Chapter 125 Rescue (Part 4)
"puff."
Bright blue mental power shot out quickly, piercing into the moth's wings, and a ball of flame suddenly lit up, burning the moth to ashes.
Mingyu's expression tense as he quickly scanned the space within the Starport. His mental thread followed the crack where the moth had entered, climbing upwards to the space above.
Above the airport is a small laboratory.
Inside the one-way metallic glass, the low-level black tide creatures artificially cultivated in the laboratory built nests, just like the scene in the laboratory that Mingyu and Mu Baixing saw when they just walked out of the space crack, covering the entire space.
Outside the metallic glass, the array of experimental instruments continued to operate. However, a tiny crack had appeared in the room's ceiling, where it was welded to the laboratory's metallic glass. Dozens of moths, wings folded, formed a single file and emerged from the crack, sliding down the metallic glass like a black streak of water, gliding to the floor, seeking space to descend further.
“Puff, puff, puff.”
Mingyu set all the moths in the house on fire and continued to fly upwards.
"There's a problem with the temporary protective layer." Ah Fei had already put down the energy recharge gun. "After the last Kuroshio creatures invaded the base, we abandoned three more layers of space and added a protective layer on the fourth layer. We expect it to withstand at least fifteen days of Kuroshio energy and biological invasion... but it's only the tenth day now."
"Probably because of the increased activity of the Kuroshio energy," Mingyu said. "There are a lot of moths on the upper levels. They're already crawling all over them. This is not the only invasion point in the base."
He felt the ground beneath his feet vibrate slightly. The black energy outside the base was pouring down through the cracks, causing the entire base's metal structure to tremble slightly.
The black tide energy outside is coming with great force, which is not a good sign.
"Everyone, assemble at the starport immediately," Vita's voice came over the radio. "Please stop organizing your research data and bring your recorded chips to the starport immediately. In five minutes, all security gates will be locked."
Voices were heard from the passage outside the starport, and the survivors in the base followed the broadcast and came to the floor where the starport was located.
A few minutes later, Vita hurried through the crowd and entered the starport, asking, "How long will it take to be ready?"
"Three hours." Mu Baixing said.
He didn't look up, completing the engine modification as quickly as possible. A light screen hung in front of Vita, showing the invasion point of the black tide energy.
"The security robots are guarding the rift," he said in a deep voice. "Three hours is a bit dangerous. I've ordered everyone to the preparation room outside the starport. Since we're setting sail from here, we can't move down this time. We might as well just hold the starport. Is the rift at the invasion point here large?"
"It's still small now. But if moths continue to invade, the cracks here will expand." Ah Fei said, "I'll go up and take a look."
He looked at Mingyu as he spoke, "Put your mental power back and just guard the crack. Use it sparingly."
The border soldier patted Mingyu on the shoulder and said, "We still have a few days of sailing ahead. You are his observer and our navigation support. There is still a tough battle ahead."
Rose was spraying a protective coating on the starship's tail. She paused for a moment and turned to look at Alfie.
"According to the base regulations," she said calmly, "after going up and coming back, you must wait in the isolation room and undergo a physical examination after the battle."
This is the isolation rule that must be implemented to deal with the parasitic black tide organisms.
But the battle will not end before setting sail, and the starship will set sail in a hurry, leaving no time for Afei to undergo physical examination and testing.
"Of course." Ah Fei glanced at Rose and said naturally, "After you go out, help me find out about my wife and children. Their information has already been passed to you."
Rose responded, returning her attention to the starship. "Don't worry. The chip might be damaged, but I've memorized your last words and the relevant family information. I review them every day."
As the Black Tide creatures invaded the base several times, more and more border soldiers died, and the number of wills that Rose needed to review every day became longer and longer. Today, she added another one.
The tone and emotions of the two people when they spoke were as normal and casual as roommates going out to buy groceries on an ordinary day, so much so that Mingyu didn't even realize the meaning behind this conversation until he heard the word "last words".
The young man looked stunned. A Fei patted his shoulder again, then quickly walked out of the airport and went to the equipment display room to put on his powered exoskeleton.
Vita didn't say anything else. He picked up the energy capsule filling gun that Afei had placed aside and continued his previous work.
The designer's gaze followed A Fei's back. As he opened the door and walked out of the passage, he saw the survivors gathering outside, making way for a path on both sides. The crowd's whispers died down as they saw him walk toward the escalator outside the passage.
Then, someone realized something and said, "Brother Fei? Do we have to go up, Brother Fei?"
The passage door leading outward from the starport closed, blocking out the voices from outside.
Everyone was working step by step. Mingyu stared at the tiny crack and lit a moth again. There seemed to be something stuck in his throat, but he didn't speak.
Sometimes sacrifice happens silently and effortlessly, as if it were a cycle of day and night, without surprise and without choice.
The ground in the base star navigation was shaking more and more violently, like a death warrant that kept showing its existence, or like the drumbeat of a challenge.
But nothing worse happened. Amidst the continued sirens at the base, Mu Boxing finished welding the last line.
The modified engine was reassembled into the starship. The starport gate opened, and the survivors boarded the starship quickly and orderly.
Mu Baixing and Mingyu had already entered the cab. The firebird chick was in Mingyu's pocket. It had just been fed some energy crystals of moderate quality found at Rose's base, and was now very quiet.
This starship had two pilot seats and two observer seats. However, except for the seats occupied by Mu Baixing and Mingyu, the other mental power lines had been reconfigured by Mingyu. Instead of being connected to any helmets, they merged with the helmet lines of Mingyu and Mu Baixing and connected to the gun barrel.
Mingyu was the first to put on the helmet. Mu Baixing was a step behind him. Seeing that the helmet blocked the designer's vision, he poured another pill, tilted his head back and swallowed it, then said calmly, "Mingyu."
"There's something I haven't found the right time to confess to you."
Rose stood in the rear cabin, operating the equipment and issuing the order to depart from the starport.
Mu Baixing pulled down the engine to start the starship, quickly completed the performance check before departure, and the suspension track in the airport was raised.
"What?" Mingyu tightened the seat fastener and channeled his mental energy into the pipe, merging with Mu Baixing's. The familiar fusion of mental energy brought a throbbing sensation of comfort and longing, but Mingyu had a bad feeling in his heart.
Mu Baixing is definitely not the kind of person who would talk about irrelevant topics before the starship sets sail.
The young man didn’t know what Mu Baixing was going to talk about, but he had a hunch that it was definitely not a good thing!
"My spiritual realm was unstable around the Black Tide Day." As expected, the man spoke in a very calm tone amid the roar of the increasing engine speed.
"The necrotic area will feel unusually painful, which may be related to previous injuries."
"I took the medicine. But after the effect wears off, things won't be pretty."
"Don't be distracted by this during the voyage, and don't be afraid."
"No one will die."
Mingyu: “…”
Mingyu was speechless for a moment. His heart tightened, and his fingers on the fixator trembled slightly, his attention focused on the words that the situation was not looking good.
What kind of situation would make Mu Boxing say this to himself specifically? How painful must that be?
Mu Baixing tilted his head and said in a deep voice, "Confess and you will be rewarded with leniency."
Mingyu: “…”
The sealed door above the starport has opened. The starship has left its suspended orbit and is accelerating upwards.
As the starship rises, black tide energy enters along the outer wall of the lifting track.
The main and secondary gun muzzles lit up in a semi-charged state, emitting shields surrounded by gold and blue.
They didn't know the exact duration of the voyage, so they tried their best to protect the outer layer of the starship while they still had energy. The protective film on the outer shell would be their last guarantee.
The isolation door at the top of the elevator track also opened. Like a dam bursting, the black tide energy rushed in and smashed into the starship.
The golden-blue shield lit up brightly, Mu Boxing increased the power of the lifting engine, and the modified old starship accelerated upward.
It rushed through the isolation gate and plunged into the black tide, like a fearless warrior, or an ark drifting in the apocalyptic waters.
Amid the roar of the engine and the noise of energy flowing in the barrel, Mingyu's voice still reached Mu Boxing's ears clearly through the communication channel.
"...You wait." The young man took a deep breath and replied.
He knew he couldn't be distracted now, so he suppressed all his wild thoughts and only found a chance to say something harsh.
Lack of momentum, deep heartache.
Mu Baixing: "Okay."
Mingyu: “…”
He pursed his lips, focused his attention on his mental vision, and changed the subject.
As the starship sank into the black tide energy flow, the chat ended here.
"I can feel the direction of the black tide's energy." Bright blue spiritual power drifted across the black sea. Ming Yu said in a deep voice, "Turn around, Brother Mu."
"Six o'clock direction, this should be the outward flow of the Kuroshio."
The tide is beginning to rise.
The sticky black stained the golden-blue shield, engulfing it and burning it completely. More black tide creatures mixed in with the energy flow, surrounding the starship as it moved forward.
Different shades of black formed ripples outside the starship, and the bright golden and blue mental power was incompatible with the surrounding black, illuminating the moths flying in from all directions.
The starship's main gun barrel remained unfired. As the black tide's energy surged, the starship's speed gradually increased.
The speed of this transport starship gradually caught up with the speed of the most advanced warships and continued to climb.
Ming Yu narrowed his eyes slightly, and in his mental vision that was almost filled with black tide energy, he paid attention to the changing energy gravity lines in the starry sea, to prevent the starship from entering a dangerous area at high speed, crashing, or being forced to dive.
"Brother Mu, turn left to bypass the planet's gravity zone." He spoke quickly. Mu Baixing pulled the control stick, and even at high speed, the starship's direction change remained smooth and stable.
Rose sat in the passenger cabin that had been converted from the rear cargo hold, holding onto the simple fixings and looking out the porthole.
The flames from the moths that hit the light shield illuminated the surrounding scenery, allowing her to see the scenery being thrown backwards at high speed.
The starship slid through the arc and bypassed the planet that was surrounded by black tide energy and looked like a ball of irregular black mold.
"These two are no ordinary people." Rose muttered to herself, looking out the window. "They can steer the starship so smoothly despite the impact of the black tide's energy. Could it be that our luck has indeed changed?"
Vita sat beside her, pressing her face against the narrow transparent metal glass of the porthole and looking out. She nodded in agreement and prayed, "I hope I don't run into you..."
A slight tremor from the starship, mixed with a low sound caused by the increased energy in the gun barrel, interrupted his words.
Inside the cab, Ming Yu pulled down the gun barrel control screen in front of him and breathlessly said, "Brother Mu, there's a big guy coming from behind."
