Chapter 46 Ethan, who doesn't want to go to school; and the dutiful Turner, who is uncertain...
The responsible Turner would visit him at irregular intervals, so Ethan had to prepare ingredients every day. If Turner came at mealtimes, Ethan would also cook his portion. However, Turner was probably affected by the fact that there was only one portion of food for one person last time, so he almost never came to visit him at mealtimes.
As the days went by, the day Ethan would be forced to go to school drew ever closer.
School is currently on holiday, so Turner suggested that Ethan report back after the holiday, and it seems he's somewhat willing to take him with him.
Although Ethan didn't want to accept it, tomorrow was the day he was to report for duty.
Ethan prepared a backpack containing several notebooks and some stationery, as well as the file folder that Turner had given him, apparently to be handed to the teacher upon registration.
However, his aversion to school could not be alleviated, so he opened a portal again and teleported to a different dimension where he lay down next to a falling star.
Starfall: "...?"
"What are you doing?" Xingyun lifted his head, a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
"I'm going to be sent to school by Turners." Ethan closed his eyes in anguish, half-dead: "First year of high school!"
Xingyun seemed stunned for a moment, then carefully chose her words to be more tactful: "Are you crazy, or is he crazy?"
Why? He could have gone straight to the Master's program, why was he sent to high school to be with people his own age who probably didn't have much in common?
Sending Ethan in is a complete waste of time. During the days Ethan has been staying at the Turner apartment, he can't even handle the paperwork openly anymore, because Turner comes randomly and without any pattern.
Starfall also saw Ethan sighing over his mountain of documents. Ethan was always stuffing food into his hands after he finished cooking, which was a bit too frequent.
Ethan howled, all thunder and no rain, and crawled on the ground like a caterpillar.
This terrible habit started one day when Ethan was under too much pressure taking over his responsibilities. At its worst, he would crawl in the shadows, laughing and crying, and even feel like a caterpillar, mopping the floor with his body.
Starfall tried to correct it, but failed every time. However, since this was Ethan's way of venting stress, Starfall, though somewhat helpless, stopped interfering.
“Going to school…haha, going to school…” Ethan suddenly laughed again, looking at Starfall with a bit of sadness.
"How about..." Xingyun paused, then deftly changed the more aggressive "I'll help you kill him so that Yangyan, that idiot, can find someone else" to a more polite "I'll help you cast a spell to make him forget you?"
Ethan stopped moving, turned to look at him, and looked somewhat bewildered.
"You're troubled by this, aren't you?" Starfall's voice became somewhat nonchalant: "It's very simple. As long as I cast an amnesia spell on him, he won't remember anything unless I personally undo it."
“Starfall…” Ethan hesitated, “…Sir?”
"Don't let this bother you. If you don't want to go to school, then don't. Your knowledge base is already enough to surpass your peers in every way." Xingyun rarely showed a smile, the corners of his mouth slightly upturned. He looked down at Ethan on the ground. Because his hair was hanging down, it blocked part of the light on his face, and most of his face was hidden in darkness. Ethan could only see the smile on his lips, which was cold and casual: "Just once, he will forget everything that happened during this time. Are you worried about the money? You can legally transfer it into his account. You can do it yourself."
The subtle herbal scent unique to Starfall wafted over, making Ethan feel a little disoriented.
“Of course, I won’t act on my own. I respect your decision.” Starfall lowered his voice, making it more alluring: “What do you want to do, Ethan?”
"I..." Ethan swallowed hard, stammering, his head lowered and his voice softer than when he was with Starfall.
Starfall looked at him encouragingly, awaiting his decision.
“I…” Ethan suddenly raised his head and shouted loudly, “Come on, Lord Starfall. I think I can try to go back to school. Also, what you just said gave me the feeling that you would kill someone so casually.”
It's truly terrifying. Killing Tenas was as easy as asking him what he wanted to eat tonight. Although Lord Starfall's abilities are indeed so powerful that he can easily kill many people in an instant, and he has indeed been eating recently, that's not the point. It's as if Lord Starfall really wants him to agree.
It feels like agreeing to a murder proposal, which is driving him crazy.
Starfall was taken aback. Ethan chose to refuse him, but he wasn't angry. He just thought about what he had just done.
Well, it seems he really did unconsciously use his old manipulative tactics. Sometimes when he wanted them to climb higher, not all of them were willing. A very small number of them still maintained a conscience from who-knows-where, and he had to say a few more words to make them obediently become his puppets.
If Ethan doesn't like it, then he won't use it anymore. He didn't intend to use this overly persuasive tactic on Ethan anyway; he just used it unconsciously. Although he was indeed considering whether to secretly use some tricks, Turner was getting annoyed. Which eye of his could make him imagine Ethan as a weak and helpless fallen girl? It was a bit too much of a concern, always coming to care for her.
Starfall hates Yangyan, and everything about Yangyan, including his guardian. However, he did not stop Ethan's behavior. Selene said that children should not be restricted too much, otherwise they will develop a rebellious mentality. As long as Ethan is not the best friend of that guy's guardian in the future, it will be fine.
That would disgust him. Although the guardian is not wrong, you are the guardian of Yangyan, and you are born with his aversion to you.
Starfall's equal aversion to everything related to Yangyan.
If Ethan likes it, fine, just avoid contact with that despicable blond bastard. Being with his guardian is barely acceptable.
Ethan completely relaxed once Xingyun returned to her previous state, and she no longer resisted going to school with the tears and tantrums she had shown at the beginning.
If all else fails, he can use magic to blur his classmates' perceptions, making them think that he goes to school every day, and then go off to handle his work. If his classmates and teachers don't suspect anything, then Turnas probably won't go to school to see him for no reason.
I guess so...
Ethan was still a bit uncertain, so he decided to just take it one step at a time.
Ethan thought to himself as he returned to his apartment and dealt with the dreaded amount of work that had piled up all night. Before it was time for him to make breakfast, he stuffed all the documents back in, erased all traces of the work, and then began making breakfast. He also put a few bottles of emetic potions in his personal storage space just in case.
When breakfast was halfway through being prepared, Ternas arrived.
Ethan was frying bacon when he asked if he wanted some too.
The response I got was that I had already eaten it. Ethan almost blurted out that he thought he had eaten it too. The feeling of vomiting wasn't very pleasant, but the taste of the bacon made up for it.
It smelled amazing! With Ethan's years of cooking experience and dozens of bottles and jars of seasonings, the bacon was absolutely delicious, with perfect color, aroma, and taste. It was still sizzling and steaming on the plate, and the aroma emanating from his hands was incredibly tempting to Ethan.
Ethan noticed that Turner seemed to swallow hard as well, and considerately set aside some bacon. He had fried a lot of it, just in case Turner hadn't eaten breakfast.
Turner quickly waved his hand, saying he could eat it himself. Ethan then told Turner that he had actually prepared breakfast for him but hadn't expected him to eat it, and that he had a small appetite and that eating too much would upset his stomach.
Of course, Turner said that he didn't need to prepare his portion next time, but he still ate without looking up, praising his cooking skills repeatedly, saying that it was really delicious. Ethan subtly suggested that it might be because there were too many seasonings, and thought that he was just being modest.
Ethan: You, go to the kitchen and show me those dozens of bottles and jars! I'm not being modest.
They finally arrived at the school twenty minutes later.
Although it wasn't far, it still took some time to throw the plates and dishes back into the sink, get some things, and travel the distance.
Tenas drove slowly until he was almost at the school, at which point he suddenly put on sunglasses. Instead of driving directly to the school gate, he drove a distance further and entered a deserted area. Once inside, a barrier slowly appeared at the entrance, indicating that passage was not permitted.
“This is my alma mater.” After parking the car, Turner tied his long hair into a small bun behind his neck, biting the hair tie and speaking somewhat indistinctly: “I need to change my image, otherwise it will take a bit of time. I’m walking this way because I’ve already contacted the school. There are fewer people here, so it’s not as troublesome.”
Ethan understood the trouble and time-consuming nature that Turner mentioned. As a fellow Guardian, Turner was in a situation where countless fans would rush up to him for autographs, interactions, and gifts as soon as he appeared.
This would disrupt their schedule today, which is indeed time-consuming and troublesome. They can't just tell their fans that they have something to do today and will sign autographs for them next time, can they?
Ethan also has this problem, but unlike Turner's positive fan feedback, it's negative.
Every time he showed up in Starfall City, those crazed people were like jackals who had been starving for days and smelled their prey, wishing they could devour him in one bite, bite his head, and suck his blood.
Ethan could confidently guarantee that his 'fans' were even more fanatical than those of other Guardians, confessing their love, giving gifts, and even offering themselves as lovers while other Guardians' fans did not.
Ethan's 'fans' would give him a hug the moment they met him, preferably one that could crush his bones, or kiss him with their fists. Of course, they would also give him small gifts, such as a small firework that could blow up everyone within ten meters, or food with poison, needles, or razor blades, as well as all sorts of fabricated rumors that would make him lose face.
Of course, his fans will also express their gratitude for protecting Starfall City.
Comments included: "You look like a clown jumping around when you're fighting monsters," "How many more people are you going to kill? Can you please stop with these bullshit laws?" and "Since you've already implemented laws for minors, can you at least give all minors immunity?"
I pay attention to his mental health every day, and of course his physical health as well, hoping that my words can stir some emotions in him, and that he will live younger and younger—meaning to die young and be reborn sooner.
This is a sweet trouble, Ethan couldn't help but sigh to himself.
Every time he appears, everyone is too enthusiastic, which forces him to fight back and causes everyone to bleed. Some people are so clueless about this that Ethan had to give the cleaners a 20% raise on their wages.

Author's Note: Is it just my imagination? I feel like Ethan is getting a bit darker the longer he's been a Guardian.
Starfall: Still too kind. [Shakes head]
So many cases lately, it's really unsettling. Everyone please be careful when you go out [chin resting on hand]. These things are terrifying. I was video chatting with my mom on my way home from get off work, and there were even cases of people being stabbed in front of their own homes. It makes me wonder if the world is going to end. People aren't suppressing their impulses anymore, and I'm even a little afraid to go out myself.
My friend drew me a picture, and I'm going to put it on my character design page soon. He drew Ethan with a rosy complexion, making him look like a real person, even more rosy-cheeked than me.
