The Scum Aunt Was Divorced, Then Led the Whole Village to Show Off Their Meat

When Ye Caiping opened her eyes, she was a divorced woman cast out of her husband's home, with her sister-in-law sharpening her knife at her. It's not that the sister-in-law wouldn't to...

Chapter 19 The Ye Family's Dilemma

The next day, the entire Ye family got up full of energy.

Last night they were terrified that the poison would take effect in the middle of the night, but now they are awake and relieved.

Thinking of the cassava growing all over the mountains and fields, I couldn't help but feel anxious and excited.

After a quick wash, everyone except for Madam Wei and Ye Yinhua who stayed home to cook went out in a hurry, carrying baskets and large crates on their backs.

We encountered many villagers along the way.

I was somewhat surprised to see such a large gathering at the Ye family's home.

"Daquan, where are you all going? Carrying so much stuff, did your wheat ripen early? Hahaha!" Villager Ye Xiniu joked, carrying a hoe.

Such a grand spectacle only takes place during harvest season.

Ye Daquan kept walking: "Let's go up the mountain and see if we can dig up some food."

Ye Xiniu chuckled: "The edible grass on the mountain has been almost completely stripped bare. With so many baskets, the only thing you have left to hold is the poisonous roots from the mountain."

"Haha, yes, yes, it's for faking poison roots."

Ye Daquan agreed and quickly left with his family.

Ye Xiniu was confused and wanted to continue, but the man had already walked away, so he assumed Ye Daquan was joking.

Along the way, there were many villagers like Ye Xiniu.

Old Man Ye and the others just gave perfunctory replies.

Soon, the family arrived at the cassava forest, panting.

The Ye family members' eyes lit up – it was all grain!

Ye Caiping said, "Be careful when digging. Untreated cassava plants are poisonous in their entirety, so don't get it in your mouth."

"After cutting it down, don't peel it; let's take it home first."

"Hehehe, don't worry." Ye Daquan put down the carrying pole and picked up the hoe.

With a whoosh, they started digging.

Old Man Ye and Ye Erquan were not to be outdone, and began wielding their hoes.

Under the old man's instructions, the three Ye brothers dragged and pulled, and soon a whole cassava was pulled out.

Looking at the large, fruitful cassava plants, each weighing twenty or thirty pounds, the Ye family members stopped what they were doing, their faces beaming with joy.

"Continue!" Old Man Ye said excitedly.

Ye Daquan noticed the fine sweat on Ye Caiping's forehead and felt extremely sorry for her: "Little sister, are you tired? Why don't you sit down and rest for a while?"

Ye Caiping was speechless: "I'm not made of paper, how could I be so weak?"

Seeing that she was in good spirits, Ye Daquan gave up.

The men of the Ye family were responsible for digging and pulling, while the women cut down the cassava and put it into baskets and hampers.

They were working up a great deal of energy, sweating profusely, as if they had inexhaustible strength.

Time flies when you're focused on your work.

In the blink of an eye, it was noon.

When Wei and Ye Yinhua carried food boxes up the mountain, they saw Ye Caiping and others cutting cassava and packing it into baskets. Their eyes lit up when they saw the baskets full of cassava.

"They dug up this much in just one morning," said Mrs. Wei. "It must weigh six or seven hundred jin!"

Mrs. Du tossed a large cassava into the basket, wiped her sweat, and said, "You bet, this is exhausting."

But there was no complaint in her tone, only happiness.

"Grandpa and Daddy, time to eat!" Ye Yinhua shouted towards the cassava forest, making a megaphone shape with her little hands.

Old Man Ye and the others reluctantly put down their hoes.

Ye Daquan walked over, wiping the sweat from his brow with a towel draped around his neck.

After washing their hands in the mountain stream, everyone sat down on the ground and started eating from their rough porcelain bowls.

Today's lunch was quite substantial; it was a bowl of dry rice, not porridge.

Brown rice mixed with a little radish, topped with slices of cassava. There were also pickled vegetables and Chinese cabbage.

This was cooked at Grandma Ye's request.

With so many cassava roots, there was no worry about going hungry, so they asked Mrs. Wei to cook a dry meal to reward the family.

Although there was no meat, the family hadn't had such a hearty meal in a long time, so they ate with great relish.

"It's been a long time since I've had any rice." Ye Erquan licked his lips, still wanting more.

Ye Caiping said, "Let's not dig any new ones this afternoon. There are still many broken ones underground. Let's dig out these broken ones."

Everyone agreed, put down their bowls, and continued working.

Wei and Ye Yinhua didn't go back either; they helped out.

An hour later, the cassava that had broken off in the ground was also dug out.

The group cleaned up the cassava, some putting it into baskets and others into backpacks, totaling over 800 jin (approximately 400 kg).

With a heave-ho, Ye Daquan and Ye Erquan each picked up two large baskets. Both were strong laborers, and each carried a full 200 jin (100 catties).

Ye Caiping said, "Big brother, second brother, don't pick so many, share some with us."

Ye Daquan laughed and said, "This is nothing, just 200 jin. When we go outside to carry heavy loads, we can carry more than 300 jin at a time."

Old Man Ye was very pleased to see that Ye Caiping knew how to care for them: "They're used to it."

The remaining four hundred or so pounds were divided into baskets by the group, with each person carrying about thirty pounds, which was an extremely easy task for the farmers.

When they reached the foot of the mountain, Old Ye's family sat down to rest.

"Heave-ho." The Ye brothers put several hundred kilograms of cassava on the ground.

Du and the others remained expressionless, even Ye Jin'er and Huan'er looked relaxed, only Ye Caiping was panting heavily.

Damn it, this lousy body!

Ye Caiping cursed inwardly, thinking that the original owner of this body had been pampered since childhood and never did any heavy work.

After getting married, she only did housework. When her two daughters grew up, almost all the housework fell on their shoulders. That's why she's so weak.

"Mother, put some here with me." Knowing that Ye Caiping couldn't do heavy work, Ye Jin'er went over and put two cassava roots from Ye Caiping's basket into her own basket.
