Chen Shuning wasn't sure whether to call herself lucky or unlucky.
Her misfortune was that, having had a stable job and a prosperous life, she lost her life in a fire at a newly opened la...
When Chen Shuning woke up the next morning, he had no recollection of how the two of them left the space the night before, or how they took off their clothes and went to bed.
Sitting on the kang (a heated brick bed), staring blankly at the curtains, I wondered how I could have blacked out when I hadn't been drinking.
He Chaoyang, who had just finished cooking the porridge and warming up the steamed buns, saw his wife sitting on the kang (a heated brick bed) in a daze as soon as he entered the room. He quickly said, "Are you still sleeping? If you are, hurry up and get into bed. If you're not, get dressed. It's snowing outside, and the temperature has dropped sharply. Don't be so careless as to catch a cold."
Upon hearing that it was snowing outside, Chen Shuning perked up and stopped worrying about how she had fallen asleep the night before. As long as she knew that He Chaoyang was there, she would be safe from harm.
So he hurriedly climbed to the bedside and lifted a corner of the curtain to look outside.
The windowpanes were completely covered with a thick layer of frosted glass, making it impossible to see anything through.
Chen Shuning then breathed on the window to melt a small piece of the paper-cut window decoration before she could see the view outside.
The first snowfall of the year was quite heavy, with about five or six centimeters of snow already covering the ground, which is easily judged by the footprints left on the ground. Large snowflakes are still falling to the ground.
With such heavy snow, it was definitely impossible to go up the mountain today, so Chen Shuning wasn't in a hurry to get up.
If she can keep the fire in the stove burning all day, then she won't be afraid even if the outside temperature drops to minus forty or fifty degrees Celsius, because as long as there is a fire, her little house can maintain a temperature of twenty-seven or twenty-eight degrees Celsius, which is still very warm.
So Chen Shuning simply sat in bed and started thinking about what to do today.
It's not good to lock the door and enter the space during the day, but at least I can eat some good food.
We can find the charcoal stove later and brew tea around it. It would be even better if we could grill some meat skewers.
Thinking of this, Chen Shuning couldn't sit still any longer and hurriedly got up to get dressed.
As soon as He Chaoyang entered the room carrying the food, he saw Chen Shuning hurriedly getting dressed. He asked with some confusion, "Take your time getting dressed. I've prepared the food. You can eat as soon as you get up and wash your face."
The room was 20 degrees Celsius. If Chen Shuning didn't leave the room, she would only wear a quilted pajamas at home, so she got dressed very quickly.
Hearing He Chaoyang's words, Chen Shuning wanted to say that she wasn't in a hurry to get up and cook. She had smelled the aroma of the corn porridge as soon as she opened her eyes, so how could she not know that he had already prepared breakfast?
She was in a hurry to find a charcoal stove in the woodshed to start a fire; she was really craving the sweet smell of roasted persimmons.
After getting dressed, Chen Shuning habitually folded the quilt neatly and placed it on the kang cabinet first, before saying to He Chaoyang, who was busy bringing breakfast, "Brother He, you eat first. I'll go to the woodshed to find something and then come back to eat."
As Chen Shuning got out of bed, put on her shoes, and was about to leave, He Chaoyang grabbed her arm, put the basket of steamed buns on the table, and said with a disapproving look, "Why are you going to the woodshed in just a few clothes? Go wash your face first, and tell me what you're looking for, and I'll find it for you."
Looking at He Chaoyang, who was only wearing a thermal undershirt, Chen Shuning really wanted to say that what he was wearing didn't seem as thick as what he was wearing.
However, considering that her physique was indeed inferior to others, Chen Shuning wisely swallowed her rebuttal and instead smiled very obediently, saying, "It's that small charcoal stove that can be placed on the kang (heated brick bed)."
It's snowing so heavily outside, we can't go out. How about we stay home and brew some tea around the stove today?
As long as he was with his wife, He Chaoyang didn't care what he did, so he readily agreed, "I know, you go wash up, I'll get it for you."
"Great! Brother He, remember to bring me back a piece of pork belly and a pheasant, okay? Oh, and pick some pickled cabbage too, we'll have barbecue for lunch," Chen Shuning said happily.
"Okay, do you want some sweet potatoes? If you do, I'll bring a few back with me." He Chaoyang replied with a smile. He remembered that Chen Shuning especially loved roasted sweet potatoes, so he asked.
However, Chen Shuning still felt that the crops grown in the fields were far inferior to those produced in her space.
Therefore, she planned to take the rest of the items directly from her spatial storage.
However, since it wouldn't be good to smell the aroma of meat without taking anything, she chose to take the pork belly.
Even if He Chaoyang brings the meat back, she might not eat it; instead, she'll find an opportunity to replace it with meat from her spatial storage.
So when He Chaoyang asked her if she wanted sweet potatoes, Chen Shuning answered without hesitation, "No, I have everything else here."
"Brother He, hurry back! The meat needs to be marinated to fully infuse it with flavor; it will taste even better when grilled." Her eyes were full of anticipation.
He Chaoyang immediately understood Chen Shuning's meaning, and readily agreed, "Okay, I'll go right away. You go wash up and eat first."
As Chen Shuning watched his retreating figure, a warm feeling welled up in her heart. It felt so good to have someone caring for and looking after you all the time.
She happily went to the outer room to wash her face and brush her teeth, and then sat at the dining table like a good child, waiting for He Chaoyang to come back so they could have breakfast together.
He Chaoyang had just left when Chen Shuning heard a knock on the door. He went out and saw Gu Xinyi. He quickly waved her in.
Gu Xinyi first stood at the door and brushed the snowflakes off her body before opening the door and entering the house.
As soon as Gu Xinyi entered the door, she couldn't help but mutter, "It's probably going to be even colder this year than last year. The first snowfall is so heavy. I'm afraid we can't go anywhere today."
