With her eyes open, she was faced with a mud-brick house and a strong, rough man. Xia Lan was bewildered.
She discovered she had actually returned to the 1970s, becoming an orphan who had jus...
If Xia Lan knew what Zhao Li was thinking, she'd probably laugh herself to death.
A spoiled and willful person will always blame others for being wrong, and will never think that they are wrong.
After finishing her lunch break, Xia Lan happily ate the small pieces of meat that Sister Yang fed her. They were just scraps with a little bit of meat on them, but in those days, they were incredibly precious.
"As expected of a chef from a state-run restaurant, the food is delicious," Sister Yang exclaimed.
Xia Lan nodded; it was indeed quite delicious.
"It would be perfect if it were a little sweeter."
"Really? I think this is pretty good." Sister Yang licked her lips; the taste was already delicious to her.
"Hehe, I was just saying." Xia Lan chuckled, unaware that Hao Jian, who was walking over, had overheard her words.
"Is Chef Hao going back?" Upon seeing Hao Jian, Sister Yang pulled Xia Lan to her feet.
"How are sales today?" Hao Jian asked with a smile.
"Your cooking skills, Chef Hao, are absolutely top-notch around here. Look, they're all sold out," Sister Yang said with a smile.
"Thank you for your hard work." Hao Jian nodded in satisfaction when he saw that the cabinet was indeed empty.
"Take care." Sister Yang and Xia Lan waved to Hao Jian and watched him leave.
After Sister Yang sat down, she was about to take out the sweater to knit as usual, but after glancing at Xia Lan, she put it back.
Xia Lan washed the empty plates and waited until the counter was clean before sitting down next to Sister Yang.
Seeing that Xia Lan had finished tidying up quickly and efficiently, Sister Yang was even happier.
"It's lunchtime. Did you bring your own food, or are you going to the cafeteria to get food?" Sister Yang asked with a smile.
"Let's eat at the cafeteria today! I didn't bring any food," Xia Lan replied.
"Come on, let me take you to get food!" Sister Yang pulled Xia Lan toward the company cafeteria.
It was lunchtime, and many people were queuing up for food in the cafeteria. Sister Yang pulled Xia Lan to a closed window on the side.
Under Xia Lan's puzzled gaze, Sister Yang knocked on the window panel.
The person inside immediately opened the window, saw it was Sister Yang, and a smile appeared on their lips.
"You're here. Why are you here so early today?"
Xia Lan blinked as she looked at the man inside dressed in a chef's uniform.
Sister Yang chuckled, handed her lunchbox and Xia Lan's lunchbox to the man, and said, "Get us two dishes."
"This is Xia Lan, the young lady who just started working at my counter."
He then turned to Xia Lan and introduced her.
"Xia, this is my man, Zou Ming."
"Hello, Brother Zou." Xia Lan nodded obediently in greeting.
"Hello, Comrade Xia Lan."
Zou Ming glanced at his wife. It was rare to see her bring a new person to his place, and she even specifically requested two dishes.
It seems she really likes this new colleague.
Zou Ming packed two dishes into their lunchboxes. Xia Lan knew from the sight of the full load of food that Zou Ming's hands were not shaking.
He quickly took out his food coupons and money for the meal and handed them to Zou Ming, who accepted them with a smile.
Zou Ming watched Xia Lan walk away with her lunchbox, a smirk playing on his lips.
It's definitely different now. Before, my wife's colleagues would just take the food and never pay for it.
Xia Lan carried the dishes and looked for an empty seat, but Sister Yang pulled Xia Lan to a corner.
"Don't go to the middle, sit here."
Xia Lan nodded, sat down, and looked at the plate full of food. When she was looking for a seat, she saw that other people's lunch boxes only had a few bits of food. Compared to them, it really proved what Sister Yang said.
Two dishes.
"Thanks to you, elder sister!" Xia Lan said to Sister Yang with a smile.
"Eat quickly! If someone finds out, we'll be in trouble again," Sister Yang reminded her with a smile.
It's because her husband works in the kitchen, and he's the head chef. Many people have complained about why she always gets more dishes than others, but nothing ever came of it.
However, the higher-ups still advised Sister Yang to keep a low profile, enjoy her life, and avoid causing public outrage.
Xia Lan ate her lunchbox; she couldn't finish both dishes.
Since Qin Yu wasn't there, and she couldn't finish her food, she simply ate half of it, thus securing dinner for the evening.
"You only ate this little bit?" Sister Yang looked at Xia Lan and then covered the lid after she had only eaten half of it.
"I can't finish all of this, so I might as well leave half for dinner tonight," Xia Lan explained with a smile.
"That's right, she knows how to manage a household well," Sister Yang said with a smile.
After Xia Lan finished eating with Sister Yang, she was about to leave when she noticed several unfriendly glances as she passed by.
Xia Lan turned around and saw several older women rolling their eyes and muttering something under their breath.
"Ignore them, they're just a bunch of bored middle-aged women who've been drinking old vinegar."
Sister Yang spat at them, and Xia Lan saw that their faces were red with anger, but she didn't dare to come over.
"It was these women who went to the leaders to badmouth me. Bah! What trash! Heartless women who can't stand to see others do well." Sister Yang clearly had a deep contempt for them.
"What was that saying again? Oh, I remember now."
Sister Yang finally remembered.
"Two-cent vinegar—both sour and cheap."
Xia Lan couldn't help but chuckle.
Following Sister Yang back to the counter, the two sat for a while. Sister Yang glanced at Xia Lan, took out some yarn, and began knitting a sweater.
"Go ahead and do whatever you want to do! Just come back at three o'clock in the afternoon!" Sister Yang said to Xia Lan.
"I'm here, I'll cover for you, no one will come."
"I don't have anything to do either, so I'll just stay here with you!" Xia Lan shook her head; she didn't have anything particularly important to do either.
I wonder how Qin Yu's matter is going.
She didn't have any friends here, so she simply stayed to keep Sister Yang company, which was more interesting.
"I don't know who offended a customer while knitting a sweater before, but someone complained about it. Then, somehow, they got involved in theft, and as a result, they were all fired," Sister Yang said casually while knitting a sweater quickly.
Xia Lan froze, then coughed awkwardly.
It is I.
“Knitting sweaters wouldn’t normally be a big deal; if the boss saw it, he’d just say a few words and that would be it. But these three idiots actually stole things, and even after they were fired, they still couldn’t stop causing trouble. They even tried to go to the factory to make a scene,” Sister Yang said quietly.
"Uh...it's my fault they got expelled," Xia Lan said, touching her nose sheepishly.
Sister Yang glanced at Xia Lan.
"My husband and I had just gotten our marriage certificate. He wanted to buy me a dress, but she looked down on me. I got angry and said a few words to her. Minister Yang came over, intending to calm things down..."
Xia Lan said slowly.
"I know, Minister Yang would have just given you a warning and that would have been it. This isn't your fault; they couldn't keep it to themselves and blurted out the stupid things they did." Sister Yang patted Xia Lan, though she had brought it up on purpose.
Because she was there at the time, she recognized Xia Lan the moment she saw her.
