In her previous life, Ling Huanwu took a multi-fetus pill. Even though she was designed by her adopted sister to marry a childless vagrant from the village, she still became the wealthiest wife and...
Criminal Investigation Division.
Ling Huanwu told Qin Jinshen about some of his criminal businesses and hideouts that she knew from her previous life.
Based on his memories from his previous life, he provided the name of a key lawyer under his command.
In his previous life, this lawyer died quietly, and it's likely he had evidence of Qin Jinshen's crimes on his hands.
The lawyer's wife and three children later committed suicide by jumping off a building.
She was certain that Qin Jinshen was involved in all of this.
In this life, she is determined to prevent these tragedies from being discovered.
Even though Qin Jinshen turned over a new leaf in his previous life, it was several years later.
If we can wipe them all out now, we can avoid the chaos and bloodshed of the following years.
This is also why her application to leave the country through Hong Kong was approved quickly.
After listening to Ling Huanwu's list of Qin Jinshen's crimes, the investigators were skeptical: "How do you know so much? Could it be that you're his lover?"
Ling Huanwu glanced at the one-way mirror on the wall, knowing that Zhou Jiuzhen was definitely listening in the background.
She closed her eyes, refusing to answer.
As she stepped out of the room, she looked up and met Zhou Jiuzhen's forlorn eyes.
On the way back to the hotel, Zhou Jiuzhen remained silent.
Ling Huanwu was somewhat annoyed that she hadn't denied being Qin Jin's lover, but she couldn't find an excuse to explain why.
She couldn't very well tell them that she was a reincarnation from her previous life.
We returned to the hotel in the evening.
The late winter wind whipped up withered leaves from the streets of the port city and slapped against the hotel window, like someone outside clenching their fist.
As Zhou Jiuzhen's breath, tinged with sourness, pressed down, Ling Huanwu was curled up on the edge of the bed folding his discarded military uniform. Her fingertips had just touched the polished collar insignia when her wrist was suddenly gripped.
"Let go..." Her voice trembled as it struck his stubble-covered jaw.
The man didn't speak, but his eyes were as dark as a frozen black river.
He casually tossed his military uniform onto the carpet, the brass buttons digging painfully into her back.
Ling Huanwu struggled to explain, but the words were blocked by his biting lip, a gesture that was both fierce and concealed an inexplicable panic.
“Jiuzhen, I didn’t, I’m not…” Her fingernails dug into his epaulettes, the star emblems on them making her palms burn.
He acted as if he didn't hear her, but simply pulled her closer to him, his military boots scraping against the floor with a dull thud.
The desk lamp swayed back and forth.
In the warm yellow light, she saw the bulging veins on the side of his neck and the redness surging in his eyes.
That wasn't emotion, it was anger, it was fear, it was a panic he himself wasn't even aware of.
In the latter half of the night, Ling Huanwu could no longer hold on and lay on his chest, panting. Her tears soaked his shirt, leaving a small wet patch.
The man's rough hand stroked her sweaty forehead, the movement heavy as if he were atoning for something.
"Does it hurt?" The voice was hoarse, as if it had been sanded.
Ling Huanwu didn't have the strength to nod, she just snuggled closer to him, her fingertips touching the old gunshot wound on his back.
“Jiuzhen,” she said in a hoarse voice, “I’m not his lover, believe me, there’s nothing between us!”
The person in his arms suddenly stiffened.
Ling Huanwu felt his heart skip a beat, followed by an even tighter embrace, as if he wanted to meld her into his very bones.
His chin rested on the top of her head, and a suppressed, animalistic whimper came from him.
“I believe you…” he repeated, his hand stroking the red marks on her wrist where he had gripped her hand, his fingertips trembling violently. “Huanwu, I’m sorry.”
The wind was still blowing outside the window, and moonlight peeked through the gaps in the curtains, illuminating the kiss he had left on the corner of her eye, tinged with lingering fear.
Ling Huanwu closed her eyes, listening to the pounding of his heart in his chest, and suddenly she no longer resented him.
This man, who never showed fear on the battlefield, could panic like a lost child over something like this.
But the soreness and fatigue in her body still lingered, as if reminding her of what that beast had just done.
She leaned closer to him and said sullenly, "Tomorrow... you have to buy me two catties of pork lard from Hong Kong as an apology."
He pulled her closer, rubbing his chin against the top of her head, his voice low and tender, "Buy them all. I'll get you a piece of floral fabric when we get back, to make you a new cotton-padded jacket."
"I'm not wearing a floral cotton-padded jacket, it's so tacky..."
The moonlight flowed quietly, casting their embracing shadows on the wall, filling the room with a tender, romantic atmosphere...

The next day.
Qin Jinshen held a meeting at the Qin family headquarters and decided to buy a piece of land in the eastern suburbs of the port city to develop real estate.
He designated a small section of hot spring, intending to build a villa there as a gift for Ling Huanwu.
He recalled how he had secretly observed her in his previous life and discovered that she was very afraid of the cold. In winter, she would wrap herself up like a ball of fur, looking as cute and innocent as a child.
Thinking of this, he couldn't help but smile, his eyes filled with heartache.
He was discussing the design of the hot spring resort with a well-known architect in the port city when Ma, the bodyguard, burst through the door in a great hurry, as if he had rushed up without taking the elevator.
"It's bad, sir! I just received news that the police went to Attorney Qiao's house with more than a dozen police cars. I guess he's already been arrested!"
Qin Jin gasped, and the blueprints for the hot spring resort slipped from his hand.
The cases that Attorney Qiao has helped him settle over the years, each one of which could be enough to put him in jail for a lifetime.
In that instant, Qin Jinshen felt as if a sharp blade had pierced through his heart, causing excruciating pain.
Without even guessing, he realized that Ling Huanwu must have done all of this.
He tried everything to get her to come to Hong Kong, but he never expected that he would hand her the knife that was meant to stab him.
Ignoring the still bewildered architect, Qin Jinshen hurriedly left the conference room, instructing Ma, the bodyguard, "Go back and take Miss Ma with you. I'll go back to the villa to get my things and then come to meet you!"
The guard immediately understood and ran downstairs.
Qin Jinshen went up to the company rooftop, boarded the helicopter that had been waiting there, and flew home.
Qin Jinshen opened the villa's safe, threw several documents into the fire pit to burn, and took all the gold bars and foreign bankbooks. Then he restarted the helicopter on the rooftop and flew towards Ma's rooftop house.
The villa's large iron gate had just been smashed open when the helicopter upstairs took off.
The police officers who had just gone upstairs turned back, got into their police cars, and called headquarters for backup to make the arrest.
Rooftop.
Qin Zhizhi was sleeping in late and eating breakfast, including an egg and ten dishes, which Ma Huwei had made for her.
She had just finished eating a bowl of oil tea noodles when Guard Ma suddenly appeared out of nowhere and pulled her outside.
"Young Miss, something terrible has happened! Your brother is doomed! We have to run away right now..."
At this moment, the guard was carrying an old woman on his back, her face contorted with grief, her expression a mixture of tears and sweat.
"My tea egg!"
Qin Zhizhi exclaimed in surprise, not even having time to grab her coat, and ran outside with just a tea egg in hand.
The helicopter arrived just as the two men stepped out of the shed.
Qin Zhizhi boarded the helicopter and looked at the buildings below her getting smaller and smaller before accepting reality.
She's really going to become penniless!
