With her eyes open, she was faced with a mud-brick house and a strong, rough man. Xia Lan was bewildered.
She discovered she had actually returned to the 1970s, becoming an orphan who had jus...
Xia Lan glared at Qin Yu, but ultimately felt sorry for him and allowed him to hold her while she slept.
Qin Yu held Xia Lan in his arms, overjoyed.
Holding Xia Lan in his arms, Qin Yu fell asleep in no time.
Xia Lan looked at the dark circles under his eyes and pinched his cheek.
The next morning.
When Xia Lan and Qin Yu walked out of the room hand in hand, Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan glanced at them and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Mom and Dad have finally made up."
The two little ones looked at each other and, imitating their parents, held hands and walked towards the restaurant.
"Grandma, Grandma, Mom and Dad have finally made up!"
Tuantuan yelled at the kitchen.
"Oh! Really? That's great!"
Xiao Yuqin came out with breakfast and couldn't help but smile when she saw the two of them looking affectionate again.
Finally, I can breathe a sigh of relief.
Is it really that exaggerated?
Xia Lan didn't expect Xiao Yuqin and the others to act this way. Their previous argument had even affected them.
"Oh my daughter, when things aren't going well between you and Qin Yu, we're all afraid to even breathe loudly, don't you think?"
"That's right, Dad has a cold and unhappy face every day."
"Mom also had a blank expression and never smiled, which made us afraid to speak loudly."
"Yuanyuan and I even thought about what we would do if you two broke up!"
Tuantuan and Yuanyuan glanced at the two of them and said seriously.
"I'm sorry to have worried you."
Xia Lan said embarrassedly, it was clearly a matter between her and Qin Yu, she didn't expect to make them worry too.
"What are you embarrassed about? It was this kid's fault to begin with! I also think he went too far!"
Xiao Yuqin said to Xia Lan, then patted Qin Yu on the shoulder, and Qin Yu immediately responded.
"It's my fault. I shouldn't have angered my wife."
Qin Yu apologized sincerely.
Xia Lan gave him amusement.
"Oh, so you've finally made up? If you hadn't, your mother would have kicked me out to sleep in the living room with Qin Yu!"
Qin Jun came out after getting dressed and joined their conversation.
"I have an early meeting today, so you two can pick up Tuantuan and Yuanyuan!"
Qin Jun smiled at the two of them.
"You're leaving already? Aren't you going to eat breakfast?"
Xiao Yuqin noticed how nervous Qin Jun was, which was quite unusual.
"I'm not eating anymore."
Qin Jun left in a hurry.
"That old Qin!"
Xiao Yuqin muttered something to herself.
After breakfast, Xia Lan and Qin Yu each took one child by the hand and sent them to school.
Tuantuan and Yuanyuan walked in the middle, happily skipping and jumping.
As they approached the school gate, a boy dressed in patched clothes caught Xia Lan's attention.
"Li Xiaotian." Tuantuan happily let go of Xia Lan's hand and greeted the boy.
The boy paused when he heard Tuan Tuan's voice, turned around stiffly, and gave Tuan Tuan a stiff smile.
"Is your smile much better today?"
Tuan Tuan laughed.
Xia Lan looked at Yuan Yuan, and Yuan Yuan said to Xia Lan.
"His name is Li Xiaotian. He is the poorest kid in our class. He was always quiet before, so no one paid attention to him until he outran Tuantuan in PE class. Tuantuan insisted on being his friend."
Yuanyuan said to Xia Lan that he didn't say anything about Tuantuan's choice, but he did notice the occasional injuries on Li Xiaotian's body.
"Mom, will you and Dad hit me?"
Yuan Yuan suddenly asked.
Qin Yu was stunned.
He did want to hit them, but these two kids had never done anything that warranted his violence.
Xia Lan, on the other hand, never advocated hitting children, so Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan's childhoods were still incomplete.
"Why would I hit you if there was nothing wrong?"
Qin Yu pinched the round cheek.
Yuanyuan glared at Qin Yu, then turned to look at her mother.
"Won't."
Xia Lan chuckled. She didn't believe that hitting children would make them truly obedient.
What they fight back with is only temporary; it's just that they didn't have the chance to fight back when they were young, and it's not good for their physical or mental health.
Why are you asking that? Did you see something?
Xia Lan, holding Yuan Yuan's hand, asked softly.
Seeing that Tuantuan kept surrounding Li Xiaotian and chattering away, Li Xiaotian was very patient and responded to Tuantuan.
“He fell last time, and I saw it on him…”
Yuanyuan didn't know what to say.
I thought about it.
"There was a dark area, and he wouldn't let me look at it closely."
Yuanyuan felt like she had been punched and bruised, but it didn't look like an ordinary bruise.
"The teacher said his father was a hero in the army and died on the battlefield."
"His mother missed his father so much that she got sick and died."
"Everyone says he's an orphan and won't play with him..."
Yuanyuan continued.
Qin Yu was stunned for a moment, then turned to look at Yuan Yuan and asked.
What's his father's name?
"The teacher said his name is Li Xiao."
Yuanyuan looked at Qin Yu, who, upon hearing the name, then looked at Li Xiaotian.
"Okay, I understand."
Qin Yu nodded.
Xia Lan looked at Qin Yu, who didn't seem to be alright.
"Yuanyuan, come quick!"
Tuantuan had already run to the school gate. Looking back at Yuanyuan still holding Xialan's hand and walking slowly, she immediately called out.
Goodbye, Mom and Dad.
Seeing that Tuantuan was urging her, Yuanyuan quickly went to catch up with Tuantuan.
"Is something on your mind?"
On the way to take Xia Lan away, Qin Yu looked preoccupied.
