a good hospital. Am I right?”
Xia Lan listed them out one by one, telling the woman her thoughts.
The woman looked at Xia Lan with shock and fear, as if Xia Lan were a mind-reading monster.
"This young lady's analysis is excellent, and her insight is sharp!" An old gentleman carrying water passed by, heard Xia Lan's words, stopped, and couldn't help but praise her.
"Thank you for the compliment." Xia Lan glanced at the old man.
He was wearing a Zhongshan suit and round-framed glasses, exuding the air of a scholar and gentleman; he must have been a highly learned and wise man.
"Are you a student going to register for university?" The old gentleman looked at Xia Lan with appreciation. Such a perceptive woman, intelligent and with a calm demeanor that indicated she had everything under control.
It's so captivating that you can't take your eyes off it.
Xia Lan nodded gently.
"Are you a teacher at a school in Beijing?"
"You can tell that too?"
A glint flashed in the old man's eyes. He had never mentioned his teacher at Beijing University. How did she figure that out?
Xia Lan offered no explanation this time, only offering a faint smile and remaining silent.
The old man smiled slightly as he looked at Xia Lan.
See you at school.
See you at school.
Xia Lan nodded to him, and the old man, carrying his water cup, returned to his bunk with a faint smile.
"Old Lin, what happened to make you so happy?" A young man looked at Old Lin, rarely seeing a smile on his face.
"I've met a promising talent; perhaps we'll meet again someday." Old Lin glanced at the male comrade accompanying him and sat back down on his bed.
“A person who can catch Old Master Lin's eye must be an extraordinary individual,” the man said confidently.
Old Lin calmly raised his water glass and took a sip of tea.
After the old man left, the woman glanced at Xia Lan twice, then pursed her lips and remained silent.
Xia Lan didn't care what she was thinking and calmly leaned against her bunk, looking at the scenery outside.
There are no tall buildings on flat land, no bustling traffic, just a sea of green as far as the eye can see, and you can even see the village not far away where everyone is working hard to plow in the spring.
A beautiful spring scene; Xia Lan would have been very happy in the past.
Right now, aside from feeling that it looks 'good', she doesn't feel particularly happy.
Qin Yu's face suddenly appeared before her eyes, but he disappeared again in the blink of an eye.
Xia Lan patted her cheeks.
I never imagined I'd experience lovesickness one day.
A commotion erupted from the carriage in the distance, as if a disturbance had broken out.
Xia Lan heard words like "beat her to death," "thief," and "send her to the police" mixed in with the voice, and figured that the woman had finally admitted to what they had done, which aroused public outrage.
The people who had lost their things were pressuring the woman to return them, but the woman insisted that the things were not with her.
When people asked her where the things were, she kept her head down and remained silent.
If she doesn't say anything, there's nothing anyone can do about it.
The train couldn't stop moving, so they had to wait until the next station to hand the women and children over to the railway police.
The person who lost their belongings then asked to search all the carriages. The woman hadn't left the train before, so their things must still be in the carriage.
Everyone cooperated with the inspection, including Xia Lan. However, no one wanted to check her, because if Xia Lan hadn't discovered the child rummaging through things, no one would have known their belongings were missing.
Xia Lan insisted on this. "Even if I discovered it first, I can't be skeptical. Let's investigate!"
Upon hearing Xia Lan's words, the flight attendant stepped forward and, in front of everyone, rummaged through all the belongings, finding none of their lost items.
With suspicion cleared, everyone looked at Xia Lan with even more kindness.
They continued searching the neighboring houses, checking each one individually, as if no one was a suspect.
Everyone was very annoyed that they couldn't find the item.
At that moment, Xia Lan saw a man take advantage of everyone's attention being focused on searching for something, turn around and sneakily walk to the other side.
Xia Lan glanced at the man and exchanged a look with Sudan.
Sultan pretended to go to the toilet. The man glanced at Sultan, but seeing that she was a woman, he ignored her.
Xia Lan got up and walked to the male flight attendant who was standing in the corridor watching people search their bags, and gently tugged at his clothes.
"Flight attendant, that man is suspicious. While everyone else was looking for their things, he was the only one sneaking off towards the restroom."
