With her eyes open, she was faced with a mud-brick house and a strong, rough man. Xia Lan was bewildered.
She discovered she had actually returned to the 1970s, becoming an orphan who had jus...
Have you noticed any particular flavors you've been craving lately?
Qin Yu held Xia Lan in his arms, recalling what the aunties in the village had once said.
"I heard from the older women that if someone likes sour food, they're a son, and if they like spicy food, they're a daughter."
Qin Yu usually cooks light meals, which Xia Lan enjoys immensely. Moreover, he noticed that while most of the young wives in the village felt nauseous during pregnancy, Xia Lan, aside from feeling a little nauseous, didn't seem to vomit.
This left Qin Yu wondering whether the child in her belly was a boy or a girl.
None of what they said matches Xia Lan!
"I feel fine! I don't seem to have any particular feelings!"
Xia Lan thought about it. She was four months pregnant, and she really didn't have any special changes in her taste. She just felt a little sleepy and nauseous at the beginning.
Four months have passed now, and she still doesn't feel anything special.
Do you prefer a boy or a girl?
Xia Lan looked at Qin Yu expectantly.
Qin Yu chuckled and ruffled Xia Lan's hair.
"What nonsense are you talking about! I'll love any child you give birth to, whether it's a boy or a girl!"
Qin Yu looked at Xia Lan.
"If it weren't for you, I might have lived my whole life like this, in Shanghe Village, just like that forever!"
Qin Yu's words made Xia Lan's heart skip a beat, and she shook her head in disapproval.
"No way, you'll get married and have kids!"
Xia Lan looked at Qin Yu, who gave her a deep look and smiled slightly.
He didn't tell her that he had no intention of getting married before he met her.
But she wouldn't believe me even if I told her.
Qin Yu hugged Xia Lan, saying, "This is good enough."
He had just touched Xia Lan's abdomen...
Qin Yu's hand was kicked.
The two looked at each other excitedly.
It moved!
"That was quite a bit of force!"
Qin Yu sighed, his heart once again tipping towards his son.
With that kind of force, it's quite possible that it's a boy.
"You also think it will be a son?"
Xia Lan could tell from Qin Yu's expression that he also thought it was a boy.
"You think it's a daughter?"
Qin Yu certainly wanted a daughter, a delicate and adorable little girl like Xia Lan.
“I have a feeling it will be a daughter, but people say that this feeling can be the opposite, so I’m not sure.”
Xia Lan wasn't entirely sure, but her intuition told her it was a daughter.
Unlike in later generations, we don't have ultrasound now. Medical technology is not advanced enough. If we had an ultrasound, we could just go to the hospital and have one done to find out if it's a boy or a girl.
"So you've prepared all white clothes for the children? Just so that both boys and girls can wear them?"
Qin Yu knew that Xia Lan had prepared a bag of children's clothes; he had seen them and they were mostly white.
"Yes! This way, both sons and daughters can wear it."
Xia Lan smiled, revealing her teeth.
"Am I smart?"
"You're so smart, the smartest one."
Qin Yu smiled.
After the last class, many students started packing their things, eager to go home and help their families with the autumn harvest as soon as the holiday started. Zhao Pandi and Su Dan were no exception.
Sudan, in particular, lives far away, and this trip home just happened to coincide with her return.
Wu Shishi's family lives in Beijing, so she wasn't nervous.
"This summer vacation, I'll be home helping with chores. We won't be back until September! By then, you'll be almost seven months pregnant, right?"
Zhao Pandi looked at Xia Lan and said reluctantly.
"Yes!" Xia Lan nodded, rubbing her belly.
"I'll bring you some milk curds from my hometown later!"
Sudan said happily to Wu Shishi and Xia Lan.
It would be a lie to say I wasn't excited when I heard I was going home.
We'll take you there!
Xia Lan and Wu Shishi said in unison, and then they exchanged a knowing glance.
"Please don't! There will be so many people at the station! You're pregnant, I beg you, please don't go through all this trouble! My heart can't take it! Please don't hurt my goddaughter!"
Zhao Pandi was the first to disagree with Xia Lan going.
"And you! The train station is so dangerous now, there are still human traffickers there! And you still go!"
Sudan also stared at Wu Shishi.
“…Eek.”
The two looked at each other and lowered their heads in grievance.
After cleaning up the school, the holiday officially begins.
Xia Lan became the class's "ceramic baby," and no one wanted her to do any work. They regarded her as a mascot, and she could just sit there and wring out a towel for them.
When Qin Yu came to pick up Xia Lan, he immediately became the target of everyone's criticism.
"Come on, this is your wife's job. I've already done it for her. The rest is wiping the blackboard, which is yours to do!"
When a female classmate saw that Qin Yu was 1.9 meters tall, she handed him the blackboard eraser without saying a word.
She's only 1.56 meters tall, and even with all her effort, she couldn't reach the spot.
Qin Yu nodded, took the blackboard eraser, and finished erasing it in no time.
"Being tall is an advantage!"
The female classmate glanced at Qin Yu's long legs and was extremely envious.
"Come here, Xia Lan's husband, come and help us clean the glass up here! I can't reach it."
Another female classmate immediately waved to Qin Yu, signaling him to come and help.
She had already stacked two chairs, but she still couldn't reach it.
Qin Yu took the towel from her and wiped the top glass by simply stepping on a stool.
"alright!"
"Xia Lan, you should have sent your husband over sooner! Look, he's only been here a short while and he's already done all the hardest work for us!"
